Chapter 35: Hunting Plan

~6 min read 1,114 words

Wu Xian and the other two stepped back in unison.

Zombies are too well-known—everyone has seen a few zombie movies—and all three of them stared with wariness, weapons drawn and ready to strike.

Wen Chao sighed helplessly.

“Don’t be like that. She’s quiet. She won’t hurt anyone.”

Wen Chao affectionately took the zombie’s hand, a gesture that made everyone’s scalp crawl—to hell with this quiet zombie.

“This is my beloved, Fu He.”

“When we were young, we were both too busy with work. Now that we’re old, she’s fallen ill. I want to take her out for one last journey, to see this beautiful land.”

“We’re trapped in this blessed land—we can’t escape. Eventually, we’ll face similar circumstances again. Will we be lucky enough to survive then? Will we gamble on that sliver of survival probability?”

Based on Su Huilan’s information, they arrived at the entrance to the supermarket’s underground warehouse.

“You make sense—but… I don’t trust you.”

Wen Chao shook his head.

“Third is cement. Yu Yinghua’s ability can turn the concrete floor into mud. Once we enter, our movement will be severely restricted.”

“Why do I have to come along? I’ve provided the main intelligence—my contribution is enough. There’s no need to drag a weak woman into combat.”

But to carry out Wu Xian’s plan, one obstacle had to be eliminated first.

With her present, Wu Xian’s plan couldn’t proceed.

“But what about next time?”

Her meaning was clear: she would only provide intelligence; combat was the men’s duty.

“Fortunately, this blessed land differs from reality.”

On the old woman’s collar, he spotted bits of flesh and long hair—the length of the hair suggested…

Su Huilan picked up the thread: “I’ve experienced a few blessed lands. If you perform well, you do gain a slight advantage… though it’s minimal.”

If corpse cultivation requires living humans, might this old man turn them into fuel too?

So this gentle old man, who had always kept a low profile, was the real monster!

Wu Xian glared at Shi Ji, who immediately shrank his head.

While Wen Chao was explaining.

But to Detective Wu Xian, Su Huilan was no longer merely suspicious—she was a confirmed culprit.

After Wu Xian finished outlining his plan.

Su Huilan and Wen Chao sought advantage—gaining a slight edge in the next blessed land.

Now that the cause of their deaths was clear, Wu Xian relaxed. As long as they hadn’t died without reason, his plan could proceed without hesitation.

“If I hadn’t blown up the septic tank, I wouldn’t have received the blessing of Zi Gu. Should we blow up another septic tank?” Shi Ji supported Wu Xian and earned a glare of approval in return.

Everyone calmed their emotions.

Otherwise, in his view, the plan’s feasibility was worse than blowing up a septic tank.

The underground warehouse’s door stood open; concrete steps descended into darkness, their end unseen. Inside, only a pitch-black void pulsed with unease.

What could they do? Wu Xian was simply more dominant now.

The operation plan was set.

But this candor sent a chill through Wu Xian, Shi Ji, and the others.

“But this place became a blessed land, and she was always timid… so, so she didn’t survive the first night.”

Su Huilan immediately grew displeased.

“Everyone already knows the clapping game. With the Ghost Mother of Lost Children, we can safely get through the next few days.”

Their gazes locked for a moment; finally, Su Huilan reluctantly yielded.

“This malevolent spirit is troublesome—not comparable to minor guardian spirits.”

Others might not notice.

The blessed land’s range covered only four small residential districts.

It received unanimous approval from the other three.

Su Huilan informed everyone of the intelligence she possessed.

Wen Chao listed everything he needed; Wu Xian and the others scrambled to gather it.

“You!”

Wu Xian acknowledged her contribution.

Wu Xian smirked: “I have a plan…”

The sunlight had grown dimmer; even in broad daylight, faint shadows occasionally appeared. Every blade of grass, every brick and tile radiated an eerie aura.

“Thank you, Professor Wen,” Wu Xian nodded. “Then the direct confrontation with the malevolent spirit is left to us three.”

Shi Ji simply trusted Wu Xian.

Now was not the time to pursue this old man’s corpse-cultivation crimes.

Wu Xian carefully studied the old woman zombie.

“This time, we will indeed survive.”

After speaking, Su Huilan crossed her arms and stared at the three.

Shi Ji and the others were somewhat tempted.

“I imitated you and bowed to those idols—and received a ‘Corpse Cultivation Technique.’ I thought it would bring her back to life, but instead it turned her into this half-human, half-ghost thing.”

Days in the blessed land were clearly growing shorter.

“No—we should seize the opportunity to gain more benefits, to secure an advantage in future blessed lands.”

Su Huilan asked: “What about the bodies that disappeared earlier…?”

That was the female malevolent spirit, Yu Yinghua!

Shi Ji immediately undermined her: “What’s there to resent? Living’s better than dying.”

“I fed them all to Old Fu. Fresh flesh boosts a zombie’s strength. I didn’t want to waste them…”

Indeed, Su Huilan’s intelligence was highly valuable—an asset in itself. With this, Yu Yinghua was already like a fish on a chopping block; her absence from battle was not unreasonable.

“Second is durability. Yu Yinghua’s body is extremely tough. Ordinary artifacts and talismans inflict minimal damage.”

“But are you willing to end it like this?”

Wu Xian cleared his throat.

“I fed them all to Old Fu. To complete corpse cultivation, you need sufficient flesh. I figured those corpses were just sitting there.”

“Is Yue Mei’s body still here?”

Wen Chao was candid.

He knew He Qiong and her sister’s deaths were inextricably tied to her—he couldn’t risk his life while this serpent-woman stayed safe in the rear.

Everyone began preparing.

After this exchange.

Wen Chao spoke first: “I’ll handle the light and cement issues. I can’t guarantee a perfect solution, but I’ll definitely improve things.”

“First is brightness. The basement is too dark—we can’t see her position, but she knows ours perfectly.”

His tone was calm, as if he’d fed the zombie not a living person, but discounted pork from the supermarket.

“To kill her, we must overcome three challenges.”

“I think everyone probably doesn’t want to risk it anymore.”

Wen Chao asked: “What do you mean by ‘risk’?”

But all kinds of shops remained intact—only food and water stores had been emptied; others, like hardware and construction materials, were still fully stocked.

In no time, Wen Chao had gathered everything he needed. After processing them all, the hunt for Yu Yinghua was ready.

Only action remained!
