Chapter 61: I
Dawn.
Bright sunlight streamed through the window gauze, painting the bedroom in a faint golden hue.
The edges of the gauze stirred slightly in the morning breeze, bringing in a few strands of crisp, cool air.
“This book, ‘Detailed Explanation of Noble Blessings’ by Duke Cameron, covers everything thoroughly.”
Xia Mingyu, awake, leaned against the headboard, flipping through a book borrowed from the library.
Knowledge is always the foundation of one’s standing—he firmly believed this.
“So far, it seems the Starfire’s ability is to summon from across the entire world those who harbor justice and possess immense potential.”
As he read, Xia Mingyu recalled the events of last night in the Starfire Chapel.
Tameralan, the Pope’s grandson, naturally possessed an extraordinary talent.
And in this world, the Pope’s grandson will almost certainly become the next Pope!
Moreover, the character he has shown so far is worthy of a Holy Knight.
As for that nameless giant slave—just from his physique, it was clear he possessed terrifying potential in warfare.
As for character, it could be gradually cultivated starting with literacy; he trusted that Starfire would never summon a wicked person.
“Thinking about it this way, I suddenly feel much lighter!”
Xia Mingyu stretched, at least now he knew he wasn’t alone in this world, fighting alone for that vague, ethereal ideal.
“By the way, if Starfire’s range is the entire world, doesn’t that mean people from the Eastern Continent could also be summoned?” Xia Mingyu frowned slightly.
If someone from the Eastern Continent were summoned, would his identity be exposed?
No! My identity blessing is genuinely real!
Xia Mingyu’s expression turned serious—he had already awakened after learning the world’s common knowledge from the library.
Whether Eastern or Western Continent, as long as every promotion of my identity blessing grants me overpowered abilities like Starfire and Brothers-in-Arms, I am unquestionably the heir of the Fourteen-Empire.
After all, fists are power—I just need time to grow.
Knock knock.
At that moment, the door was gently knocked.
“Your Highness, I have something I wish to discuss with you—may I come in?” Came Kallen’s hesitant voice from outside.
“Of course.” Xia Mingyu opened the door and invited him inside.
“Your Highness…” Kallen looked hesitant, as if struggling with something, unable to speak.
“Speak freely—we are friends.” Seeing this, Xia Mingyu patted his shoulder.
“My son, little Hayden, will hold his Infant Honor Ceremony next month. My wife Danielle’s mother, Martha, the most powerful lord in the Southern Region, has promised to bring all the southern lords to attend. But the godfather’s selection remains undecided.”
Encouraged, Kallen spilled it all out in one breath.
Thud!
Immediately, his towering frame bent sharply, and he knelt before Xia Mingyu on both knees.
“Your Highness, I know this is a foolish dream, but I am a father—I must fight for my child.”
“I beg you—please become Hayden’s godfather.”
“If you agree, no matter how impossible your demand, even if you demand all I possess or even my soul, I will gladly give it to you.”
“Of course, if you refuse, that is entirely reasonable—indeed, expected. I will still revere and respect you as a friend; I only ask you to forgive my impudent, disrespectful request.”
Kallen bowed his head deeply, awaiting judgment.
This man who, in his youth, had slain multiple transcendent knights single-handedly in the “Lion-Dragon War,” now, as a father, had completely abandoned his dignity for his child.
“. Is this really necessary?”
Looking at the man kneeling before him, eyes tightly shut, Xia Mingyu felt momentarily bewildered.
Having just read ‘Detailed Explanation of Noble Blessings,’ he naturally understood that the choice of godfather and his blessing were among the key factors determining the rank of a noble blessing.
So he understood Kallen’s determination to kneel before him for his child’s future.
But could he truly be sure his blessing would even work on little Hayden?
Still, considering Kallen’s care over these many days, and the precious magic crystal Lady Danielle had given him, he didn’t mind giving it a try.
Besides, he had one thing he absolutely wanted Kallen to do.
“Stand up, Kallen.” Xia Mingyu gripped his arms and gently helped him to his feet.
“I can accept your request—but I have a condition.”
“Really?!” Kallen instantly opened his eyes, his mouth stretching uncontrollably wide, his facial muscles twitching wildly as if ants crawled beneath his skin.
Anyone could sense his wild joy.
Slap!
Realizing his expression had spiraled out of control, Kallen slapped himself hard across the face to regain composure.
“Cough… Your Highness, say anything—even if you ask me to slay a dragon, I’ll try!”
Kallen spoke as calmly as he could, but his face remained lit with an uncontainable radiant smile.
Xia Mingyu walked to the bedroom desk, picked up a pen, thought for a moment, then wrote a passage in his notebook.
He tore off the page and handed it to Kallen.
“As long as you swear this oath before me, I will accept your request.”
Kallen received the paper with both hands respectfully, then quickly scanned it.
The paper read:
On my land, no one shall starve from taxes or be sold into slavery; no one shall be forced into prostitution or child prostitution. I shall eradicate all criminal gangs that prey on the weak and abuse power within my domain, ensuring the wicked receive their due and the good live as humans—with full bellies and no oppression.
Kallen: “.”
That’s it?!
He had thought His Highness would ask him to pluck the sun!
Though this might be extremely difficult for some pleasure-seeking or weak lords, for him—it was merely a matter of how many people to kill.
Kallen clenched his teeth tightly, fearing his grin might twist too wide and disgrace him before His Highness.
“Your Highness, give me a month—no, half a month. Then, in the presence of my squire knights, my wife, and my daughter, I shall swear this oath before you.”
Kallen solemnly pledged.
After bidding farewell to His Highness, he strode out of the room with long, decisive steps.
“Hahahahahahaha!”
Once he left the floor where His Highness resided, he burst into uncontrollable laughter.
As he laughed, his body swayed gently, his steps springing involuntarily, as if dancing—he occasionally spun around.
Then he saw his worried old butler peering at him from the corridor’s corner.
“Cough… Xie En, find out how many brothels in Black Wolf Domain force women into prostitution and how many criminal gangs kill without mercy. You must uncover them all within one day.”
Kallen cleared his throat, his tone stern.
“Yes, Viscount.” Old Xie En bowed respectfully.
Though he didn’t understand the reason, the lord’s command was absolute.
“I’m going to… personally slaughter them all!” Kallen snarled.
A torrent of emerald magical energy erupted from him; the murals on both sides of the corridor trembled and swayed—he looked like a demon from hell.
