Chapter 507: Not a Gimmick, Yet Full of Gimmicks

~7 min read 1,316 words

Fan Dao remained outside the operating room, carefully observing every family member of the patients.

The program had been elevated too high all at once, and this was also a source of worry. If it flopped, perhaps there wouldn't be so much to think about, Fan Dao pondered to himself while observing the family members.

After a while, Fan Dao saw Yang Zhuren walk out, holding a piece of white Gauze in his hand, and he called over a middle-aged couple in their forties.

While speaking, Yang Zhuren showed them the "culprit" removed from the Gauze, and told them the staple had been removed; the Patient was likely fine and could be discharged to go home after 1-2 more days of observation.

A few seconds later, the couple embraced, sobbing uncontrollably.

The man turned slightly, gripping Yang Zhuren's other hand tightly; his hand was shaking violently, and he kept patting the woman's back, as if comforting her that everything was over.

Should the next step be wiping snot on Yang Zhuren's clothes? A strange thought suddenly flashed through Fan Dao's mind.

After saying a few words, Yang Zhuren wanted to go back, but his hand was held tightly by the man, who wouldn't let go no matter what was said.

Finally, Yang Zhuren made a gesture to kick him; Fan Dao guessed they must be good friends to be so casual.

"Xiao Liang, you saw that couple, right?" Fan Dao said.

Fan Dao's assistant nodded.

"I'm giving you a task. Once Yang Zhuren goes back, go persuade them to accept an interview," Fan Dao whispered. "No matter what method you use, no matter how much it costs, as long as they agree to an interview, it's fine."

"Okay."

Fan Dao's assistant said, biting the bullet.

Once Yang Zhuren turned and returned to the operating room, Fan Dao's assistant immediately approached them.

Fan Dao felt a bit nervous; although he didn't know what kind of patient it was, nor what surgery had been performed in the operating room, he could guess it would be very exciting.

A surgery that the directors at Hang Yi Da Yi Fu Yuan couldn't solve, yet they ended up finding an Intern to perform it—just the thought of this made Fan Dao incredibly excited.

Although this thought couldn't be stated explicitly, expressing it in the program through dramatic language was feasible, and it would be quite exciting and gripping.

The fourth episode of the program seemed to have some leads, but only a little; Fan Dao couldn't grasp the thought that had flashed through his mind.

Yet this wonderful idea encountered a setback right at the beginning, being punctured directly.

Fan Dao's assistant walked up to the couple and started saying something to them. But the couple seemed very uncooperative; they kept shaking their heads, and by the end, the man seemed very angry, pointing his finger at Fan Dao's assistant, likely cursing something.

This... Fan Dao felt particularly helpless.

He felt that his luck had reached its peak and was now suffering a backlash.

Ever since the number of concurrent viewers for the third episode exploded, he hadn't had any ideas.

Now that he finally had a bit of an idea, seeing his assistant get the cold shoulder and nearly cause a scene, Fan Dao hurriedly had someone pull the assistant back.

"Director, they were just too much!" Fan Dao's assistant said angrily after returning.

"The family didn't agree? You didn't tell them it wouldn't involve privacy, that it was just..."

"Director, I said it, but before I could finish, they shook their heads; no matter what I said, it wouldn't work."

Fan Dao glared fiercely at his assistant—useless thing.

But Fan Dao only muttered this to himself; he knew very well that this was an extremely difficult task to begin with.

Not everyone is interested in being on a variety show, especially when a father and mother are waiting outside the operating room for their child to be wheeled out.

Although it looked like the surgery had been successful, they might not necessarily be willing.

Fan Dao was worried; after a while, he saw the flatbed cart being pushed out, with Ji Xiang pushing it from behind, looking exactly like a young Doctor who had just entered Clinical practice and was doing the most basic work. Honest, silent, yet incredibly focused, as if pushing the Patient back to the ward was something worth being proud of.

He didn't follow behind Ji Xiang to record the Patient's situation.

After spending some time in contact with hospitals, Doctors, and Patients, Fan Dao could grasp the bottom line. If he followed them at this moment, he would likely be rejected by the Doctors and the directors.

Everyone was a decent person; why insist on making things so unpleasant?

But what to do next? This was written all over Fan Dao's face, visible to the naked eye.

"Director, what now?" Fan Dao's assistant asked after watching Ji Xiang push the flatbed cart onto the elevator.

"How would I know?" Fan Dao said irritably.

Seeing that Fan Dao was in a bad mood, his assistant immediately shut his mouth, not daring to say a single word of nonsense.

Fan Dao didn't leave either, just stood in front of the operating room door, agonizing over what to do next.

That Lu Zhuren in Ji Xiang's medical team had also offered a few opinions, but his opinions were clearly very different from Ji Xiang's—completely unfeasible.

Fan Dao didn't know how long he had been thinking when a familiar voice suddenly reached his ears.

"Fan Dao, what are you busy with?"

It was Zhao Zhe, another member of Ji Xiang's medical team, an old Attending Physician with a subservient look.

"Doctor Zhao, you've changed out of your scrubs." Fan Dao forced a smile. "I'm just pondering what to film for the next episode. A patient just had surgery, and I saw Doctor Xiao Ji go into the operating room..."

As he spoke, his eyes had already caught sight of Li Zhuren.

"Li Zhuren, you watched the last episode, right?" Fan Dao's smile became a bit more sincere. "The surgery and the animation parts were quite exciting."

"I watched it, it was excellent. Fan Dao, you truly live up to your reputation as a nationally renowned director." Li Zhuren said politely.

Fan Dao of course knew Li Zhuren was just engaging in mutual commercial flattery. He was indeed a well-known director in the industry, but a variety show director is different from a film director; he was only well-known within the industry, definitely not to the point of being nationally famous.

But that didn't matter.

Fan Dao heard a clue in Li Zhuren's tone.

"What kind of Patient was it just now?" Fan Dao asked tentatively.

"It was a..." Li Zhuren began to enthusiastically introduce the Patient's condition to Fan Dao.

When Fan Dao heard that a staple had fallen into the Right Main Bronchus, his heart suddenly began to itch.

What was this?

This was something ordinary people, the audience, would never dream of, yet it was a situation that could be encountered with a very low probability.

Moreover, this matter was full of gossip appeal, similar to the cases with one sensational title after another from CCTV's "Approaching Science" back in the day.

Unlike the sensational and comedic style of "Approaching Science," what was before him was a real, thrilling, living medical case!

It wasn't a gimmick, yet it was full of gimmicks; Fan Dao suddenly understood the thought that had just flashed through his mind.

"So that's how it is. It seems Interventional Surgery is truly quite practical. If not for Interventional Surgery, the Patient would have to undergo major surgery. I have a friend who underwent major surgery and damaged their vitality."

While pondering this, Fan Dao heaped praise upon Li Zhuren.
