Chapter 645: Private Jet? I'm Not Taking It
"Xiao Ji, the show is over, why are you in such a rush to head back?" Zou Fuzhuren complained. "Is our hospital not as good as yours? Besides, you're just a Standardized Training Student, what could you possibly be so busy with? You're doing your training somewhere regardless. If you can't stay, just hang around for a few days, why the rush?"
"Teacher Zou, I still have some research work to do back home; it can't be delayed," Ji Xiang said respectfully.
"Sigh, what a pity." Zou Fuzhuren sighed and slurped up some saliva. "Come visit often when you have time. Oh right, you'll be attending the academic conference at the end of the year, right? Our Gastrointestinal Surgery department is hosting it in the Imperial Capital this year."
"I'm not sure, and my major isn't Gastrointestinal Surgery, so I probably won't be invited. But please rest assured, I will definitely come to visit you often."
Zou Fuzhuren felt a bit regretful; he looked at Ji Xiang with a strange expression, as if he were in a hurry to keep Ji Xiang there.
"What's this about visiting? Just come over and hang out whenever you're free. We're organizing the academic conference next year, and I'll send you an invitation then—you must come!"
"Understood, Teacher Zou."
"Excuse me, sorry to bother you."
A voice suddenly rang out by their ears. Zou Fuzhuren was startled, his stout body gave a twitch, and a shiny strand of saliva stretched from the corner of his mouth.
"It's Doctor Lin." Ji Xiang hurriedly blocked the space between Zou Fuzhuren and Lin Jiuze.
"Why are you like a ghost? You scared the hell out of me," Zou Fuzhuren grumbled. Seeing that Ji Xiang was busy, he mentioned he was leaving.
"Doctor Lin, are you like this at Massachusetts too?" Ji Xiang asked.
"It's alright." After a vague reply, Lin Jiuze got straight to the point. "Doctor Ji Xiang, I have a request that might be a bit presumptuous."
Saying this was a habit, but as soon as he finished, Lin Jiuze remembered the last time he had made a "presumptuous request," Ji Xiang had refused without a moment's hesitation.
His expression turned a bit ugly, as if he had swallowed a fly.
Originally, Lin Jiuze had been hesitant; after the show finished recording, he was still weighing whether to watch a few more surgeries or return to Massachusetts General Hospital.
Today, Ji Xiang's god-like move—accurately diagnosing a patient with lower gastrointestinal bleeding—left Lin Jiuze scratching his head even now, so he made a last-minute decision to go see what was happening at Ji Xiang's end.
But...
"A presumptuous request? Go ahead," Ji Xiang smiled, giving a completely different answer.
Lin Jiuze was somewhat surprised. He said cautiously, "Doctor Ji Xiang, I heard that you lead your own team at the Second Affiliated Hospital and have a Provincial Natural Science Project."
"I wouldn't say that," Ji Xiang laughed. "I'm still a Standardized Training Student; I mainly assist Zhao Yisheng in completing the research. The research project is indeed a Provincial Natural Science Project, that much is true."
This response left Lin Jiuze not knowing how to follow up.
"Let's put it this way: I'm very interested in surgery, and I'd like to come to your place for a period of advanced training. Do you think that's possible?" Lin Jiuze said truthfully.
Ji Xiang looked Lin Jiuze over with great interest.
Lin Jiuze was particularly curious about this; his own constitution was naturally a bit different, and while others never seemed to notice him, Ji Xiang was an exception.
This was also one of the reasons why Lin Jiuze wanted to go for "advanced training."
Of course, there was a more important reason.
"Learning surgery? You're welcome to," Ji Xiang smiled. "But it wouldn't be my medical team, it would be Zhao Yisheng's."
"Really?!" Lin Jiuze automatically filtered out the second half of Ji Xiang's sentence.
Zhao Zhe, some old Attending Physician with no prospects—does he even deserve it!
"Of course. Nowadays, surgery videos are all over the internet; if you want to learn, you can learn anytime. There's no need to hide anything, right, Doctor Lin?"
That's different, Lin Jiuze thought, rejecting Ji Xiang's statement in his heart.
"Doctor Ji Xiang, thank you." Lin Jiuze bowed deeply and formally, almost performing the rites of a disciple.
"You're welcome," Ji Xiang accepted Lin Jiuze's respect calmly.
"Xiao Ji, Xiao Ji, let me tell you something! The show's boss behind the scenes arranged a private jet for us to fly back—a private jet, can you believe it!" Lu Gang walked over in a rush, his face full of excitement.
"The show? The boss behind the scenes?" Ji Xiang frowned slightly.
"Yeah! I've never been on a private jet before. I heard they have everything you could want on board. This is a real eye-opener, I'm definitely going to take it!" Lu Gang stroked his shiny head, completely unaware that his only remaining strand of hair was dangling down.
"Oh, you guys go ahead. I'll book my own ticket and leave on my own," Ji Xiang said indifferently.
Lu Gang looked at Ji Xiang as if he were an idiot.
"I'm not used to taking private jets," Ji Xiang said, spouting nonsense. "My dad always tells me to maintain the fine qualities of diligence, thrift, and hard work."
"Are you sick? That's a private jet! There aren't many in the country, and everyone who has one is a big shot," Lu Gang tried to persuade him in his own way. "You have to experience this kind of thing at least once. I reckon this is the only time in my life I'll ever get to experience it."
"Better not. Lu Zhuren, I advise you not to take it either," Ji Xiang said.
"Forget it if you don't want to. I have to experience it once. When I get back and people ask, I'll have something to brag about."
Lu Gang had never been on TV and was basically a supporting character, a fact he had always been bitter about.
"Alright then. Please tell Fan Dao from the show that I'll just book my own ticket," Ji Xiang said.
"Honestly, you don't know how to enjoy a good thing, tsk tsk. Xiao Ji, do you think you'll have plenty of opportunities in the future?" Lu Gang said with disdain.
"Lu Zhuren, hello."
"Whoa, how is there still someone here!" Lu Gang was startled and glanced at Lin Jiuze.
"Lu Zhuren, go ahead and get busy. But I really don't suggest you take that private jet," Ji Xiang said very seriously.
"Pfft!" Lu Gang made a gesture and turned to leave. In an instant, he had completely forgotten about Lin Jiuze.
"Doctor Ji Xiang, you really are frugal," Lin Jiuze smiled.
Ji Xiang took out his phone to start booking a ticket, saying as he operated it, "There's still a big difference between domestic private jets and those in Europe and America."
"Oh?" Lin Jiuze's expression shifted.
Before this, his assumption was that Ji Xiang was just shy and didn't want to show his lack of experience, which was why he refused to take the private jet.
He hadn't even been curious about it.
But now, hearing Ji Xiang's comment, it seemed he had guessed completely wrong.
"Doctor Ji Xiang, what do you mean by that?" Lin Jiuze asked.
"Hold on a second. Oh, right, Doctor Lin, are you coming with me, or are you going back to Massachusetts General Hospital first to handle some administrative work?" Ji Xiang asked.
Lin Jiuze never expected things to go so smoothly. He hesitated for a moment, "If it's convenient, I'll go back with you."
"On the private jet?" Ji Xiang raised an eyebrow and smiled.
"No, I will go with you, and I can ask about the details of the surgery on the way."
"That's fine." Ji Xiang began to book the tickets.
After a brief farewell ceremony, Ji Xiang said goodbye one by one to the directors at Hang Yi Da Yi Fu Yuan he was familiar with, then took an earlier flight home.
