Chapter 536: Malevolent Spirits Bloom as Flowers

~6 min read 1,145 words

Most plants and flowers have five petals; snowflakes alone have six.

The so-called Six-Petal Ice Flower Spell launches a six-petaled ice flower that begins freezing upon contact with the target.

When Wu Jigee activated the talisman.

A beautiful ice flower, about ten centimeters in diameter, crystallized at his fingertip; he blew on it, and the flower spun toward the fake Guo Xiaodong.

The fake Guo Xiaodong had just started running, and with his large frame, he had no time to dodge—he could only swing his fist at the ice flower.

Boom! The ice flower met his fist, exploding into a mist of frost; his fist and half his forearm froze solid, forcing his movement to halt.

“Hmph!”

Guo Xiaodong punched the wall; the ice crystals shattered, taking some of the fake Guo Xiaodong’s skin with them to the ground. His fist was bloody and mangled, but such injuries couldn’t kill a malevolent spirit.

Wu Jigee asked anxiously: “Didn’t you add a supplementary talisman to mine? What effect did it have?”

But Wu Xian had never seen the effect of the “Ghost—Diffusion Talisman” himself; he could only stare at the fake Guo Xiaodong and say: “You’ll see soon enough.”

The fake Guo Xiaodong flexed his wrist and continued toward Wu Xian; his massive frame cast overwhelming pressure down the narrow, dim corridor.

But he took only one step before stopping.

For before him, a person had suddenly appeared—out of nowhere.

The man was elderly, wearing the training center’s uniform, his face pale, eyes pitch-black, expression inhumanly cold, his body translucent with a faint greenish luminescence.

This was a ghost!

The old man was only the first; after him came a second, a third… Within five meters in front of the fake Guo Xiaodong, the corridor was filled with ghostly figures in uniforms—all staring at him with their black eyes, as if gazing upon a corpse.

“Aaaah!”

The ghostly figures shrieked and lunged forward, reaching for the fake Guo Xiaodong.

The fake Guo Xiaodong smashed the foremost old man with a punch—but his fist froze solid; at the moment of impact, the old man turned into a six-petaled ice flower. Then an old woman lunged from behind, and translucent blue-white ice crystals formed on his back.

One ghost after another charged forward; one ice flower bloomed after another, spreading cold white mist; a chilling wind swept through the room, and frost coated the floor, windows, and ceiling—most thickly of all, on Guo Xiaodong’s body.

When all the ghostly figures vanished, the fake Guo Xiaodong had become a statue of ice; through the frost, his grotesque form was clearly visible.

Wu Jigee was stunned.

“What talisman did you just use? It must be high-level—I’ve never seen such a… sinister talisman.”

Wu Xian exhaled a cold breath but did not answer Wu Jigee’s question.

He wrapped the Blood-Thorn Silk around his right foot, then assumed the Invading Fire Flying Kick stance.

The staircase was still blocked; the exit had not appeared—meaning the fake Guo Xiaodong was not yet dead.

“One, two, three… four, five!”

Whoosh! Flames erupted from the back of Wu Xian’s foot, blackening the ground; he instantly appeared beside the fake Guo Xiaodong and delivered a fiery kick straight to his chest.

Boom! The explosion of fire shattered the ice statue; the fake Guo Xiaodong’s body broke into fragments, dissolving into wisps of black mist.

Wu Xian rose from the ground, his leg aching—but he was pleased.

Normally he could only sustain the Invading Fire Flying Kick for three seconds; longer would injure him. But his body, strengthened by the “Overwork-Becomes-Ghost” enhancement from PE class, combined with the protection of the Blood-Thorn Silk, could now barely endure five seconds of charge! After the fake Guo Xiaodong died.

The wall at the end of the corridor vanished; the staircase finally appeared, and within the ice crystals floated three Spirit Incense sticks. It seemed this blessed land offered two ways to obtain Spirit Incense.

One was to kill the black monsters in the trash bins—relatively simple, but the Spirit Incense gained carried side effects.

The other, like other blessed lands, was to slay malevolent spirits—but these spirits might not be easy to kill.

Wu Xian considered, then picked up the three Spirit Incense sticks from the ice and tossed one to Wu Jigee.

Wu Jigee took it and nodded.

“Thanks. I owe you one.”

He knew well: Wu Xian’s talisman was no ordinary thing, and with the preliminary probe using the wolf-whisk and the final flying kick finish, by contribution share, even one stick was a steal.

The three newcomers hiding in the room had been watching silently; now that safety was assured, they cautiously stepped out.

Jiang Zisheng’s attitude toward Wu Xian was far more reverent than before; this was his first encounter with a blessed land, yet he could plainly see Wu Xian’s power was on a completely different level from the other Juanren .

There was nothing left to explore in this building.

On the way down, Wu Jigee frowned as he asked Wu Xian.

“By the way, how did you know I was a Juanren ? I thought I hid it pretty well—I even practiced for ages watching gangster movies…”

Wu Xian’s expression turned slightly odd.

“First, when we hunted the black monsters and collected contaminated Spirit Incense yesterday, your expression showed clear resentment—even if subtle, I noticed.”

“Second, Mr. Jiang said you’re a fraud.”

“Third… I suggest, if you’re going to practice acting, watch newer movies—not ones from ten or twenty years ago. Your performance is outdated. I know a bit about Fuyuan City’s gangs—none of them operate like yours…”

Wu Jigee’s face flushed slightly.

“I had no choice—modern movies are terrible!”

Then Wu Jigee curiously asked Jiang Zisheng: “Older brother, how did you know I was a fraud?”

“Misunderstanding. All misunderstanding.”

Jiang Zisheng smiled apologetically, bowing low, promising to make amends properly after they left, for the earlier conflict.

Wu Jigee was easily fooled, never noticing Jiang Zisheng had not answered his question.

The answer was simple.

Because no such gang as Wu Jigee described existed in Fuyuan City—if it had, Jiang Zisheng would have known it. So from the start, he knew Wu Jigee was fake.

After leaving the dormitory building.

The group searched two more dorm buildings and found four more statues: Wu Xian discovered one, Wu Jigee found one, Jiang Zisheng and Jin Shasha each found one.

After finishing the three buildings, dusk fell; they agreed to meet at the dorm entrance at six p.m., ending today’s search.

Wu Xian finally sighed in relief.

He’d been growing impatient long ago; the search had merely followed the plan. His only real desire now? Kill the cat! He would kill that “white orange cat!” Wu Xian loved petting cats—but he had no intention of becoming a cat-faced old man!
