Chapter 527: Dealing with a Thorny Patient
"Xiao Ji is here!" Liu Zhuren suddenly became excited.
"His coming is of no damn use," Bai Chuzhang cursed. "The Affiliated Hospital is just making things difficult for people; I don't know if it's the production team's arrangement or the hospital's. With just this chief complaint, what kind of diagnosis can you give? Never mind Ji Xiang, even if you brought in a big shot of diagnostics, it would be useless."
"Just check, start with a head CT," Liu Zhuren said with a beaming smile, his heart full of joy the moment he saw Ji Xiang.
"Heh." Bai Chuzhang sneered, clearly not agreeing with Liu Zhuren's words.
"Hello," Ji Xiang smiled.
In an instant, Liu Zhuren and Bai Chuzhang vaguely had an illusion that the Consultation Room was filled with fresh flowers, all blooming at the same time.
"Hello, Doctor." The woman was also slightly startled, the expression on her face softening a little; she was not as serious, sharp, and murderous as she had been when facing Zhao Mengmeng.
"May I ask where you are feeling uncomfortable?"
The woman stated her symptoms just as she had before.
Although the words were the same, the tone was different, and the content expressed was also different.
The more Liu Zhuren watched, the happier he smiled.
They say good looks are justice; Ji Xiang took advantage of this aspect alone quite a bit.
"Oh, these are symptoms of the Neurology Department. I will help you contact an Expert from the Neurology Department for a consultation. Please wait a moment, let me see who is on duty today, and I will take you there in a while," Ji Xiang said with a smile.
"Slap!" Liu Zhuren patted the table. "Look, look, I told you Xiao Ji is awesome!"
Bai Chuzhang smiled slightly, noncommittal.
Ji Xiang was indeed impressive; the subtlety of it could only be understood, not described in words.
He did not look like a Standardized Training Student or an Intern at all, but rather like an old Attending Physician who had been working in Clinical practice for over a decade.
"Doctor, I have other things to do, and registering is very troublesome; the lines are very long. Just take a look for me and prescribe some medicine, and I'll go back," the female "Patient" began to increase the difficulty for Ji Xiang.
Good looks can indeed lower difficulty, but it is limited after all.
"No need to register; I will transfer your registration directly to the Neurology Department on the computer," Ji Xiang said.
"There are too many people over there, and there's no one here. Just help me take a look and prescribe some medicine, and I'll go back."
The woman pressed on step by step.
"Alright then."
Ji Xiang was also helpless, but the smile on his face and the tone of his voice did not change in the slightest; he was incredibly professional.
"Damn it!" Liu Zhuren cursed. "Find whichever boss from their Affiliated Hospital is behind this; I don't believe any of them could figure out the Patient's illness. Shameless! Damn it!!"
"The production team deliberately looked for a gimmick. If they let Xiao Ji pass easily, it seems it wouldn't be good," Bai Chuzhang shook his head, also feeling somewhat annoyed.
Ji Xiang's handling had already reached the limit; even if Liu Zhuren and Bai Chuzhang were swapped into that seat, they could still only say the same thing.
This was the best course of action, bar none.
But that woman was clearly a Patient played by someone from the Nursing Department of the Affiliated Hospital, so she firmly refused to transfer to another Outpatient Department and even put on a posture of wanting to cause trouble.
However, having said that, similar Patients are not uncommon, and Bai Chuzhang did not feel it was too excessive for the people at the Affiliated Hospital to make things so difficult for Ji Xiang.
"How long have you been experiencing generalized weakness, headaches, and memory loss?" Seeing that he couldn't chase the Patient away, Ji Xiang had to start asking questions.
"3 or 4 months."
"Has there been anything irregular in your life recently?"
"No, I exercise every day, my work isn't busy, I sleep around ten o'clock, and I sleep 8 hours every day. I even go for a morning run after waking up..."
"I also go for a morning run," Ji Xiang finally found a common point. "I wake up at 4:30 every day and run a half-marathon."
"Ah? You run a half-marathon first thing in the morning, and you still have the energy to work?" the woman asked in surprise.
"I do. When I'm not working on weekends, I basically run a full marathon. But recently, I've been raising a dog at home; it can't keep up with my pace, so I have to settle for a half-marathon. Sometimes it plays lazy and won't run, and I have to carry the little guy home on my back."
"Running is good; no wonder you look so energetic," the woman laughed.
Unknowingly, the topic had been led astray.
"Yes, although running often can hurt the knees a bit, it can burn a large amount of calories and..."
Ji Xiang spoke incessantly.
The smile on Liu Zhuren's face could no longer be contained; he was smiling like a flower.
Bai Chuzhang also raised the corners of his mouth; Ji Xiang was more capable than he had imagined.
That a thorny, extremely self-centered Patient could actually find a common topic—this point alone proved Ji Xiang's maturity.
Next, he would definitely still have to send the Patient to the Neurology Department; familiarity, lack of familiarity, whether there are common topics, and the level of favorability can determine whether this matter is feasible or not.
Although a Doctor absolutely does not have this much time to deal with a thorny Patient when seeing patients in the Outpatient Department, this was, after all, a variety show, and it also tested Ji Xiang's on-the-spot adaptability.
Perfect!
Zhao Tianjiao watched, dumbfounded.
"What is Ji Xiang doing?" Zhao Tianjiao asked.
"Chatting with the Patient, closing the emotional distance, and increasing favorability," Zhao Yuanzhang explained indifferently.
Seeing his son's ignorant and green face, and then looking at Ji Xiang with a glowing smile on his face, mature to an incredible degree, Zhao Yuanzhang felt a bit awkward inside.
Ji Xiang was truly strong; even some old Attending Physicians and Attending Professors couldn't handle similar Patients well.
Yet he had resolved it in a short time and was chatting and laughing with the Patient.
Encountering a similar Patient in Clinical practice, it could be said that Ji Xiang had a high probability of passing.
This was not something that could be achieved just by having talent, or rather, Ji Xiang's talent was not just in Tying Knots, surgery, or diagnosis.
Ji Xiang's emotional intelligence was also of the incredibly high kind.
Zhao Yuanzhang watched the woman pretending to be a Patient on the television chatting happily with Ji Xiang, and felt strange in his heart.
If Zhao Tianjiao could reach the height of Ji Xiang's ability to handle Patients in his lifetime, that would be great; he could retire peacefully without worrying about anything.
Even with this, even if the Patient were holding a knife, Zhao Yuanzhang was certain that Ji Xiang could make them put the knife down and drink and chat together.
"Dad, this is simply impossible," Zhao Tianjiao curled his lip. "The Outpatient Department sees over a hundred patients a day; where would there be time to waste on a single patient?"
Dean Zhao let out a sigh and explained, "What if it were an inpatient? What if it were an inpatient who might cause a Medical Dispute?"
"..."
"Ji Xiang's way of handling problems is very seasoned; you should learn from him."
Although Zhao Tianjiao was unhappy, he still bit the bullet and nodded.
On the program, Ji Xiang chatted with the woman for nearly 3 minutes and said with a smile, "I estimate it's nothing major, and this isn't a specialty department either. How about I take you to the Neurology Department and have an Expert in Neurology prescribe you some medicine?"
When the words reached this point, the woman was just about to say "Okay," but she suddenly snapped out of it as if waking from a dream.
She frowned slightly, looking somewhat surprised.
How had she been led astray by Ji Xiang?!
Embarrassed and angry, the smile on the woman's face vanished; she turned hostile faster than flipping a book, her face changing as quickly as it did when she usually scolded the Nurse.
"Doctor, my time is limited. If you really can't figure it out, I won't force you. How about you just prescribe me some medicine to calm the nerves and nourish the brain?"
