Chapter 768: Papers with Traffic
"It's just a matter of practice; do it enough and you'll naturally get used to it," Ji Xiang said. "Publishing an SCI Thesis isn't difficult; what's hard is the Citation Count."
"What's a Citation Count?"
Tang Yan had no idea about these advanced terms and asked curiously.
Although Ji Xiang was young, he could always come up with some strange and peculiar terms.
Just like with Citation Count, Tang Yan had never heard other professors or Experts mention it.
Everyone at the Second Affiliated Hospital took pride in publishing an SCI Thesis; as for whether others would cite it, that was just a "minor detail."
"Simply put, Citation Count is the popularity of a paper, its Traffic," Ji Xiang answered simply.
"Papers actually have Traffic?!" Tang Yan was surprised.
"Papers that are just fluff don't, but proper papers all do," Lin Jiuze said flatly, giving Tang Yan a start.
How is there another person here!
However, after assisting in many surgeries, Tang Yan had slowly accepted this fact.
"Good papers will be cited by others; generally speaking, 10 citations is already considered the passing line."
"A paper's external citations are an important hallmark factor for measuring the level of an academic paper. Only if a paper has value will it be cited. Some classic papers are cited hundreds or thousands of times; ten or more citations earn a Highly Cited Mark."
Ji Xiang squinted his eyes and explained to Tang Yan in a gentler tone.
"Then what about your papers?" Tang Yan asked.
"The Citation Count is only over 200 right now; I still need to keep working hard."
"!!!"
Tang Yan highly suspected that Ji Xiang was humble-bragging.
Although she didn't quite understand, Tang Yan felt it was very impressive.
Moreover, Ji Xiang was never a person to boast; what he said basically ended up becoming reality in the end.
"It's really not high," Ji Xiang explained in a firm tone, trying to clarify that he wasn't humble-bragging. "For current papers, as long as you are familiar with the writing format, you can write out a whole string of things."
Seeing that Tang Yan was still somewhat confused, Ji Xiang thought for a moment.
"You know about Zhang Heng's Seismoscope, right?" Ji Xiang asked.
"I do."
Tang Yan didn't understand why the Seismoscope had anything to do with papers.
"I have a friend who is a Doctor of Philosophy at the Geological University," Ji Xiang said. "He was very interested in the Seismoscope when he was in school, but he could never make one. Later on, the two of us tinkered with it together and customized a Seismoscope based on the appearance in pictures."
"Pfft, just the appearance? What's the use of that?" Tang Yan said with disdain.
"The dragon's mouth holds a bead, and there's a program controlling it. The program uses a Crawler to connect externally to the national professional Earthquake Prediction Network. Once the Earthquake Prediction Network predicts an earthquake, the program starts itself, and the bead drops."
"..."
"..."
"Although I don't know how Zhang Heng did it back then, the thing we tinkered with seems to be about the same," Ji Xiang laughed. "Or perhaps Zhang Heng was a time traveler, and he used a one-of-a-kind piece just like the one we tinkered with."
"This..."
Lin Jiuze was somewhat bewildered.
Zhao Zhe and Tang Yan didn't think too deeply about the so-called "Seismoscope" Ji Xiang mentioned, but Lin Jiuze pondered it carefully, and the more he thought, the more terrified he became.
Although this thing was a fake, the details were quite imaginative, and the thinking wasn't confined to the status quo.
Letting his thoughts wander, Lin Jiuze vaguely felt he had received some inspiration.
And what Ji Xiang said wasn't nonsense; instead, it verified some of Lin Jiuze's hypotheses regarding papers.
"Done, pack up!" Ji Xiang turned and stepped down from the platform.
Today's surgery was finished, and it was already quite late; Ji Xiang still had things on his mind.
Meng Qingfei was on duty, and Ji Xiang was going to keep him company.
After all, Meng Qingfei was the man he couldn't stop thinking about after waking up from general anesthesia; every time Ji Xiang thought about this, he would laugh to himself.
However, Ji Xiang wasn't in a hurry; he waited until the Patient was sent back to the ward after general anesthesia and their condition was stable before changing clothes and leaving.
Arriving at the Emergency Department, the familiar scent rushed to meet him.
Only, the scent in the Emergency Department today had a much stronger smell of blood; they must have been resuscitating a Patient.
And it was mixed with the smell of vomit.
It looked like the Internal Medicine Department wasn't idle either; there were quite a few Patients with alcohol poisoning needing gastric lavage.
After half a year of training, Ji Xiang could already judge what the Emergency Department had been doing based on the smell.
Arriving at the entrance of the Emergency Surgery Clinic, Meng Qingfei saw Ji Xiang and tossed a set of keys over.
Ji Xiang familiarly went to put on Meng Qingfei's White Uniform to help out.
Past nine o'clock, things finally quieted down.
"Xiao Ji, you seem to have a lot of research work lately; there's no need to always keep me company on duty. If you want to meet up and chat, as long as I'm not on duty, we can go out for a drink," Meng Qingfei said, slumped in his chair, to Ji Xiang.
Ji Xiang knew that Meng Laoshi was feeling a bit embarrassed.
"It's nothing, Meng Laoshi," Ji Xiang said. "Coming to the Emergency Department to take a look is good for gaining Clinical experience."
"Clinical experience? Heh," Meng Qingfei laughed. "You used to always talk about how things were during your internship. At first, I wondered if this kid was really bragging; how many Patients can you encounter in a year of internship, and how much can you remember? It looks like you were very diligent during your internship."
Ji Xiang felt ashamed.
Although it was true that he was diligent during his internship, Clinical experience and many things were basically encountered when he experienced Empathy.
Just after saying a few words, the sound of an Emergency Vehicle arrived.
Meng Qingfei sighed deeply, stood up, and walked out of the Consultation Room.
"Is it for our Surgery Department?"
"Yeah, the Emergency Vehicle went out while you were Suturing just now; a lower-level hospital encountered a Pneumothorax Patient, and the Patient went into Shock after Closed Thoracic Drainage."
"Uh..."
Ji Xiang was slightly stunned.
"Is there bleeding?"
"I don't know, let's see the situation."
As the gurney pushed the Patient in, Ji Xiang first looked at the Chest Bottle hanging on the gurney, which was positioned lower than the Patient.
The water column in the Chest Bottle fluctuated well, and no bloody fluid was being drained, so it was estimated to be just a Spontaneous Pneumothorax.
Then where did the Shock come from?
Continuing to look at the Patient, Ji Xiang saw that the Patient was drenched in sweat, pale in the face, and the eyelids were also white.
The blood pressure was also on the low side, only 80/56 mmHg.
The first impression was Hemorrhagic Shock, but where would the blood come from?
Meng Qingfei had already requested an Ultrasound, and after checking around, no internal bleeding was found.
"Send them to Thoracic Surgery," Meng Qingfei said. "Tell the Chief Resident in Thoracic Surgery that the Patient is fine and can be discharged after staying for a day or two."
The attendant escorting the Patient acknowledged the order and pushed the Patient away.
"Meng Laoshi, the Patient... is in Hemorrhagic Shock, right?" Ji Xiang asked doubtfully. "Shouldn't we do some other tests? I have a feeling they are going to need surgery to stop the bleeding."
"No, everything that needed to be checked has been checked; it's just a simple Spontaneous Pneumothorax. The blood pressure is a bit low and the condition looks a bit poor, but that's all normal."
"..."
Ji Xiang could not understand Meng Laoshi's words.
Meng Laoshi had already briefly described the characteristics of Hemorrhagic Shock, yet he later said it was nothing.
"Hahaha, don't overthink it. I'm not kicking the Patient out; sending them to the inpatient department is fine. It's just that the Chief Resident will nag me, saying I'm admitting patients indiscriminately."
With doubts in his heart, Ji Xiang focused his mind and entered the System Operating Room.
