Chapter 542: Unexpected Events
"How detestable!" Fan Dao's assistant echoed.
"Sigh." Fan Dao let out a sigh; he didn't know what to say either.
Fan Dao understood the Patient's situation to some extent; it was excellent material. But the good material in his eyes turned into something else in the eyes of the Doctors—it became a forbidden zone that could not be crossed by even a single step.
Whether it was Yang Zhuren or Ji Xiang, both vehemently rejected Fan Dao's ideas and provided absolutely no cooperation.
This bunch of people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Fan Dao thought to himself.
"Director, what should we do next? That day Lu Zhuren said we should get close to Clinical work and look for opportunities, but we are following Ji Xiang closely, yet we can't use perfectly good material."
"Keep following. Have the Camera Crew on standby at all times. Every Intern Doctor... mainly Ji Xiang, must be followed. Work in three shifts. I don't believe there won't be any suitable content."
Fan Dao steeled his heart.
As for whether it would work, that depended on fate.
"But the time..." Fan Dao's assistant reminded him.
This sentence drew a fierce glare from Fan Dao.
Time is limited; everyone knew this. No one could guarantee whether suitable material could be collected within the limited time.
It wasn't enough for the material to be suitable; the Doctor, the Patient, and the Family Member all had to agree.
At the thought of this, Fan Dao's head felt like it was splitting.
Originally scheduled for 1-2 episodes per week, it was now impossible to complete. At the very least, the latest episode would have to be delayed; there was simply no way to output content intensively while ensuring quality.
What a pity, with such high popularity.
The website was also pressing hard; it was said that because of this variety show, the number of members on the website had seen a small increase.
Fan Dao put aside his sorrowful thoughts and steeled his heart to arrange for people to follow Ji Xiang.
He didn't believe he couldn't find a bit of material.
Two days passed. Ji Xiang just wrote Medical Records and saw Patients in the department, acting like a standard Intern.
The other Interns were cooperative and recorded some data, but Fan Dao was not satisfied at all.
He had already built the atmosphere up to a point; he could only allow for one dull episode at most. He only had one episode's worth of breathing room.
And that was at most. Fan Dao didn't want to see the show he had painstakingly managed, which had already reached a national level, fall apart due to various factors.
If he could make every episode exciting, that would be best.
But the life of a normal Doctor was monotonous and boring to the extreme; the various grand waves Fan Dao had imagined simply didn't happen.
Yet Ji Xiang was happy to endure this boredom, working happily every day, writing Medical Records, and following along to act as an assistant in surgery, without the slightest awareness of being the pillar of a national-level show.
Because Ji Xiang looked very naive, Fan Dao had spoken to him twice, but he encountered a soft rejection; Ji Xiang simply ignored him.
Fan Dao was so worried he was pulling his hair out strand by strand.
The show had already been delayed once, changing from two episodes a week to one, but the extension of time only caused strong dissatisfaction among the audience and did not give Fan Dao any good ideas.
He was so worried he looked as if he had aged several decades overnight.
He had spent his whole life dreaming of making a national-level reality show, but just as he had one foot inside the hall, he was stuck here.
Fan Dao was unwilling, but being unwilling was useless.
During the day, Fan Dao followed Ji Xiang, not letting go of any potential material.
But!
The dull and uninteresting life truly had no material. Although Fan Dao knew this was the essence of life and the essence of the medical industry, he was just very unhappy.
His waist and back were sore from standing these past few days; in Ji Xiang's joking words from the other day, he was afraid he would develop Great Saphenous Vein varicose veins from all the standing.
Fan Dao stood outside the entrance of the ward, trying hard to put on a smile.
"Doctor Xiao Ji, where are you going?" Fan Dao greeted.
He really couldn't understand why Ji Xiang was happy to endure such a mediocre life.
In Fan Dao's world, the things young people were interested in were fancy cars and beautiful women, or dashing horses and fine clothes; who would be willing to work like an ox or a horse?
"Accompanying Yang Zhuren to the Outpatient Department." Ji Xiang smiled. "Fan Dao, you still haven't figured out what to film? Keep trying."
"..." Fan Dao felt Ji Xiang was being sarcastic toward him.
Ji Xiang should have been very worried, but he acted as if it had nothing to do with him at all.
Damn it!
Fan Dao cursed in his heart, but his face was full of enthusiastic smiles. "Not yet. Perfect, I'll follow along to the Outpatient Department and take a look."
"Doctors are like this; most of what they treat are minor ailments. A classmate in my dorm went back to his hometown after graduation; he only knew how to perform Closed Thoracic Drainage, and he could work at their town hospital."
Fan Dao didn't know what Closed Thoracic Drainage was, and he didn't want to know.
"Fan Dao, you really are a good director, dedicated and attentive." Ji Xiang said while walking with Fan Dao. "My dad stays by the computer every day, day and night reversed. I think he's very bored, but he says he enjoys it."
"Heh heh." Fan Dao gave a dry laugh.
He was already so worried he was pulling his hair out strand by strand; he couldn't feel that sense of enjoyment at all.
"Fan Dao, don't worry." Ji Xiang followed behind Yang Zhuren, persuading Fan Dao as he walked.
"A few years ago, when I was still in school, there was a saying on the internet—'Why should the efforts of three generations of our family lose to your ten years of hard study?' At the time, I didn't understand, so I asked my dad. That time he was very serious; he drank and talked to me for a long time."
"Oh? What did your dad say?" Fan Dao asked listlessly.
His conversation with Ji Xiang definitely couldn't be edited into the show.
"My dad said a lot. I won't go into the various arguments, but what fits your situation is—everyone has their time of luck. For three generations not to fail, one needs great fortune."
"Ten years of hard study, if blessed with good timing, might not be worse than the efforts of three generations. So, fate is sometimes very magical."
"Our show is the same. As far as I know, it should be something Feng Yuqing messed up."
Fan Dao took a deep look at Ji Xiang.
Ji Xiang had no respect for Feng Yuqing; his tone when commenting on Feng Yuqing was like an adult talking about their own unruly child.
"However, our show has updated a few episodes, and the results are actually not bad. Honestly, these episodes had the cooperation of Li Zhuren from the Interventional Department; he wants to promote Interventional Surgery, which is also what I want to do. There is also some luck involved, having encountered a few cases suitable for the show."
"So let's not be in a rush."
Fan Dao sighed; it was easy to say, don't be in a rush, don't be in a rush, but he himself didn't want to be in a rush either. To slowly and leisurely turn a program into a national-level hit and become deified in the industry, how good that would be.
But the schedule was there, and he had recently been so anxious that he couldn't sleep well night after night.
Ji Xiang was just standing there talking without feeling the pain.
While speaking, the few of them walked into the Outpatient Department building; what met their eyes were hospital security guards maintaining order, and countless people looking up.
Fan Dao followed the gaze of the others and looked up, suddenly stunned.
A figure appeared outside the safety barrier on a very high floor; they had actually encountered an emergency of someone attempting to jump off the building.
