Chapter 63: This Is Too Radical
The next day.
Before the morning mist had fully cleared, the castle’s training ground was already packed with people.
Hundreds of soldiers clad in leather armor stood in neat rows, gripping iron spears tightly, their gazes fixed straight ahead.
At the front of the formation stood Sir Solin and Sir Lei Mi, the lord’s two personal knights, dressed in gleaming armor.
Before them stood Kallen, clad in pitch-black armor, wielding a black longsword, mounted atop a massive wolf, radiating an aura of terrifying authority.
Behind him rode Lady Danier on a sleek white mare.
“Solin. Lei Mi.” Kallen’s voice was low.
“At your command.” Both knights knelt on one knee.
“Each of you will lead a hundred soldiers to Langyazhen and Yingguo Town. Proceed immediately to the locations provided by Xiao En to apprehend the criminals and bring them all to the Stone Mine Town prison. Do not let a single one escape—if they resist, kill them on the spot!” Kallen ordered.
“Yes, my lord.”
The two knights mounted their horses and led their squads off in separate directions, marching with great fanfare.
“The remaining soldiers, march with me to Stone Mine Town.”
With that, the Black Abyss Wolf carried Kallen forward, followed closely by Danier and the army.
Bedroom
Tap-tap-tap.
The footsteps of hundreds of soldiers woke Xia Mingyu from deep sleep. He rose and pulled back the curtain, just in time to see Kallen riding his black wolf, leading the troops out.
“He proposed this just yesterday morning—and today, he’s already marching out? That’s absurdly efficient!”
Xia Mingyu’s lip twitched. He already guessed the purpose behind Kallen’s military mobilization.
Clearly, the promise to be a godfather held immense appeal for nobles.
Kallen is the type who notices even the hem of Anliya’s dress—he wouldn’t slaughter innocents. If so… phew, phew.
Xia Mingyu rolled over and went back to sleep.
Yingguo Town.
Silver Lily Brothel.
Customers and brothel enforcers were dragged out by soldiers who stormed in like wolves, beaten with clubs if they hesitated, then forced to crouch on the ground with hands behind their heads.
They had no thought of resistance—anyone with eyes could see the soldiers’ fine leather armor and the elite knight in full armor leading them. This meant the order came directly from the lord.
And the lord held supreme authority in Black Wolf Domain.
“Sir Solin, I’ve never demanded repayment for your debts here. For the sake of that favor, please let me go.”
The doorkeeper pleaded desperately.
Upon hearing this, Sir Solin narrowed his eyes.
As the lord’s most loyal retainer, he had a hunch about the true reason for this operation—it seemed tied to that supreme prince.
If so—
“Fine, I’ll let you go.” Sir Solin forced a stiff smile, then led the ecstatic doorkeeper toward the distant bushes.
Soon after, he returned alone, seemingly unperturbed—except his hands were now streaked with fresh blood.
Golden Jasmine Brothel. Tulip Brothel. Purple Iris Brothel.
The same scene unfolded nearly simultaneously across every brothel in Black Wolf Domain.
Stone Mine Town.
Inside a luxurious villa.
Eli Hughes, boss of the Wolf Gang and Hawk’s lord, had just woken from the arms of two beautiful maids, only to stare in confusion as hundreds of spear-wielding soldiers surrounded his villa, blocking every exit.
Leading them, clad in pitch-black armor, was his uncle—the very man who had killed his father—the Dawnstar Knight, “The Howling Wolf,” Kallen Hughes.
Eli: “???”
He’d merely opened a few brothels and formed a small gang—why would the lord mobilize troops to crush him personally?
He paid his taxes every year!
Given Kallen’s overwhelming power, Eli had long since buried his father’s murder, content to live off noble protection, indulging in pleasure, wine, and women—even when his own retainer was killed days ago, he dared not seek revenge.
Boom! Boom!
Before he could make sense of it, soldiers smashed through the door and dragged him—wearing only shorts—before the lord.
“Uncle, what have I done to deserve this?”
“If you fear I’ll seek revenge, I swear by the gods—I no longer consider my father my father.”
Eli trembled with fear.
Though he’d killed many, now that his own life hung in another’s hands, terror gripped him utterly.
“By the Sun and the God of Justice, I, Eli Hughes—”
“Enough, enough.” Kallen interrupted his oath with a complex expression.
“Take him to the dungeon.” Kallen glanced at Danier, who watched with predatory intent, and sighed in resignation.
“Uncle! Uncle! I’m your own nephew!”
Ignoring Eli’s screams, the soldiers dragged him away.
“Oh, Kallen, he’s your own nephew! The blood of the Hughes family!”
Frank Hughes, the hastily arrived mayor of Stone Mine Town, watched Eli being hauled off to the dungeon, his face flushed with rage.
He was the younger brother and right-hand man of the late Viscount Hughes, and Kallen’s own uncle.
At sixty, he had devoted his entire life to the Hughes family and had raised both Kallen and his elder brother. Even now that Kallen was lord, he was always treated with deep respect.
“Kallen, how can you be so cruel? You drove young Eli out of the castle once—now are you going to kill him too?”
“We Hughes have so few direct bloodlines left!”
Frank clutched Kallen’s arm, pleading desperately.
His uncle’s plea moved Kallen slightly—but Danier’s eyes narrowed again.
One nephew doesn’t carry enough weight. But if you add an uncle too… wouldn’t that better demonstrate our devotion to the prince?
After all, they weren’t her nephew or uncle. Dead would be better—freeing up positions for her loyalists.
“Uncle Frank, judging by your words, Eli must have received a great deal of your care?” Danier smiled sweetly.
“Of course! When that boy was cast out alone, if I hadn’t treated him like my own son, how could he have ever taken control of every brothel in Black Wolf Domain and founded the Wolf Gang?”
Frank didn’t notice the trap Danier had laid—or perhaps he simply didn’t think of it that way. After all, running brothels and forming gangs was normal for nobles, wasn’t it?
Besides, it was a way to increase tax revenue. Many shadowy affairs couldn’t be handled by the noble lord himself—he needed a black glove. That was Eli’s role in Frank’s eyes.
Hearing this, Danier whispered a few words to Kallen. His expression instantly turned to shock as he stared at her.
“Uncle Frank, please turn around—Eli has…” Danier trailed off.
Frank spun around in panic—but before he could see anything, a heavy blow struck the back of his head. His vision went black as he collapsed to the ground.
The great purge lasted three full days. Not only brothel enforcers and gang members, but even street thugs and ruffians who picked fights were tossed into Stone Mine Town’s dungeon like dumplings.
The massive dungeon was now packed to bursting with criminals.
They screamed and struggled, utterly bewildered—why had the lord gone mad?
How could a domain exist without brothels and gangs? This was too radical!
