Chapter 297: Are You Even Capable?
"Professor Deng, say something, what do we do next? Should we continue the surgery or just leave it like this?" the Circulating Nurse asked.
Deng Chaohong hesitated repeatedly, then said in a low voice, "I'll go take a look, communicate with them; I suspect there's a problem somewhere."
After speaking, he turned and stepped down from the operating table.
The Circulating Nurse didn't speak, watching Deng Chaohong leave.
Once the operating room door closed, she sighed, "Lao Deng's luck is truly bad."
"A few years ago, someone used blood products to water flowers; have you seen that story?" the Anesthesia Doctor asked.
"I saw it. Ever since then, I haven't gone whenever the unit organizes voluntary blood donations. Later, there seemed to be an explanation, but I didn't believe it," the Circulating Nurse said with disdain.
"This time, I suspect it's... even if Lao Deng goes to ask, the blood station will definitely say an emergency Patient called for it. Who the hell knows where the blood went," the Anesthesia Doctor cursed.
"It has nothing to do with us," the Circulating Nurse said. "Say less."
"I just can't stand it," the Anesthesia Doctor grumbled, unable to let it go. "The Family Member went to do directed donation, but when it came time to use it, there wasn't any. Isn't this just screwing people over?"
"Sigh," the Circulating Nurse sighed, sitting on a chair in the corner, her eyes unfocused, staring blankly at the Anesthesia Machine.
Zhao Tianjiao asked naively, "Liu Jie, wasn't it a directed donation? How could it just disappear?"
"Who knows."
The Circulating Nurse knew Zhao Tianjiao was the son of Zhao Yuanzhang, so she kept certain things to herself; loose lips sink ships.
The operating room was very quiet; Deng Chaohong had accidentally brushed against a Scalpel on the side, which was stained with blood, and the light from the shadowless lamp flickered dimly within the bloodstain.
Ten minutes passed before Deng Chaohong walked back in.
"Lao Deng, what do we do?"
"How should I know!" Deng Chaohong said irritably.
"You are the surgeon; if you don't know, who would?" The Circulating Nurse's sharp temper flared, and she almost pointed at Deng Chaohong's nose to start scolding him.
This was still being polite; if Deng Chaohong dared to talk back, there were countless nasty things waiting for him.
"Calm down, calm down," the Anesthesia Doctor advised. "Professor Deng, are we still doing the surgery?"
"The Family Member went to find the blood station; we're waiting for news," Deng Chaohong said dejectedly.
"Damn it!" the Anesthesia Doctor cursed under his breath.
If the Patient couldn't be brought down, he would have to keep the Patient under anesthesia the whole time; if it took too long, there would definitely be a problem.
When one link fails, all links become difficult to manage; the Anesthesia Doctor was already mentally stabbing the people at the blood station with silver needles until they were riddled with holes.
"Lao Deng, can you actually do this or not?" the Circulating Nurse asked.
"I don't know either. I confirmed it before I went on stage, and they changed their tune in two hours," Deng Chaohong said bitterly. "Who knows what happened, who knows what to do."
"Let's wait."
The operating room fell silent, with everyone thinking about different things in their hearts.
After more than ten minutes, Deng Chaohong's phone rang.
"Sun Yuanzhang, it's me."
"The surgery... no problem, the amount of blood loss during the procedure is uncertain. 5,000 milliliters is already the limit of performance; there's no other way," Deng Chaohong insisted, despite the Dean's questioning. "A while ago, Professor Qian did one and transfused 6,000 milliliters of blood. 5,000 milliliters is truly the limit."
"Alright, then I'll wait a bit longer."
After hanging up, the Anesthesia Doctor asked curiously, "What, it reached the Dean so quickly?"
"The Family Member is upset and wants to smash the blood station; they've also contacted reporters and big influencers on social media. They say it's already spreading online, and the hospital is getting a headache," Deng Chaohong said with a sigh.
This matter was becoming more and more troublesome.
Although he had done everything he could, if something went wrong in the end, the people on the Clinical front lines would definitely be thrown out as scapegoats.
If he got roasted online by then, it would be a disaster; he hadn't done anything, this was an unprovoked calamity.
Deng Chaohong pulled at his hair, strand by strand.
Sometimes he really didn't want to do this anymore; it was thankless work.
If he had known the blood station was this shitty, he definitely wouldn't have taken this surgery.
Damn it! Deng Chaohong cursed again.
"Did their family smash the blood station? No matter how you look at it, it's the blood station's fault. Smash it! Don't be a sucker!!" the Circulating Nurse said, not afraid of making things worse.
"It's almost becoming a mass..." the Anesthesia Doctor said half a sentence, then forcibly held back. "The leaders of the National Health Commission must have found our Dean. If it really kicks off, it won't look good for anyone. Let's just wait."
Deng Chaohong stared blankly at the Patient on the operating table.
A long time later, the operating room door opened, and Zhao Jixiang walked in.
"Professor Deng, how is it now?" Zhao Jixiang asked.
Deng Chaohong hurriedly stood up and explained the dilemma he was facing.
"There is no blood; they say there was a high-speed pile-up, and people are being resuscitated at the First Affiliated Hospital," Zhao Jixiang explained. "Sun Yuanzhang's meaning is for you to find a way to finish the surgery."
Deng Chaohong was about to explode; he was furious, but he forcibly suppressed it. To avoid showing his negative emotions, he could only lower his head.
His hands had unknowingly clenched into fists.
Highway car accident, who the hell knows if it's true or false! Deng Chaohong was filled with resentment.
Either way, the blood he needed was insufficient, yet he was still expected to perform the surgery; if something went wrong in the end, it would all be his fault.
"Professor Deng, that is Sun Yuanzhang's meaning. What do you think?" Zhao Jixiang said indifferently.
Deng Chaohong had originally hoped Zhao Jixiang would help him say something, but his stance was clear; he wasn't planning to help, "strictly neutral."
"Zhao Yuanzhang, you know how many branches the Lumbar Transverse Artery has; there will definitely be massive bleeding when it's surgically excised," Deng Chaohong explained, biting the bullet.
"Professor Deng, come with me."
Zhao Jixiang turned with his hands behind his back and left the Operating Room.
Seeing Deng Chaohong follow him out, the Circulating Nurse was curious and leaned over to the Anesthesia Doctor to ask, "Lao Qu, what's going on?"
"It might be because the province is holding a meeting soon, and there can't be any chaos," the Anesthesia Doctor said vaguely.
The Circulating Nurse understood in a second and walked away helplessly.
Very quickly, the operating room door opened, and Zhao Jixiang and Deng Chaohong walked in.
"The blood bank is actively coordinating a blood supply; it should be fine. Go tell the Family Member, then hurry up and get it done."
"Understood, Zhao Yuanzhang."
Deng Chaohong gave Zhao Jixiang a deep look, then put on a surgical gown and went out to communicate with the Family Member.
The Anesthesia Doctor felt very helpless; he knew this was the sorrow of frontline personnel.
Although there were all sorts of grievances, there was nothing that could be done.
Another 20 minutes passed, and Deng Chaohong returned; the person who came in with him was not Zhao Yuanzhang, but Bai Chuzhang.
Bai Chuzhang's expression was very calm; after entering, he stood in the corner and did not say a single extra word.
"Bai Chuzhang, you've come." The Anesthesia Doctor hurriedly greeted him.
"Mm." Bai Chuzhang nodded.
"Can the blood really be coordinated?" the Anesthesia Doctor asked.
Bai Chuzhang looked at him with the gaze one would use for a fool, making the Anesthesia Doctor feel somewhat ashamed.
