Chapter 518: A Real-Life Version of
Ji Xiang's spirit stirred; he poked his head in to see what was happening.
Zhai Yuhan sat before the computer, reviewing images while on the phone, though it was unclear who she was communicating with or about what.
Ji Xiang recalled what Zhai Yuhan had just said; feeling a bit strange, he turned and walked quickly to change his clothes.
Arriving at the Doctor's Office, he stood behind Zhai Yuhan and caught a glimpse of a strange set of imaging data.
Zhai Yuhan was using a dual-view screen, both showing abdominal CT scans, and both featured a round, stark-white, large Tumor on the images.
The Tumor should be the same one,
Probably,
Ji Xiang wasn't sure either.
Judging by size and density, they were identical; Ji Xiang could be highly certain of this.
Yet the difference was that the Tumor in the left image was at the lower edge of the liver, right next to the Gallbladder; the Tumor in the right image was in the lower abdomen, near the colon, slightly compressing it.
This was too similar; Ji Xiang focused his gaze on the two Tumors, comparing their size and density once more.
Soon, he was astonished to confirm that these two Tumors must be the same one!
Twins? A thought flashed through Ji Xiang's mind, but he immediately dismissed it.
"Huh? It looks very similar," Zhao Zhe also said, surprised.
"You're here," Zhai Yuhan covered the phone and turned back to greet them, even offering a slight smile to show goodwill.
"Teacher Zhai, what kind of Patient is this?" Ji Xiang asked.
"Male Patient, 78 years old, admitted due to 'abdominal pain and distension for 3 years, aggravated for 1 month.' For 3 years, the Patient had intermittent abdominal pain, distension, and constipation without obvious triggers; the pain and distension would subside after defecation, and the Patient had not undergone any examinations or treatment. One month ago, the constipation worsened, accompanied by urinary frequency and urgency."
Zhai Yuhan recited the Patient's current medical history as if reading from the computer, almost word for word; Zhao Zhe was very impressed.
If it were copy-pasting, he could do it too, but to be able to recite it fluently after just one look, he certainly couldn't.
Inadvertently, Zhai Yuhan revealed the difference between herself and doctors at grassroots hospitals.
Zhao Zhe knew very well what kind of caliber doctors who could stay at high-level, large Grade A Tertiary Hospitals possessed; the idea that gold will always shine is extremely rare.
If it were gold, it would have been picked up long ago, and Zhao Zhe never considered himself gold.
"Are there any other examinations?" Ji Xiang asked.
"There was an Ultrasound before admission, suggesting a pelvic mass."
Pelvic?
Pelvic!
Neither Ji Xiang nor Zhao Zhe believed it was a slip of the tongue by Zhai Yuhan.
The two round, stark-white Tumors in different locations before their eyes explained the problem.
There was a third location!
Could the Tumor have grown a long pedicle? Zhao Zhe looked at the films carefully but saw no sign of a pedicle at all.
"Doctor Xiao Ji, tell me your thoughts," Zhai Yuhan frowned and asked in a low voice.
"Surgery," Ji Xiang said, "Cannot do laparoscopy; perform open surgery to remove the Tumor completely. It is highly likely benign, no need to be nervous."
"I didn't ask how to treat it, I asked..." Zhai Yuhan said, then she herself froze.
How should she ask?
Zhai Yuhan was momentarily speechless.
She had never seen a similar situation; she didn't even know what to ask.
The Tumor had no pedicle; it could be seen very clearly from different angles on the CT. But that was exactly the problem!
How could a round, stark-white, 8cm-diameter Tumor with no pedicle appear out of thin air inside a body?
Magic?
Generally speaking, tumor growth requires a blood supply and participation in human metabolism; whether it is a benign or Malignant Tumor, growth requires nutrients.
To have an 8cm Tumor inexplicably rolling around in the abdominal cavity, this thing... anyone with a shred of scientific Spirit wouldn't think that way.
So, Zhai Yuhan started her question, then fell silent.
"Xiao Zhai, looking at the films?"
Yang Zhuren walked in while putting on his White Uniform and asked.
"Boss, you're here," Zhai Yuhan stood up, "Please take a look."
Yang Zhuren didn't say much else; he sat down and looked at the films seriously.
Occasionally, an Attending Professor would come in to take a look, but they would only glance casually at first, then their eyes would land on the dual-view imaging data and couldn't move away.
It was as if there was superglue on those two films, firmly sticking their gazes onto them.
Yang Zhuren remained silent for a long time, comparing the Tumors on the images, using a scale to measure them, and then finding the Medical Record from the Gastrointestinal Surgery department to read it almost word for word.
The Head Nurse came in, just about to organize the shift handover, when she was blocked by an Attending Professor.
"The Director is reviewing films."
"What films? Should we do the handover first?" the Head Nurse asked tentatively.
"Very strange films; maybe we should skip the handover this morning."
The Head Nurse was startled; the department handover was set in stone, how could they skip it? Besides, the Camera Crew was also standing at the door; Fan Dao was following the rules, staying in the corner with his people, as they had an appointment today to film a few shots of the shift handover.
"What's going on?" The Head Nurse's eyes glanced toward Fan Dao.
But the Attending Professor didn't care about the Head Nurse's hint regarding Fan Dao; his eyes were fixed on the screen, frowning as he whispered, "There is a Patient in Gastrointestinal; they had three examinations, and the location of the Tumor moved three times."
"What?!" The Head Nurse was stunned.
"The emergency examination was in the pelvis; the first CT after admission was at the lower edge of the liver next to the Gallbladder; the second follow-up was in the colon area."
"!!!"
"It's bizarre, and I don't see a pedicle on the Tumor; otherwise, with such a large range of movement, it would have likely undergone pedicle torsion and necrosis long ago."
"No pedicle, is the Tumor drawing nutrients through siphonage?" the Head Nurse asked in a low, scornful voice.
Her tone was full of disdain, not even bothering to hide it, and she was nearly on the verge of cursing.
"I find it strange too; logically, that shouldn't be the case," the Attending Professor said.
"Zhao Yisheng, Zhao Yisheng." Upon hearing the words of the Head Nurse and the Attending Professor, Fan Dao felt a stir in his heart and beckoned to Zhao Zhe.
Zhao Zhe had already been "squeezed" out of the crowd.
He was not unhappy; he had seen what he needed to see, so Zhao Zhe walked over to Fan Dao's side.
"Zhao Yisheng, what kind of Patient is Yang Zhuren looking at?"
Zhao Zhe described it once; his description was not much different from the Attending Professor's, basically the same.
"The problem is that a Tumor cannot grow out of thin air, yet the imaging clearly shows no blood vessels, nerves, or connective tissue connected to the Tumor," Zhao Zhe frowned, "This is a very strange case."
Fan Dao did not quite understand, but his eyes were shining.
He had taken a shortcut with the foreign object in the respiratory tract and made one episode about it, but as for what followed, he only had a vague idea and had no clue how to proceed.
However, there was truly a lot of material in the hospital; hearing the descriptions from Zhao Zhe and the Attending Professor, Fan Dao began to get excited.
Isn't this also a gimmick!
*Approaching Science* was able to be popular for so many years by relying on pure deception, but these things encountered in the hospital were all facts.
Except for the Doctors guarding against him as if he were a thief, there were almost no downsides.
