Chapter 761: Professor Wei Is Not Worth Befriending
"Professor Wei, come, let's have a drink!" Liu Zhuren said, holding up his wine glass to organize a toast.
After three rounds of drinks, the people at the table were already five-tenths drunk.
They were all in the Urology Department, and were future stars of the Imperial Capital, so Liu Zhuren had always cared about exchanges in this area.
Who wouldn't want to leave themselves a way out?
If one day a certain surgery couldn't be completed, having an Expert from the Imperial Capital go to bat for you and fly to the Provincial Hospital for a consultation would be a fine story.
There weren't many similar examples, but they existed, and every such event would be gossiped about by Doctors as an Urban Legend.
Even someone as aloof as Bai Chuzhang had his own solid connections at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, though Bai Chuzhang rarely used them.
Liu Zhuren had seen and heard enough to develop this kind of fixed mindset.
So, knowing that Professor Wei Fusi was going to Yuanliao for a Kidney Transplantation, he contacted Zhou Jiaoshou in advance and arranged to have a meal together after they returned from the Provincial Hospital.
They clinked glasses and downed them in one go.
"Professor Wei, Zhou Jiaoshou, with you two holding the fort in the province, Kidney Transplantation surgeries have really taken off in the last two years," Liu Zhuren praised.
"It's just that the concepts on your side are too outdated," Wei Fusi accepted Liu Zhuren's praise but said with great dissatisfaction.
Liu Zhuren was slightly taken aback.
Zhou Tianbo then explained that there had originally been another Patient in Yuanliao waiting for a Kidney Transplantation, but the Kidney source hadn't been secured, so there was one less surgery.
Professor Wei Fusi wasn't exactly chasing that bit of Flying Knife money; his main goal was to increase his surgery volume to prepare for his future review for the Distinguished Youth award.
But because he was unhappy about this matter, Liu Zhuren's assessment of Wei Fusi was lowered slightly.
"Removing one Kidney to give to someone in need doesn't have a fatal impact on the body; this is the most basic common sense."
"That family of the person with the matching type really isn't worth a damn, acting as if they were going to die just from providing one Kidney."
"I don't know who they listened to—some idiot—but they refused very bluntly, even though I had the surgery prepared on my end."
Wei Fusi had drunk some alcohol, so he was talking a bit too much, rambling on and on.
"How did the Family Member know the matching was successful?" Liu Zhuren paused for a moment.
Wei Fusi frowned slightly, "The Patient's biological mother told them."
Biological mother—the term was slightly strange, and Liu Zhuren felt a bit repulsed inside.
You could figure out what was going on with your heels; Professor Wei was not a person worth befriending.
Liu Zhuren couldn't say more at the dinner table, so he kept brushing him off.
Liu Zhuren did not agree with Wei Fusi's perspective.
Surgery, especially surgery involving organ transplantation, should always be cautious and more cautious.
But Wei Fusi's emotions were clearly over-excited after drinking, which made Liu Zhuren feel somewhat irritated.
Liu Zhuren found a pause and steered the conversation elsewhere.
"Speaking of the issue of concepts, it really is like that. People on our side have relatively outdated concepts; for example, I bought my mother a smart washing machine."
"Old people, you know, are used to washing clothes by hand. But she's over seventy after all, so I figured if there's a machine, she should use it. Honestly, even when I ask them to go to San Ya in the winter, they won't go, always finding various excuses—it's just because they're afraid of spending money."
"Yes, old people are all like that," Zhou Tianbo said with a smile.
"Ever since I bought the smart washing machine, my mother calls me every week; I've explained the buttons to her eight hundred times and she still won't use it," Liu Zhuren said. "But if you say she really can't use it, that's impossible."
"Hahaha, an old person's learning ability does decline a bit with age, Liu Zhuren, there's no helping that," Zhou Tianbo also helped Liu Zhuren change the subject.
"Actually, it looks like that on the surface, but I also bought my mother an automatic mahjong table, which counts as an electronic product, right? Not only does my mother know how to use it, she knows how to take it apart. If there's any problem while playing mahjong, she fixes it in less than half an hour; she doesn't wait for me to go back at all."
Zhou Tianbo was stunned, then burst into loud laughter.
Wei Fusi also smiled, but his train of thought was still on that "should-have-been-done-but-wasn't" Kidney Transplantation surgery; once Liu Zhuren finished speaking, Wei Fusi started his verbal attacks again.
Liu Zhuren sighed inwardly.
It looked like no matter how high Wei Fusi's future achievements were, they would have nothing to do with him.
A professor's values needed to be similar to those of the local doctors for there to be better cooperation.
Gu Lao was quite good, but unfortunately, the First Affiliated Hospital had gotten to him first.
Having eaten enough, Liu Zhuren was also feeling impatient with the listening; he took a small box out of his handbag and passed out dental floss to everyone.
"Oh, Liu Zhuren is really particular," Zhou Tianbo said with a teasing smile, ignoring Wei Fusi.
"Sigh, there's a story behind this."
"Tell me," Zhou Tianbo looked at Liu Zhuren, discarding Wei Fusi's grumbling.
"When I was young, I wasn't particular about picking my teeth; I didn't even use toothpicks. What did I like to use?"
Liu Zhuren picked up the cigarette pack on the table and took out the foil inside.
"I used this thing."
"You can pick your teeth with this?" Zhou Tianbo was stunned.
"Professor Zhou, you really shouldn't say that; this thing is very convenient for picking teeth, unlike now, where you have to carry dental floss. It has to be individually packaged, otherwise, there will be a lot of awkward situations."
"However, one time a Patient's Family Member treated us to KTV and called for some hostesses. I wasn't very interested in the hostesses, so I huddled in the corner."
Zhou Tianbo revealed a playful smile.
Liu Zhuren didn't mind and continued, "I took the foil out of the cigarette pack and folded it up, and when I looked up again, all the hostesses were gone."
"Ah? What happened?"
"They walked out the front door and called the police out the back."
"!!!" Zhou Tianbo suddenly realized, "Hahahaha."
"So ever since then, I've had to start using dental floss," Liu Zhuren sighed.
"Using dental floss is pretty good; it's better than you causing such a misunderstanding."
"Ever since that..."
As Liu Zhuren was speaking, his phone rang.
He made an apologetic gesture and answered the phone.
"Mm, mm, mm, how is it now?"
"What does that have to do with us?"
"Damn it!"
Liu Zhuren cursed unhappily and hung up the phone.
"Is there an emergency?" Zhou Tianbo asked.
They were all Doctors, so they were certainly clear on such matters.
It was just that calls for general emergency surgeries rarely went to a Director; below the Director were the Clinical frontline doctors, the second-line Resident Chief, and the third-line on-call professors.
Today was likely just a coincidence.
But Liu Zhuren had been drinking; could he still perform surgery?
"A Patient with a Femoral Shaft Fracture had a problem with a Blood Transfusion and is now in the ICU. There is no urine output, and there is a small amount of hematuria."
No urine output meant the urine flowing out of the catheter per hour was extremely minimal, not that there was absolutely none at all.
"This also has nothing to do with us," Zhou Tianbo frowned.
"Sigh, my Chief Resident is incompetent, I have to go take a look." Liu Zhuren happened to want to leave and not listen to Wei Fusi ramble.
He was also the one who instructed Wu Zong to make the call.
He only needed an excuse.
"Let's go together; I'll also take a look at your standards."
Liu Zhuren was suddenly stunned when he heard Professor Wei Fusi say this.
