Chapter 294: Picked Up a Patient (Added because the Alliance Leader saw my master)
People came and went in the Emergency Department corridor; Ji Xiang had heard Meng Qingfei say that as soon as one stepped into the corridor, their heart rate would accelerate and their whole body would feel uncomfortable.
But Ji Xiang didn't have this feeling; instead, he felt a bit eager to give it a try.
He was still a green rookie who hadn't rotated through the Emergency Department yet, so he completely failed to understand the implication in Meng Qingfei's words.
The joys and sorrows of the human world are not necessarily shared.
Although it was already quite late, the entrance to the Emergency Surgery was packed with patients.
Meng Qingfei's voice came out in bursts, suppressing the noisy sounds of patients and Family Members, carrying a sense of authority.
Speaking loudly doesn't necessarily mean one is in the right, but it certainly can suppress many people. Moreover, Family Members wouldn't reply with "Don't yell at me."
Ji Xiang poked his head out, "Meng Laoshi."
Seeing Ji Xiang, Meng Qingfei didn't waste words and tossed the keys to him.
Ji Xiang opened Meng Qingfei's locker, changed into a White Uniform, and came to help.
He squatted in the Treatment Room; any simple procedures that required suturing, stitch removal, or dressing changes fell to Ji Xiang, and the backlog of patients quickly decreased.
After a full hour and a half, once all the patients had been treated, Meng Qingfei finally called Ji Xiang in to catch his breath.
"Xiao Ji, thank goodness for you, otherwise I would have been worked to death." Meng Qingfei was much more polite to Ji Xiang now; he had long since stopped treating this young man as a rookie or a novice.
The diagnostic process of that patient a while back—who looked exactly like they were being pressed by a ghost but was actually infected with Tetanus Bacillus—was enough to explain everything.
"There seem to be an extraordinary number of patients today; can't even the Town-Department Treasure suppress them during your shift?" Ji Xiang didn't stand on ceremony and spoke his mind.
"Who knows, the Emergency Department is just like this." Meng Qingfei seemed to remember something, suddenly stood up, and said, "Right, I forgot to feed that little ancestor."
As he spoke, he slapped his own head hard.
Ji Xiang was speechless.
Meng Qingfei was talking about the turtle kept at the Nurses' Station, which was said to be the Town-Department Divine Artifact of the Emergency Department.
Although he had heard the 120 nurse mention it while in Empathy, the Second Affiliated Hospital Emergency Department really did have such a turtle.
Seeing Ji Xiang's expression, Meng Qingfei laughed, "You'll get used to it, you'll get used to it. You have to do something on an emergency shift, otherwise, you won't feel at ease."
As he spoke, he strode out of the Consultation Room.
Ji Xiang followed behind Meng Qingfei, very curious about what good things Meng Qingfei was planning to feed that "little ancestor."
But Meng Qingfei's pace gradually slowed down by a few degrees, and he walked slower and slower.
"Meng Laoshi, what's wrong?" Ji Xiang asked.
Meng Qingfei turned back with a cautious look on his face.
In the corner of the waiting area in the distance, an elderly man with white hair was sitting on a chair, snoring as he leaned back.
It didn't look like anything strange, but this was a hospital; for a white-haired Old Man to fall asleep while waiting to see a doctor, Ji Xiang scratched his head.
Meng Qingfei, however, was a bit nervous, his brows furrowed as he stopped in his tracks.
"Meng Laoshi?" Ji Xiang was puzzled.
"Let's go take a look." Meng Qingfei turned and walked over.
It was indeed a bit strange, Ji Xiang knew that too.
But the patient was snoring loudly; one could tell at a glance that his vital signs were stable, and Meng Qingfei's actions seemed somewhat redundant.
"Old Man, Old Man." Meng Qingfei walked to the Old Man's side and patted him firmly, "The stop is here! The stop is here! Wake up."
Ji Xiang didn't know where this joke came from, but the Old Man suddenly opened his eyes and looked around.
He moved with Agility, not looking like he was ill.
"Are you here to see a doctor or to accompany someone, how did you fall asleep?" Meng Qingfei asked, "Our Emergency Department has cold drafts, be careful not to catch a cold."
"I'm here to see a doctor, there were too many people, and I fell asleep by accident." The Old Man yawned, looking a bit listless.
But both his speech and demeanor were very healthy; he didn't look like a patient.
"Did you suffer an external injury? What are you seeing the doctor for?" Meng Qingfei asked.
"I don't know if it's an external injury, but the color of my urine has been a bit off lately, it's dark."
Meng Qingfei was startled, his nervous mood instantly exploding; Ji Xiang, standing beside him, noticed it immediately.
"Old Man, come to my Consultation Room." Meng Qingfei beckoned.
The Old Man stood up, patted his pants, and followed Meng Qingfei to the Consultation Room.
Ji Xiang observed carefully; the patient walked normally too. Was it just that the color of his urine was darker? What kind of illness was this?
Dark urine color really was within the scope of the Department of Nephrology and Urology Department; Ji Xiang knew a little bit about it.
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome; urinary tract infections, stones, and Tumor could all potentially lead to such a situation.
Could it be a Tumor?
Ji Xiang followed along and heard Meng Qingfei ask, "Old Man, what kind of ailments do you usually have? Is your blood pressure high?"
"Nothing much, my blood pressure and ECG are normal, I get a physical exam every year, my body is sturdy." The Old Man said, "It's just that my sleep isn't very good, I've been taking Estazolam orally for over ten years."
"Sleep isn't good? I think you sleep quite well." Meng Qingfei brought the Old Man into the Consultation Room and began the consultation bit by bit.
Having just picked up a patient and forgotten to feed the "little ancestor" of the Emergency Department, Ji Xiang's first instinct was that the patient must have a major problem.
However, Meng Qingfei asked questions for five minutes; the consultation was extremely detailed, and the patient's description was also very meticulous, but Ji Xiang didn't hear any problems.
"Get a urine test." Meng Qingfei wrote out the lab order, "Old Man, where is your family?"
"My home is nearby, I just went for a stroll after eating and stopped by to take a look. I reckon I've just been a bit 'fired up' these past few days, nothing major."
"Leave a contact person." Meng Qingfei said very flatly.
"Why leave a contact person?" The Old Man asked vigilantly.
Meng Qingfei turned the computer screen at an angle to face the Old Man, "The damn hospital forces us to fill it out, otherwise we can't print the lab order if we don't write it. A bunch of procedures, the bureaucracy is just not human, they only know how to add trouble to Clinical work and don't do a single useful thing."
He cursed very directly, using "plain" language to explain the Old Man's question.
The Old Man took a look, confirmed Meng Qingfei's words, and then provided a name and phone number.
Ji Xiang watched this scene silently; there was indeed a blank space for an emergency contact in the computer system, but it was basically always ignored, and no doctor would go out of their way to fill out such a thing.
Anything abnormal must have a hidden reason; Meng Qingfei's actions had almost clearly told Ji Xiang that the patient before them must have a major issue.
Could it be a Tumor? Ji Xiang felt a sense of doubt.
But the old man said he had a physical examination once a year, and the results were always fine; how did Meng Laoshi, Meng Qingfei, determine it was a Tumor?
After the old man left, Ji Xiang asked, "Meng Laoshi..."
But Meng Qingfei did not pay attention to Ji Xiang; he took out his phone and dialed the number recorded in the system.
"Hello, hello, I am Doctor Meng Qingfei from the Second Affiliated Hospital Emergency Department."
Meng Qingfei had just said one sentence when the person on the other end acted as if they had seen a ghost, not saying a single word of nonsense and hanging up the phone directly.
"..."
Meng Qingfei stood there in a daze, holding the phone that was making a beeping sound.
