Chapter 469: Only Death
Morrigan was dazzled. Although there were a lot of terms in Murphy's explanation that she didn't quite understand, she understood the overall meaning: the Magic Net could help gods communicate with believers to obtain more and higher-quality faith power!
This was indeed a major pain point for the gods. Communication with believers was indeed very easy to create deep believers and even fanatical believers, which had many benefits for enhancing their own divine power. But gods also had their own lives and needed to enjoy themselves. Where would they have so much time and energy to listen to the trivialities of those mortals?
And it was true as Murphy said, bestowing miracles was too troublesome. Often, a large amount of divine power was paid here, but only a tiny bit fell on the believers, and it could even only create a plausible illusion, with extremely low efficiency and poor effects.
So much so that most gods were not very willing to respond to prayers, and even used the excuse that the will of God is hard to fathom.
But what if all these troubles were solved?
The Magic Net could help wizards use magic by controlling magic power. Divine power was similar to it. Perhaps the Magic Net could really do these things as he said?
If so, the role of the Magic Net was even more important than imagined!
But in the excitement, the remaining vigilance still made the goddess question, "You are not a god, how can you understand these things so clearly and be able to do such things?"
Murphy frowned, as if he had been mentioned something unpleasant. "The power of the Christian God is not without reason. And although I was not successfully converted by him, I still caught a glimpse of some of his abilities."
Murphy bluffed casually, attributing the source of the technology to the Christian God. Anyway, as mortal enemies, these gods could not go to the other party to verify it.
Morrigan nodded, accepting Murphy's answer.
Then she thought of another question. "What is the price? Such powerful power cannot possibly have no price."
Murphy smiled. It was good that she hadn't completely lost her mind. "Whether it is communicating with believers or bestowing miracles, it requires the gods' divine power as a foundation, otherwise, it is impossible to establish a characteristic channel, so some divine power needs to be paid as support, but this is just a rootless tree and will not last long."
"The best way to use the Magic Net requires investing a portion of divinity into it. This portion of divinity is like the principal of doing business, which will continuously bring high-yield returns to the gods."
In a lush courtyard, the King of Gods, Dagda, took the wine glass handed by the goddess Morrigan and asked, "How is it?"
"He didn't lie. Believers are increasing, divine power is growing, and even divinity has become more condensed. I am becoming more powerful than ever before. Perhaps... I will soon become even more powerful than you."
The goddess smiled, but there was a clear provocation in her eyes.
Dagda laughed loudly. "If that day comes, what if you become this King of Gods?"
After he finished speaking, he drank the wine in the cup. "Since the Magic Net is so easy to use, let him build more quickly. The Christian God hasn't left yet, and those guys from the north have come again. There are invaders everywhere on this land, and we must become powerful quickly."
"Why, do you have any concerns?"
The goddess nodded slightly, her hoarse voice saying, "The Magic Net can be used not only by us. If others discover the secret of the Magic Net, they can use it too."
"Then kill everyone who knows the secret," Dagda said.
"But we still need those wizards to build more Magic Nets," Morrigan reminded.
"Then keep them in captivity."
Morrigan nodded. This was also her original idea. "There is one more point. That Merlin, I don't trust him. The Magic Net was created by him alone. Perhaps he left more arrangements in it, and with him around, those wizards might not necessarily listen to us."
"Get rid of him!" Dagda said. "Isn't he teaching those wizards how to build the Magic Net? Once he teaches them, he will be useless. Kill him."
Murphy sat on a rock on the top of the mountain, with thirteen disciples standing in front of him.
"Remember, the Magic Net is your qualification to settle down, and knowledge is the foundation of your life."
"As long as you still master the technology to build the Magic Net, the gods can only win you over. They might imprison you, enslave you, or keep you in captivity, but they will not kill you. Only by living can you talk about other things, and the Magic Net will give you the qualification to live."
"But, don't just live."
"Go explore, go learn, go train. I have already taught you how to use the Magic Net, and I have also left enough knowledge in the Magic Net. Go master those technologies that the gods disdain to master, learn those knowledge that the gods are impatient to learn, and then use them to strengthen yourself."
"Relying on external objects cannot last long. But, you can internalize it into your own power."
"Finally, you must leave here."
"Don't stay in one place, disperse, and go to farther places. If you need to seek shelter, don't just put all your eggs in one basket. There are many gods on this land. If you only take refuge with one side, the remaining gods will view you as a threat and an enemy. But if you don't join any side, you may be able to gain some freedom."
"Teacher, are you leaving?" a wizard asked.
"The Magic Net involves huge things. As long as I live for one day, the gods will not be able to sleep or eat in peace," Murphy smiled. "So I must die."
If they don't kill him, the creator of the Magic Net, how can the gods dare to honestly invest their life-related divinity into the Magic Net?
Only when he dies will this trap look like a piece of honey.
After speaking, Murphy looked at one of the disciples. "Vivian, you can call them over."
The witch's face was full of panic. "No, teacher, I, I didn't..."
"I don't blame you. The power of the gods is too powerful, and those whose will is not firm enough are easily subdued."
Now the wizards understood. Vivian betrayed the teacher. She knew the gods wanted to kill the teacher, and even tipped them off.
"Vivian! You traitor!" the wizards scolded the witch angrily.
But Murphy's expression was calm. "In the future, more betrayers will appear among you. This is human nature. But don't be scared by the darkness on the road ahead, and don't give up hope for the light. Go, take your followers and leave here. They are about to arrive."
"Teacher, I won't go. I want to stay and help you!" a wizard said loudly.
Murphy smiled. "Keep your useful body and wait for the right time."
After speaking, he waved his hand, and vortices of space distortion appeared beside everyone, wrapping them in and then teleporting them away.
On the other side, Vivian suddenly hugged her head and let out a miserable howl, as if something was drilling into her mind.
Before long, her wailing stopped, and the witch stood up with blood flowing from her eyes. Then, several vast auras gathered from all over, and something like a large pot covered down from the air, trapping Murphy in the center.
The witch made Morrigan's voice. "Since you knew we wanted to kill you, why didn't you run?"
"Run? Where to run? Until when? And why run?"
Murphy smiled. "Although I have prepared to die in battle, I never said I would be captured without a fight."
"Everyone, are you prepared to be buried with me?"
