Chapter 694: Baidu Medical Consultation (Part 2)

~7 min read 1,384 words

"Meng Laoshi, how should we stop them?" Ji Xiang asked.

"Do doctors have the authority for that? Stopping them—don't think too much about it." Meng Qingfei used the word 'authority', and after Ji Xiang thought about it, he was speechless.

"The blue spots on the patient's ears are the problem, though."

"There are some on the hands, too."

"Oh?!" Meng Qingfei thought about it, but couldn't recall anything.

He closed his eyes again, muttering something to himself. A long time later, a patient arrived, interrupting his train of thought.

It is very difficult to concentrate on thinking during a shift, and it is hard to identify the small blue spots on the patient's ears; relying solely on such a detail makes it truly difficult to deduce the problem.

Ji Xiang felt that only a System NPC could state the answer directly.

But for some reason today, Ji Xiang had not entered the System Operating Room.

He was interested in "solving the mystery" together with Meng Qingfei.

About an hour later, those people dispersed and the corridor became much quieter, so Ji Xiang went with Meng Qingfei to see the patient.

The patient had undergone a gastric lavage, with 8,000 milliliters of warm water pumped in and then back out; he had already been tortured to the point of losing half his life.

He was lying on an observation bed, receiving an IV drip.

The fluid was just saline with sugar, plus some Vitamin C and potassium to prevent electrolyte imbalance.

"What's going on?" Meng Qingfei asked the Emergency Internal Medicine Doctor.

"A patient with osteoarthritis who has Depression and took medication," the Emergency Internal Medicine Doctor said. "They said the osteoarthritis in both knee joints is quite severe, causing functional impairment. They haven't been able to go downstairs recently, and their mood has been getting worse and worse."

"That still doesn't explain it. Weren't there people here just now? What were they doing?"

The Emergency Internal Medicine Doctor gave Meng Qingfei a look, and after the two went outside, they arrived at the Consultation Room.

"Three years ago, the patient provoked something."

"Don't talk nonsense," Meng Qingfei said. "That's all feudal superstition."

"Old Meng, I'm telling the truth. There's someone around here who claims to be able to see things. Ever since she got her ability, she's looked more and more like a fox. Do you know about this?"

"I know. When our hospital was expanding, we asked her to look at the Feng Shui. I heard she went to the Imperial Capital later, but died not long after she got there."

"Good, you know," the Emergency Internal Medicine Doctor said. "We don't have to believe it, but we shouldn't talk nonsense."

Meng Qingfei nodded.

Ji Xiang was confused; they were clearly talking about a past event, one that even related to the Feng Shui during the expansion of the Second Affiliated Hospital.

Ji Xiang was quite accepting of this matter.

The wealthier and more powerful people are, the more they believe in these things.

His own grandfather knew a little about this, but only limited to Plum Blossom Yi Shu.

"Continue," Meng Qingfei said, becoming more cautious.

"Three years ago, the patient's urine started changing color. I checked just now, and his underwear is covered in black spots."

"How many years has it been since he changed his underwear?" Meng Qingfei asked.

"He changed it yesterday," the Emergency Internal Medicine Doctor said. "He said there's too much miasma or something in his body, so even his urine is black."

"..." Meng Qingfei gave a helpless, bitter smile. "I said we should draw blood for testing."

"We did," the Emergency Internal Medicine Doctor said. "It was red, but I still believe it."

Meng Qingfei shrugged. "Geez, do you think I'd believe the patient's blood isn't red?"

"Old Meng, I've already told the patient to observe for one night and go home tomorrow if nothing is wrong. The family also feels there's nothing wrong and even found someone to break the curse, so they agreed to observation. I'm telling you, don't be a busybody!"

Meng Qingfei smiled slightly.

"Old Meng! I heard what that group of people said; don't get angry with them!" The Emergency Internal Medicine Doctor understood Meng Qingfei and tried to dissuade him.

"I'm not."

"Are you feeling uncomfortable because you were scolded, and you want to diagnose the patient just to cut off their source of income?"

"The middle part is what I'm thinking, but the parts before and after are not," Meng Qingfei said.

This was a bit complex, and it took Ji Xiang a moment to understand what Meng Qingfei meant.

"Old Meng, I'm telling you very seriously: stay as far away as possible," the Emergency Internal Medicine Doctor urged again.

"Alright, alright, I know," Meng Qingfei waved his hand and said, "I saw small blue spots on the patient's ears and palms. Do you have any thoughts on that?"

"I don't know. I saw them too during the gastric lavage. I felt it was very strange and a bit eerie; I don't want to provoke them."

Meng Qingfei and the Emergency Internal Medicine Doctor chatted a bit more to understand the patient's basic situation.

The patient is male, 56 years old, with 10 years of bilateral knee joint pain, accompanied by morning stiffness lasting over half an hour.

Three years ago, the patient began to experience deep staining of his underwear after urination.

Physical examination: scattered blue-black spots on the skin of both auricles and fingers; swelling of bilateral metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal joints; limited flexion of the lumbar spine.

Because the patient came to the Emergency Department for suicide by medication, other examinations were all related to the medication.

The Emergency Internal Medicine Doctor went to get busy, and Meng Qingfei thought for a moment. "Xiao Ji."

"Yes, Meng Laoshi."

"You... never mind, I'll do it." After saying this, Meng Qingfei got up and went to the Treatment Room to get a pair of PVC film gloves and a cup, then went to the observation room to have the patient's family member provide a urine sample.

Half an hour later, the urine cup was placed in front of Meng Qingfei and Ji Xiang.

"Meng Laoshi, do you suspect Porphyria?" Ji Xiang asked.

"No," Meng Qingfei looked at the cup of urine and said softly, "With black appearing on the underwear, could it be Prostatic Hypertrophy, where urination is incomplete, causing urine to drip onto the underwear?"

"I remember a medical drama from a few years ago where they observed the urine for a few hours after collecting it and found it turned red, diagnosing it as Porphyria. I've never heard of it turning black."

"Urine can turn all sorts of colors, and each color represents a disease. I haven't looked into it in detail myself. It doesn't appear often in Clinical practice; this is my first time encountering black."

The two looked at the yellow, foamy urine in the cup, and Ji Xiang was reminded of apple juice squeezed from a juicer.

Come to think of it, it really did look a bit like it.

"Observe it and see if the color changes. The black on the underwear is very likely caused by dribbling urination," Meng Qingfei said, squinting his eyes as he stared at the urine.

"A young man like you who can pee three zhang against the wind doesn't understand, but you'll realize it when you're older. It's a very simple principle, so why make it so complicated?"

Ji Xiang really wanted to go to the System Operating Room, but he forcibly held back.

Soon, a Patient came for a consultation, and Meng Qingfei ran out to get busy, leaving the two of them to take turns watching this cup of urine.

It was a very strange night; Ji Xiang had never imagined that he would end up staring intently at a cup of urine for several hours.

It wasn't until after 11:00 PM that Ji Xiang dazedly saw the urine seem to change color.

His first instinct was that his eyes were playing tricks on him, so he rubbed them hard.

It wasn't his eyes playing tricks; the urine had truly changed color under his gaze!

"Meng Laoshi!" Ji Xiang shouted loudly.
