Chapter 726: Zhang Fei

"What did you say?"

Zhang Fei widened his eyes and demanded of Guo Wu: "You say my second brother defected to Cao Cao? You are spouting nonsense!"

Zhang Fei could not believe it at all.

That was Cao Cao!

The culprit who caused them to lose Xuzhou, chased them down, forced them to flee all the way, and eventually led to them being separated—how could he defect to Cao Cao?

Zhang Fei could not believe it.

His second brother was loyal and righteous; how could he be such a person?

Most importantly, if what this person said was true, then wasn't his eldest brother killed because of his second brother?

"No! I must investigate this thoroughly! Also, perhaps I can ask Yi Jiu; he should know the inside story, right?"

Zhang Fei's heart was in turmoil.

Although he was very reluctant to believe what this person said, he felt a vague sense of unease, fearing it might be true.

If it were true, how could he face his second brother?

Kill him?

He couldn't do it!

But if his second brother really caused his eldest brother's death, then he would have to kill his second brother to avenge his eldest brother, no matter what.

Of course, Zhang Fei preferred to believe this wasn't true; even if it were, there must be some hidden reason he didn't know about.

In any case, his second brother could not have harmed his eldest brother; it was absolutely impossible!

"Especially Guan Yu Yu, don't let me down!"

Zhang Fei thought to himself with complex emotions.

"I am really not spouting nonsense! General! Believe me! This can be easily verified!"

Guo Wu couldn't help but defend himself.

He was like a fish about to die of thirst, trying to grasp this only chance of survival.

"Whether it's true or not, you are useless now! You can go die!"

"Crack!"

Zhang Fei spoke these words coldly, then exerted force with his hand, snapping Guo Wu's neck before his desperate eyes.

Then he let go, letting Guo Wu's corpse fall to the ground.

"Let's go! Follow me back!"

The next moment, Zhang Fei turned his horse around, signaled his personal guards, and hurried toward Zhuo Commandery.

Several hours later, Zhang Fei returned to the Zhang family's fortress.

He met the secret guard Yi Jiu again.

"Hmm? General Zhang, you've returned so soon? How was it? Did you capture and kill Guo Tu?"

Yi Jiu asked curiously.

Of course, he was just asking; he had already seen the battle through his spirit beast.

However, fearing discovery by Zhang Fei, he had not let the spirit beast get close, so he was unaware of the conversation between Zhang Fei and "Guo Tu."

"No!"

Zhang Fei shook his head: "I did kill many people, including the leader, but that person was not the real Guo Tu, just a double!"

"Also, I want to ask you, that person said my eldest brother was killed because of my second brother!"

"Is it true that my second brother, Especially Guan Yu Yu, defected to Cao Cao and helped him kill Yuan Shao's great generals, Yan Liang and Wen Chou?"

"Both true and false!"

Yi Jiu nodded and shook his head: "Your second brother is indeed temporarily serving Cao Cao, but that is because Cao Cao earlier captured your eldest brother Liu Xuande's two concubines, and those two concubines were already pregnant, suspected to be your eldest brother's children."

"Cao Cao used this as a threat, forcing your second brother, Especially Guan Yu Yu, to temporarily reside under his command and serve him!"

"Huh?"

Zhang Fei was stunned; clearly, he had not expected this to be the reason.

"Two concubines? Are they them?"

Zhang Fei quickly recalled who these two concubines were.

Weren't they the women Tao Shi and Cao Shi had sent to his eldest brother?

"But my eldest brother told us at the time that he had never touched those two women! Did he lie?"

Zhang Fei began to doubt.

But his eldest brother did basically sleep side-by-side with him and his second brother every day.

Almost without exception.

But such things were hard to say for sure; he couldn't follow his eldest brother every moment, and there was no rule that such things had to happen at night, right?

"Eldest brother, why did you have to lie to me and the second brother? If you had told the truth, how could we have abandoned the two sisters-in-law back then?"

Zhang Fei complained in his heart.

He felt his eldest brother was too deceitful.

At the same time, he vaguely felt that this must be the real reason his second brother was temporarily serving the Cao thief.

Otherwise, it couldn't be explained.

"So, was my eldest brother really implicated by my second brother, and thus killed by Yuan Shao?"

Zhang Fei asked Yi Jiu bitterly.

What was this?

Should he blame Especially Guan Yu Yu?

Why did Zhang Fei feel he couldn't blame Especially Guan Yu Yu?

Should he blame his eldest brother instead?

Zhang Fei guessed that his second brother probably didn't know his eldest brother had temporarily defected to Yuan Shao at the time, right?

"Not exactly!"

However, Yi Jiu shook his head: "As far as I know, when Yuan Shao learned that the person who beheaded his generals Yan Liang and Wen Chou was your second brother, Especially Guan Yu Yu, he was indeed very angry and summoned your eldest brother for a confrontation!"

"But in the end, Yuan Shao hoped to use your eldest brother to poach your second brother from Cao Cao, to have your second brother serve him, thereby offsetting the crimes of your eldest and second brothers!"

"It's just that, I don't know what change occurred, but Yuan Shao eventually changed his mind and chose to let Guo Tu surround and kill your eldest brother!"

"I don't know the specific reasons for that! You will have to investigate that yourself later!"

Of course, this was a lie.

As a secret guard, how could he not know the real reason?

Wasn't it all Cao Cao's scheme?

In the end, Yuan Shao and Guo Tu had just fallen for Cao Cao's trick and were played.

But Yi Jiu could not tell Zhang Fei this.

Otherwise, Zhang Fei would definitely want to kill Cao Cao in the future. ===== CHAPTER 728 =====
