Chapter 194: Merging with the Xia Family_1
The bodyguards all wore expressions of unbearable pain.
Even they didn’t know what had just happened.
They had been about to make a move on Yin Tian when they felt a slight sting in their legs, followed immediately by an involuntary drop to their knees.
After kneeling, they all felt their legs go numb, and found themselves unable to stand back up.
Xia Dongguang’s face was incredibly unsightly as he yelled at the bodyguards to no avail, making himself look even more like a joke.
As for the other people present, they were all completely at a loss, clueless about what had just taken place.
Yin Tian stood with his hands behind his back, looking at Old Mr. Xia next to him with a surprised expression and let out a sigh, "Old Mr. Xia, is this really the Xia Family that you want to uphold?"
"I really can’t understand, why does such a family deserve your protection? You went to great lengths to seek me out for the so-called ’main family,’ but look at these people..."
Yin Tian raised his hand, sweeping his finger over the crowd, "These people, are they worth it? Do they deserve it?"
The faces of the people from the Xia Family main house were extremely unsightly.
Yin Tian’s words were like a harsh slap to their faces!
"Hmph!"
Xia Dongguang snorted coldly but said nothing.
Old Mr. Xia stood there with a similarly dark expression, though he did not speak.
Tap!
A crisp sound echoed.
That sound immediately revitalized the spirits of the Xia Family members.
How could they not recognize what that sound was?
Tap!
The sound came again.
Soon, they saw an elderly lady with silvery hair, leaning on a cane, assisted by a young girl as she walked into the receiving hall.
Yin Tian slightly turned his head, taking a glance at the old lady and made his judgment.
The actual authority of the Xia Family!
Old Madam Xia!
"Second brother, this young man you’ve brought here seems to have quite some complaints about our Xia Family," Old Madam Xia said, looking at Old Mr. Xia and speaking slowly.
Her voice wasn’t loud, but it was full of authority, betraying the strong woman she must have been in her youth.
Old Mr. Xia also looked at Old Madam Xia but did not immediately respond. He hesitated for a moment before speaking, "So, do you also think what these younger generations are doing is right?"
Playing dumb, Old Madam Xia inquired, "Second brother, what do you mean? I don’t understand."
"You don’t understand?"
Old Mr. Xia was so angered he had to laugh, "You wouldn’t be unaware of the way these people treated me when I returned to the main house yesterday, would you? Or could it be that you instructed them to act that way?"
"Previously, when the main house was robbed, you came to me for help. Did I ever show the slightest reluctance? For the main house, I destroyed everything my family had worked to build over three generations. Now, I’m even willing to return to the main house, to be an idle, despised old man."
"What I want to ask you now is, in your heart, is there really a difference between the main family and the branch family in the Xia Family?"
Old Mr. Xia had not intended to bring this matter up for public discussion.
But now that things had developed to this point, he had no choice but to discuss the matter thoroughly with Old Madam Xia.
"Is this matter really so important?"
Old Madam Xia countered.
"Isn’t it important?"
Yin Tian suddenly let out a light laugh, "Are your descendants somehow nobler than Old Mr. Xia’s children? Throughout this whole journey, I have not seen a shred of respect for Old Mr. Xia in any of them."
"Even a grandson dares to be reckless with his grandfather, letting the old man stand outside on his own, what kind of grandson does that? If he treated you the same way, what would you think?"
"Insolence!"
Seizing the opportunity, Xia Dongguang pointed at Yin Tian and rebuked loudly, "Yin Tian, this is my Xia Family’s affair. What does it have to do with you?"
"I am the son-in-law of the Xia Family," Yin Tian said indifferently.
The statement caught Xia Dongguang off guard, leaving him speechless.
He had forgotten that Yin Tian was betrothed to Xia Nianbing, and though they weren’t yet married, considering himself a son-in-law of the Xia Family was not entirely unreasonable.
Old Madam Xia slowly turned her head to look at Yin Tian, "You’re quite blunt, young man, but you do have a point," she said.
"The Xia Family is one entity. Let’s do away with this main and branch family distinction from now on."
"Second brother, according to seniority, is your second elder. From now on, if I hear of anyone disrespecting the second elder, they’ll face the family discipline."
Old Mr. Xia did not expect Old Madam Xia to give in so easily.
He looked at Old Madam Xia and spoke again, "In that case, there’s another matter I’d like to discuss."
"What is it?"
"Since from now on the Xia Family won’t be divided into main and branch families, I’ve heard that the position of the heir has not yet been established."
Old Mr. Xia spoke slowly, his voice unwavering.
"I believe my granddaughter Nianbing is the most suitable."
