Chapter 187
Valery Lermontov opened his eyes wide in shock.
So that's it!
Things, could actually be so simple!
The shadow that had always been hanging over his heart seemed to dissipate just like that.
In the work that confused right and wrong, black and white, loyalty and betrayal, he could always feel a strong sense of tearing.
What exactly am I loyal to?
Does what I do really help the motherland?
They always say they want to fight.
But what exactly am I fighting against?
The technical data obtained through life and death only allowed a high-ranking official's company to obtain better bargaining chips.
The so-called "traitors" executed by his own hands were just victims who stood on the wrong side in the power struggle.
His family worked hard, couldn't even buy a meal of meat, while those officials, like capitalists, occupied countless assets without working.
The red faith he forged in the fire was so out of place with this world.
He originally thought that one of them must be wrong.
But Murphy told him, no, you just thought of a problem that was originally complex as too simple.
It's not the world that's wrong, nor is it your faith.
It's because the world is not a whole; it runs on new rules and is dominated by old forces.
What conflicts with faith is not your own motherland, not the party, not the KGB, but just one by one, people who are clearly no longer comrades but still disguise themselves as comrades, relying on power and status to keep sucking blood.
Suddenly, black and white were separated, and the enemy and us were clear.
Valery felt refreshed.
But then, another panic.
"This isn't Murphy's brainwashing method, right? Could this be the magic he mentioned that changes will?"
"Bullshit magic!" Murphy read this thought and laughed, "Are you not sure about your own faith?"
"Maybe what I think now is just what you let me think." Valery said.
However, he just said it and didn't continue to dwell on this problem.
The point is, his thoughts now are indeed clear.
But the problem is, "Why are you telling me this?"
Why... I can't say I also come from a piece of red land...
Murphy thought for a while, "Do you want the Soviet people to live a good life?"
"What do you want to do?" Valery became vigilant again.
"What I want has never changed; magic research needs a bigger stage, and the Magic Research Institute is too cramped and narrow; I want it to slowly walk from behind the scenes to the front. This requires the support of strong social forces, at least the endorsement of a country."
Valery's brows furrowed deeper, "You are British."
"The British are not good enough." Murphy didn't shy away, "Military power is not good enough, can't beat others; no matter how good things are, they will be snatched away by others sooner or later."
"Isn't this treason?"
"Just said it, this wealth belongs to all mankind."
"But you are afraid of being snatched away by others..."
"The Americans won't give it to all mankind if they snatch it."
"Fine." Valery was convinced.
"But I still don't understand what you want me to do."
"It's not what I want you to do," Murphy said, "What's important is, if you love your motherland, it's time to do something for it."
"What do you mean?"
Murphy raised his wand, "Letting you see it directly will be clearer. Memory Copy!"
This is a spell he created himself, combining Total Recall and Copy Spell, which can copy a memory or knowledge and pass it to others; it can copy other people's memories for himself, or copy his own memories to others.
He originally studied memory copying to better absorb more knowledge, but after brain enhancement, he could easily master most knowledge with his learning ability; if he needed specific professional deeper experience, he could at most read the memory of that part in the other party's mind through Legilimency, and didn't really need the copying step.
So now the use of memory copying has basically become his channel for outputting memories, such as implanting false memories into Albert Runcorn after memory wiping before.
Now, he is instilling a series of facts he knows about the future dissolution of the Soviet Union, as well as its future consequences, into Valery.
"As a reform and reconstruction plan, society has gained true freedom."
"……"
"The dissolution of the Soviet Union is the most serious geopolitical disaster of the 20th century; for the Russian people, it is a true tragedy."
"……exhausted in political and socio-economic turmoil, upheaval, and radical reforms... society is on the verge of collapse, economically, politically, psychologically, and spiritually..."
"Forgive us, Father. We lost the country to a group of swindlers and traitors."
……
Valery was in tears; he saw countless citizens displaced and hungry, his great motherland falling apart, becoming a tragedy and a laughingstock.
He saw vultures pecking at the flesh and blood of giants, eating until they were fat, taking away the wealth that should have belonged to the people, and then snatching away the last bit of bread in the people's hands.
Seeing the Soviet people struggling hard for ten or twenty years, yet still unable to regain their former glory.
Seeing that in the more than thirty years to come, they were still being bullied and suppressed, but no longer had the capital to contend.
"The red flag falls, the Soviet Union dissolves."
For people thousands of miles away, this was just an unbelievable piece of news, but falling on the heads of the Soviet people, it was a heavy destiny that could crush their spines.
"This is the future." Murphy said, "And in just a few months, it will become a complete reality."
Valery looked at the absurd yet incredibly real future images in his mind, "What can I do? How can I save my motherland?"
"The fragmentation of the Soviet Union is an extremely complex subject; economic problems are overwhelming, corruption is rampant within the political system, ethnic separatist sentiments are serious, and the core problem is that bourgeois law has not been taken seriously... none of them can be solved in a short while. Wanting to save this huge country requires long-term reform and recovery."
"But, for now, the most important thing might be to give it a few shots of adrenaline to keep it alive first."
In fact, it's already too late; under the drive of the general trend, even the strongest adrenaline might just turn into a death warrant.
But, one has to try; treating a dead horse as a living one is better than standing by and letting it perish on its own, right?
Released, changed, might not be smooth, but that's it, everyone don't talk about politics, thank you~
