Chapter 143: Voice
"What did you say?!"
"Mr. Patrick and the injured personnel of the Security Corps were taken to St. Mungo's by the disposal personnel of the Department of Magical Accidents and Disasters. They let the Muggle side control public opinion by saying it was an explosion accident… but it didn't work very well. Mr. Patrick was on the cover of Time magazine. After yesterday's launch, he received global attention, and the fact that his home was attacked simply couldn't be suppressed…"
But Murphy didn't care about public opinion. "How is Patrick? How is his family?"
"Mr. Patrick had his throat torn open. When the Aurors and the disposal personnel of the Department of Magical Accidents and Disasters arrived, he was already unconscious and dying, but they managed to block his wounds first. It is said that he is still unconscious…" 【14
"As for Mr. Patrick's family, Mrs. Audrey was scratched by a werewolf, but she is not in life-threatening danger."
"What about Ares? Is Patrick's son alright?"
"They did not find Ares; the Aurors speculate that the werewolf took the child away..."
Murphy stood up abruptly, "What did you say?"
"Director, you..."
Murphy did not wait for her to finish, suddenly vanishing by Apparition.
He arrived on the second floor of St. Mungo's, and as soon as he materialized, he saw several Aurors guarding the door of a ward, and the Auror Captain standing there happened to be an acquaintance of his.
Kingsley Shacklebolt saw Murphy walking over with long strides and reached out to block him, "Aurors are on duty; unauthorized personnel are not allowed to enter this ward."
Several Aurors also blocked Murphy's path.
"Move," Murphy said, "I don't have time to waste with you here."
"Do you have any connection to those Muggles who were bitten? Murphy? If you admit that you have ties to the Umbrella Corporation, I can let you in. Or are you going to keep lying even at this moment?"
Murphy turned his gaze to look at Kingsley.
In one part of his consciousness, he clearly understood that Kingsley was trying to bait him; this was a trap. By linking himself to Umbrella, he could gradually prove that he had violated the Wizarding Secrecy Act.
Kingsley had become smarter and also more unscrupulous.
He had realized that to deal with Murphy, he had to be more cunning and have fewer bottom lines than Murphy himself. Only at this moment could he break through Murphy's mental defenses and make him tell the truth.
The righteous Auror Captain of the past would have been unlikely to do such a thing.
But in another part of his consciousness, he only felt it was noisy.
"Kingsley, move aside!"
"Patrick Duncan," Kingsley looked at the file in his hand, "Vice President of the Umbrella Group, President of Isis Pharmaceuticals and the Camelot Group, Chairman of the Board of Zhi Zi Technology—your Muggle proxy. Is he your friend? Or do you merely treat him as a pawn that can be discarded at any time? Just like that nameless corpse?"
"Do you know, Murphy, this is the price of your violation of the Wizarding Secrecy Act."
"It was you who brought this disaster upon him!"
"Dark Wizard!" an Auror sneered.
"Would he have friends? Would he care if others live or die? It's just crocodile tears."
"Go back to your lair."
"I guess he must know many of your secrets," Kingsley said. "If we use Veritaserum on him, everything you've done will be exposed."
"So, are you here to visit your friend? Or to kill him to silence him?"
Kill him to silence him?
No, Kingsley didn't truly believe that.
He must have conducted a detailed investigation; he knew Patrick was important to Murphy, he knew Murphy and the other man had a good relationship, and he knew that by standing here at this moment and saying such things, he could certainly make Murphy furious.
He was just trying to provoke Murphy.
Reason said: Don't fall for their trap.
However, anger said: Ha! Fuck it!
He glared at Kingsley, and a strange change occurred within his eyes; his pupils turned into funnel-shaped double pupils, the large one like a deep well, while the small one was like a black star, and the iris seemed like a swirling galaxy of billions of stars.
In an instant, the knowledge about hypnosis from the library flashed through his mind, and jumping out along with it were the research results of the Mind Research Group on the Imperius Curse and the Soul Seed.
When he spoke again, his voice seemed to have undergone countless repetitions and vibrations, filling the entire space, making everything tremble and roar, submitting to that voice.
"Move aside!"
He said, his voice deafening.
Time seemed to stand still for a moment, and then, Kingsley nodded and stepped aside.
"You cannot barge in! This is St. Mungo's, oh! It's you!" Hippocrates recognized Murphy, "Get out! You are not welcome here..."
"Bang!" Murphy knocked the quack doctor aside with a punch.
There was an intern healer nearby, also a young girl, who was trembling as she looked at him, "I, I don't know anything, I'm new here..."
"Do you have any rope?" Murphy asked directly, ignoring her.
"W-what?"
Forget it, Murphy tore off a bedsheet, drew his wand, used the Severing Charm to tear it into strips, and then used a Transfiguration spell to join them end-to-end, forming a long rope.
Then he went to check on Patrick; fortunately, he was still breathing, and Audrey's breathing was even steadier, but there were several bloody claw marks on her face and neck.
In addition, there were the members of the Muggle Security Corps; they were all Patrick's bodyguards, totaling twenty-three members, fourteen of whom were lying in hospital beds. They had all been hit with the Stunning Spell, and their injuries varied; although the bleeding had been stopped, they had not yet healed.
The other nine were lying on the floor on the other side, their bodies already cold; their injuries were much more severe, with some having half their necks bitten off.
Murphy frowned, and in silence, he waved his wand. Everyone, including the corpses, was neatly arranged on the floor by him, and then he used the rope to tie them all up.
St. Mungo's could not cure werewolf bites at all; the remaining wounded left here would either gamble with their lives and become werewolves, or die.
Murphy had to take them to the Magic Research Institute.
He glanced at the intern healer again, "You, what is your name?"
"Va-Valya Oster."
"Valya, would you like to work in a better place?"
"No, I don't really want to, sir..." Valya shook her head in fear, "I want to stay at St. Mungo's, okay, sir?"
"Sorry, I'm afraid you don't have a choice." Murphy cast a Portkey spell on the rope with his wand and said to Valya, "Go and grab the rope."
The fact that he had barged into a St. Mungo's ward and taken away all the Muggles bitten by werewolves could not be hidden at all.
He didn't take Valya away to prevent her from leaking information, but because he felt that to treat so many patients, relying on Elodie, the only healer currently at the Magic Research Institute, might be too much for her to handle.
Valya burst into tears, but she obediently grabbed the rope.
This man had even knocked out the Chief Healer; how could she dare to say no?
Thanks to Long Qi Cang Mang for the tip, thank you for the support~
