Chapter 653: Just a Guess
"Xiao Gao, please help me fetch a basin of warm water, thank you." The Family Member said, sobbing.
Ji Xiang was exhausted, but fetching warm water was better than using all his strength to perform chest compressions.
Holding the basin prepared by the Family Member, Ji Xiang went to the water room to fetch a basin of warm water and adjusted it to the right temperature.
Crazy Family Members are truly hard to deal with, even if she is a Doctor, Ji Xiang thought to himself.
He instructed the Nurse to get some alcohol, and looking at the patients crowding the entrance of his Consultation Room, a wave of helplessness rose in Ji Xiang's heart.
After two hours of busyness, two hours of futile effort, and even causing irreversible damage to the Patient's remains... all of this left Ji Xiang feeling blocked by countless obstacles, making even breathing somewhat difficult.
After fetching the warm water, Ji Xiang carried it back. Just as he reached the door, he heard a "thump" from inside the room, as if something heavy had fallen.
Damn it!
Could it be that they dropped the Patient's remains while turning them over? Ji Xiang hurriedly took a few quick steps into the Emergency Rescue Room.
The next second.
Ji Xiang saw the other middle-aged woman, who should have been the sister-in-law, lying on the floor, her limbs twitching.
"What's going on?"
Ji Xiang asked quickly.
"I... the sister-in-law couldn't accept the news of the old woman's passing and fainted all of a sudden." The Family Member said.
For some reason, Ji Xiang detected a hint of pleasure in her words.
One wave had not yet subsided when another rose; Ji Xiang was tearful, this was truly evil!
Another round of rescue.
This patient had a typical brain condition, with a high blood pressure of 230 mmHg, which was terrifyingly high.
There was no other way; he had to hurry and send them to Neurosurgery.
The living come first. In the patient's family, there was only Li Jie; her husband was on a plane returning to the country, so the things she could do were effectively zero.
Consequently, the Patient's remains were left in the Emergency Department for another 3 hours.
Every time Ji Xiang finished his work and walked out to see the remains covered by a blue sterile sheet in the Emergency Rescue Room, he felt it was very strange.
It was like a horror movie, or perhaps a doomsday film; Ji Xiang even felt every time that the patient was about to sit up the next second.
However, such supernatural things did not happen; it was just Ji Xiang's imagination.
A few hours later, the Family Member returned to wipe the Patient's remains, found a fortune teller, and contacted the funeral home.
After dressing the body and sending the person away, the Emergency Department finally returned to quiet.
"Brother Gao, your shift is really busy and incredibly unlucky. I swear, I will never work a shift with you again. We started resuscitating from the moment we took over; who could stand this?"
After finishing everything, it was already late at night, and the Nurse complained with a weary face.
Ji Xiang felt it was strange; the Patient's remains had already been sent away, what the hell was he feeling empathy for!
From beginning to end, he was like a marionette, having only done this one thing: emergency rescue.
"I'm going to check on Neurosurgery." Ji Xiang said, "There is a patient coming to ask the Surgeon to take a look for me."
After saying this, Ji Xiang trotted off to Neurosurgery.
Li Yisheng's sister-in-law was not there, so Ji Xiang found the Nurse to understand the situation.
"Brother Gao, they have gone into surgery." The Neurosurgery Nurse said.
"How is the situation?"
"They did an emergency CT; there is over 100 milliliters of cerebral hemorrhage. I estimate that even if they are saved, they will be in a Vegetative State."
"!!!"
Speaking of this, the little Nurse looked at me mysteriously, wanting to say something but stopping.
Ji Xiang's heart stirred; he vaguely felt that the meat of the story had arrived. This instance of Empathy was actually so convoluted and strange, with the real reason hidden so deep.
In an instant, the image of Li Yisheng during the emergency rescue flashed before Ji Xiang's eyes.
Doubts arose.
"It's truly pitiful; a family, gone in the blink of an eye." Ji Xiang sighed and began to fish for information from the little Nurse.
"Pitiful? I think it's deserved." The little Nurse lowered her voice extremely low; if it weren't for Ji Xiang's sharp hearing, he probably wouldn't have heard a word.
"What's going on? You can't curse a patient like that; watch your influence." Ji Xiang frowned and scolded.
"Brother Gao, I heard people say that back when there was still the family planning policy, Li Jie was pregnant. Her husband and mother-in-law pestered her relentlessly, insisting she go check if it was a boy or a girl."
Ji Xiang listened quietly.
"It turned out to be a girl, and Li Jie didn't want to have an induced abortion; after all, she was far along, and that's murder!"
"And then?"
"They say Li Jie was beaten by her mother-in-law and sister-in-law, and eventually miscarried. She had a massive hemorrhage; if it weren't for the doctors and nurses in our hospital volunteering to donate blood, Li Jie would have been gone long ago. You see, this person, having committed so many evils, in the end, received her just deserts."
Ji Xiang was stunned.
Just deserts? Heaven and earth are heartless and treat all things as straw dogs; who cares anyway.
If one must say there is retribution for evil, then there must be something fishy in the middle.
Connecting it to the fact that Li Yisheng insisted on resuscitation at the time, plus the demand for a 300J defibrillation, Ji Xiang vaguely understood something.
The little Nurse went to get busy, and Ji Xiang had to hurry back to his shift, but after a second thought, he still went to the Doctor's Office.
Finding an open workstation, Ji Xiang looked at the Patient's laboratory tests after admission.
Other tests had no problems, but the blood potassium was 1.8mmol/L, extremely low.
Was there any connection between these? Ji Xiang's mind was full of questions.
According to the general process, the Empathy should have ended, but the system did not recall Ji Xiang; he could only continue to work and get off work, not knowing what else the system wanted him to experience.
But a few days later, when Ji Xiang went to work again, he heard from the Nurse that Li Yisheng's husband had rushed back; the mother had already passed away, and the sister had become a patient in a Vegetative State.
He cursed Li Yisheng a few times, and Li Yisheng demanded a divorce without hesitation, refusing to listen to anyone's persuasion, and hired a lawyer to divide the property, threatening that he didn't care even if they fought a lawsuit for the rest of their lives.
At this moment, the guess in Ji Xiang's heart became increasingly clear.
An empty house is not the most tragic thing; leaving behind someone in a Vegetative State... then dividing assets and fighting lawsuits.
Everything about this seemed to portend something.
With a flash of light, Ji Xiang returned to the System Operating Room.
"Teacher, I didn't understand." After returning, Ji Xiang directly "reported" the results of the Empathy to the system NPC.
"Heh, it is normal not to understand. Xiao Zhou and I guessed about this case afterward, but there was no evidence." The system NPC stood with hands behind his back and waist hunched, speaking softly.
A guess?
Ji Xiang pricked up his ears and leaned forward, "Teacher, please tell me."
"Do you know about Compound Licorice Tablets?"
"I do. They were a commonly used medication in the past, but they are addictive, so they later became prescription drugs that must be prescribed by a Doctor. However, the hospital doesn't have the medicine, so there's no way to prescribe it even if one wanted to," Ji Xiang said.
Compound Licorice Tablets belong to a Legendary class of old medicine; their cough-suppressing effect is mild, and it is said they were used frequently in the past.
But because they are addictive, they were later banned.
"Have you ever eaten licorice candy?"
"I have." Ji Xiang frowned slightly, seemingly understanding what the system NPC meant.
Some time ago, Ji Xiang had just diagnosed a patient who had blood in their stool from eating licorice candy; the memory was still fresh, and he had not expected the system NPC to bring this up.
