Chapter 696: The Draft Animal
Looking up medical conditions online has reached a new level?
Ji Xiang thought of this, and a smile appeared on his face.
How could that be.
He had witnessed the series of diagnostic processes by Meng Qingfei with his own eyes; that was not simply taking out a phone to look up medical conditions online.
Meng Laoshi, Meng Qingfei, had his own logic.
When filming the program, there was an episode where he went to the Outpatient Department, and the Affiliated Hospital had the Head Nurse and others play the role of patients. Zhao Mengmeng was completely stumped by the questions and subconsciously took out his phone to look up what the "patient" was saying.
At the time, the incident with Zhao Mengmeng was even taken as a joke.
As for Meng Laoshi, Meng Qingfei, he was several major realms higher than Zhao Mengmeng.
It was already late, and Meng Qingfei stretched comfortably.
"Nothing to do, go back and sleep," Meng Qingfei said. "I have absolutely nothing to do after getting off work tomorrow, but you still have to perform surgeries and write Medical Records."
"Alright, then I'll go back and rest." Ji Xiang felt he had gained a lot today.
Not only had he diagnosed a patient with Black Urine Disease, but he also had a new understanding of looking up medical conditions online.
It was indeed as Meng Qingfei said: plucking flowers and taking leaves can both be weapons; he had been too rigid in the past.
"You must pay more attention to rest; you stayed too long with me today," Meng Qingfei said. "Although you are young and don't feel it, if you don't pay attention, it will be miserable when you reach my age."
"How miserable?" Ji Xiang glanced at Meng Qingfei, not feeling at all that he was miserable anywhere.
Of course, the fact that he was kicked to the Emergency Department and could never go back to perform surgeries didn't count.
Meng Qingfei looked at Ji Xiang with a smile and didn't speak, which made Ji Xiang feel creeped out.
Could it be that Meng Laoshi was making a dirty joke with him?
Ji Xiang began to recall Meng Qingfei's words, but still couldn't find where the dirty joke was.
Could it be that Meng Laoshi's level of making dirty jokes had reached a point where others couldn't perceive it, and only after many years would they suddenly remember it and slap the table in admiration?
That couldn't be.
Ji Xiang was a bit confused.
"When I was a child, my home was in the countryside, and we needed draft animals to work. Cows, horses, donkeys, and so on."
"But every kind of draft animal has its problems. Cows have great strength and sufficient Stamina; they can do very heavy work, but they work slowly, and their efficiency isn't high."
Ji Xiang remembered *To Live* and the final dialogue written by Yu Hua.
"If you're talking about high efficiency, horses are quite impressive; they can pull and run, but they have no endurance and get exhausted after working for a while."
"Donkeys are good fellows; their speed and Stamina are moderate, between a cow and a horse, and they are very handy to use. But this thing has too much of a temper; it throws a tantrum at the drop of a hat, and every day before the cycle, you have to find an empty space for it to roll around to its heart's content."
"You tell me, this thing is useful, but it has a big temper, and it's not easy to handle."
"I thought back then, if only there were a kind that had both Stamina and speed, a good temper, and wouldn't make a sound no matter how you ordered it around. Oh right, it also had to eat little; you have no idea how much those draft animals eat during the winter."
Ji Xiang shrugged.
He knew very well what Meng Qingfei was talking about.
Meng Qingfei only said this much, glanced at Ji Xiang, and raised his hand to pat his shoulder.
"As a draft animal, you should rest when you need to. If you really can't work anymore, can you guess what idiom is waiting for you?" Meng Qingfei asked.
"Kill the donkey when the grinding is done," Ji Xiang said offhandedly.
"Good that you know. Go, I'll see you out."
The two walked in the midnight corridor of the Emergency Department, filled with the special smell unique to the Emergency Department—a mixture of vomit, excrement, blood, and sweat.
"Meng Laoshi, what do you do when you get off work?" Ji Xiang asked.
"Stay home, play games, swim, and exercise," Meng Qingfei asked. "Xiao Ji, do you play games?"
Ji Xiang shook his head.
Meng Qingfei looked at Ji Xiang as if he were a monster.
"No games, no girlfriend—what joy do you have in living? Do you really think you're a draft animal?"
"I do!" Ji Xiang said very seriously.
Meng Qingfei also felt he had gone a bit too far and laughed, "Xiao Ji, work is work; take it one step at a time, you still need to enjoy life. Speaking of which, you are a standard draft animal."
Ji Xiang also smiled. Was that so?
"Go back and rest early," Meng Qingfei said the same thing again. Just as the words fell, someone walked around the corner, face covered in blood, with a 7-8cm wound on their face.
The flesh of the wound on their face was turned outward, and red blood dripped onto the floor, looking quite terrifying.
If this weren't in a hospital, in the Emergency Department, this appearance could scare someone walking at night into a Myocardial Infarction.
A bitter expression appeared on Meng Qingfei's face.
Damn it!
Today's shift seemed to have very bad luck.
However, Meng Qingfei knew in his heart that such a patient could just be thrown to the Plastic Surgery department for a few stitches, and it had nothing to do with him.
"Injured? Were you beaten?" Meng Qingfei asked, pushing Ji Xiang aside.
"Yeah." The patient was very calm; their hand was not covering their face to block the wound, but rather letting the blood flow down.
This person... seemed to have some issues. Ji Xiang stopped his steps and went back with Meng Qingfei.
Meng Qingfei had to deal with the patient and didn't say much to Ji Xiang. He came before the patient and looked carefully, "Your injury is too complex. Above the hairline goes to Neurosurgery; below the hairline and near the eyes, ears, nose, and throat requires Oral Surgery to suture, and it seems you also need to find Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology together."
"Doctor, you can just stitch it up for me casually," the patient said very calmly.
"How is that possible?" Meng Qingfei firmly refused.
"It really doesn't matter, Doctor. Just stitch it up casually; I'm a man, I'm not afraid of scarring," the patient said.
Meng Qingfei shook his head, took the patient back to the Emergency Department, sent them into the Treatment Room, and had the Nurse call the other departments to find the various Chief Residents to come down and suture, while he dealt with the wound first.
"Doctor, there's no need for such trouble, I'm serious," the patient continued to say.
"Look at you," Meng Qingfei smiled, "In the past, I had a friend I knew who was injured here."
Meng Qingfei gestured across the Patient's face.
"He said the same thing, but after the Suturing was done, his tear duct was closed off, which caused a lot of trouble later. Medical specialties are very refined now; your injury spans three or four departments, so you can't just be casual about it even if you want to."
"..." The Patient hadn't expected it to be this troublesome; he frowned slightly, looking somewhat impatient.
But Meng Qingfei ignored his impatience and began to treat the wound.
"You should still be careful with facial injuries; have a specialist perform the debridement and Suturing, and use cosmetic sutures locally to minimize scarring."
"I don't need cosmetic sutures."
"It doesn't cost much," Meng Qingfei urged.
"Doctor, I don't need cosmetic sutures; I have no money," the Patient said quite firmly, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
Meng Qingfei frowned slightly and sniffed hard; Ji Xiang knew Meng Laoshi was determining whether the Patient had been drinking.
This person... looks a bit strange.
