Chapter 90: Uniform Temptation

~9 min read 1,632 words

A successful, respected, and admirable boss must lead by example.

When clearing land and hunting beasts, you must be the first to strike.

In battle, you must charge forward first.

Even when playing the decoy, you must go first.

Cang Luo looked at the men around him and said solemnly: “Brother Wang, Brother Zhao, Brother Zang, and all my brothers—the War Wolf BBQ is vital to the future of the War Wolf Gang.

Today is our first day of business, and it’s crucial. We must make War Wolf BBQ a roaring success, fill every seat in the house.”

Everyone nodded, but Wang Fuhai looked embarrassed: “Boss, I’ve never played a decoy before—I don’t know how!”

Wang Fuhai had never played a decoy; his family ran silk and apparel businesses in Danyang County, and the uniforms for Yin Mengruo, Xiang Yunjiao, the BBQ chefs, and servers were all made by his family’s tailors—though designed by Cang Luo.

But he had never sold a single garment in his life and knew nothing about marketing.

Cang Feng was also uneasy; though he usually acted mature, he had never done anything so deceitful—he was only fifteen or sixteen.

Zhao Renwu chuckled beside him: “What’s hard about it? Whatever the boss does, we just copy him.”

As he spoke, he casually glanced around, puzzled: After so many days, why hadn’t Zhang Zhen or Lie Tian Gang come to cause trouble?

Cang Luo nodded: “Brother Zhao is right. I’ll go first—you watch closely, learn, then follow quickly, and act natural.”

With that, Cang Luo walked a full circle, pretending to stroll the street as if nothing mattered.

This street was called Tianmen Street, the busiest in Xuantian Town.

To the east, it led straight to the outer gate of the Xuantian Sect—the only path for disciples entering or leaving.

To the west, it pointed toward Danyang County.

To the north lay the Beast Forest; warriors of all kinds passed through Tianmen Street on their way to train.

To the south was the Xuantian Sect’s yuan stone mine, also heavily trafficked.

Logically, with such heavy foot traffic—mostly warriors and business elites—this should be a prime spot for business.

But in reality, not a single person had entered War Wolf BBQ to spend money. Though passersby paused to stare, curious about the new shop, they shook their heads and walked away once they saw it sold food.

Cang Luo watched from afar, puzzled—then immediately spotted the problem.

He noticed not a single shop along Tianmen Street sold food; all were weapon shops, elixir shops, and the like.

Cang Luo slapped his forehead—he understood.

On the Yuanwu Continent, martial prowess reigned supreme; only things tied to cultivation mattered. Food, entertainment—these were secondary, never opened on this street.

Xuantian Town’s taverns and restaurants were all clustered near Danyang County to the west. Almost everyone on Tianmen Street was a warrior—either heading to the Beast Forest or returning to the Xuantian Sect.

They needed weapons to kill, elixirs to heal—who would stop here to eat or sleep?

Cang Luo realized his mistake—he should have noticed this earlier. But then he thought: perhaps this was an opportunity. No one else does food? That doesn’t mean it can’t be done. The key is marketing.

With that thought, Cang Luo hurried to War Wolf BBQ, glanced at the sign above the door—“War Wolf BBQ” in stylized characters—and nodded firmly. Then he looked at Yin Mengruo and Xiang Yunjiao, standing at the entrance, looking awkward.

Cang Luo frowned slightly and whispered: “Take off your aprons. My uniforms weren’t designed to be hidden—they’re meant to be seen.”

He turned to the five female servers and added: “And you five—take off your aprons too.”

The seven girls reluctantly peeled off their aprons. As soon as they did, Cang Luo’s eyes lit up.

His design was Earth-style: Yin Mengruo and Xiang Yunjiao wore deep purple flight attendant uniforms, snug and form-fitting, perfectly highlighting their figures. The two blushed, too shy to look at Cang Luo.

The five servers wore classic black-and-white maid uniforms; all five were attractive, and now dressed as maids, they radiated extra allure.

Cang Luo stared at them, swallowed hard—uniform allure!

No wonder no one came in—it was all because of you...

Suddenly, Cang Luo wondered: Could he promote Earth-style uniforms? Wang Fuhai’s family sold clothes—perfect. He’d find a chance to talk to him.

Cang Luo nodded to himself, then suddenly shouted in mock surprise: “Whoa! Beautiful women!”

Passersby turned to stare at him—then followed his gaze to Yin Mengruo, Xiang Yunjiao, and the five maids.

Their eyes widened. They stopped walking, openly sizing up the girls, faces wearing the universal expression men understood.

Their outfits were eye-catching—unlike anything seen before: youthful, seductive, alluring...

The girls felt uneasy, lowering their heads.

Cang Luo cleared his throat, stepped forward to the register, and called out loudly: “War Wolf BBQ! Two skewers of bone-and-meat, made from first-rank beast spear-pig meat!”

Then he whispered: “Don’t be afraid—be bold. This is Xuantian Sect territory. They’ll just look—they won’t dare do anything. Looking won’t cost you a single piece of flesh.”

The two girls still looked nervous, but Yin Mengruo recovered first. She smiled: “Two skewers of spear-pig bone-and-meat. Please come inside—it’ll be ready soon.”

Cang Luo nodded, stepped inside, and signaled to the War Wolf Gang members nearby—hurry up.

Meanwhile, his skewers began grilling, flames roaring. As salt, pepper, and seasonings were sprinkled, the mouthwatering aroma of charcoal-grilled meat spread.

Passersby lingering near the shop sniffed the air, turning their eyes to the sizzling skewers.

Someone licked his lips: “Smells great! Looks delicious.”

Another nodded: “Yeah, spear-pig meat. Not hungry, but maybe I’ll have some?”

As they hesitated, the War Wolf Gang decoys appeared. Zhao Renwu pulled out a folding fan from nowhere, posing with elegant charm.

He gazed lovingly at Yin Mengruo: “I’ll have... two skewers of bone-and-meat, one grilled oyster, one grilled eggplant, and a jar of fine wine.”

Yin Mengruo smiled and gestured for Zhao Renwu to sit.

The others followed suit, ordering heavily and taking seats. The empty War Wolf BBQ was now seventy percent full, buzzing with activity.

Passersby who had hesitated outside now entered and ordered too—but their interest wasn’t the food. Their eyes kept sneaking glances at the maids in uniform...

Soon, Cang Luo’s skewers were done. A maid in uniform respectfully placed them before him and bowed.

Cang Luo nodded, tossed down a low-grade yuan stone, and smiled: “For you.”

The maid thanked him quickly.

Zhao Renwu and the others froze—do we have to give tips? We didn’t bring any! What now?

Everyone instinctively looked at Wang Fuhai—the deputy boss in charge of finances—he must have money.

Wang Fuhai nodded awkwardly—he did have money, but... we’re decoys. Will this tip be returned later?

As Wang Fuhai agonized over the cost, a real customer at a nearby table burst out laughing: “Girls, this is the boss’s tip!”

Five low-grade yuan stones flew through the air and landed precisely in the hands of the five maids.

Two more stones followed, landing in Yin Mengruo’s and Xiang Yunjiao’s hands.

The customer boomed: “Your shop just opened—we’re here to support you. If your service is good and the food tasty, we’ll come back!”

The girls froze, forgetting to thank him. The boss’s tip had to be returned—but these... these customers’ tips didn’t need to be, right?

Cang Luo took a bite of his skewer and gasped: “Holy shit! So good! The meat’s crisp and fresh, and the yuan energy hasn’t leaked out at all!

This is what warriors should eat! What the hell was I eating before?

Jerky? Buns?

I risked my life in the Beast Forest, and I ate that junk?”

With Cang Luo’s exclamation, the others’ orders began arriving—grilled meat, garlic, wine—aromas filling the air.

Everyone drooled. Suddenly, Cang Luo’s words made perfect sense: Warriors never knew when they’d die. Eat well while you’re alive.

The next moment, everyone—including the decoys—began devouring meat and gulping wine, grease dripping from their lips, mouths red.

“Delicious! So satisfying!”

One customer grinned: “This garlic grilled eggplant is amazing! Five more, and two more jars of wine!”

“I want some too...”

Cang Luo egged them on: “Beauty! Pack ten grilled oysters! Oysters boost yang energy—I’m heading to Yichun Garden later...”

A nearby customer blinked: “Grilled oysters boost yang energy?”

He immediately shouted: “Girl! Give me a hundred! Tonight, I’m conquering Yihong Garden!”

Cang Luo immediately gave a thumbs-up: “Brother, mighty! Ten women a night? Easy!”

“Hah! Of course!” the man laughed proudly. “Brother, your oysters are on me!”

Cang Luo froze, then stood and bowed.

The man waved it off, continuing to drink and eat.

These middle-aged warriors, stuck between Wu Shi and Wu Ling realms, had no other talent—just plenty of idle cash, which they spent fast.

When broke, they’d head into the Beast Forest. If they survived, they’d keep living large.

If they didn’t? They’d still live large—their brothers burned paper money for them...

Everyone ate, drank, and laughed. Cang Luo signaled to the War Wolf Gang—take skewers outside, spread the word, and vacate your seats.

Soon, the decoys dwindled. Real customers flooded in.

Partly because the BBQ was delicious. Partly because of Yin Mengruo, Xiang Yunjiao, and the maids’ uniforms.

Cang Luo expected trouble—someone flirting with the maids, maybe—but nothing happened.

This was Xuantian Sect territory. The Sect held partial tax rights over Xuantian Town, and its Enforcement Hall disciples patrolled nearby. No one dared cause trouble.

Business would only grow. Cang Luo exhaled—time to leave. He’d go to the Beast Forest and subdue his second beast!

He rose to leave, grabbing the packed ten grilled oysters.

Xiang Yunjiao suddenly asked: “Brother Luo... you really are going to Yichun Garden?”

Cang Luo flushed: “I was joking...”
