Chapter 790

~5 min read 901 words

Harry's eyes widened.

"These aren't important. Today is the day of Buckbeak's execution.

I was worried that you and Darren would go to see Buckbeak, so I kept watching that map.

Sure enough, you really went... I kept watching carefully, worried that you would encounter danger.

However, when I watched you come back, there was an extra companion with you, someone I never expected.

I thought he should have been dead, but they had been following you all along!"

Lupin paced back and forth.

The expression on his face was filled with anger.

Harry and Ron and the others found it incredible. They hadn't felt anyone following them at all.

What person who was already dead?

They had no idea.

There were only the four of them.

"What are you talking nonsense about? There were only us..."

Harry said irritably.

But Lupin ignored him completely. He interrupted Harry and said, "I thought the map had malfunctioned, and then the black dot representing Sirius Black rushed out, and he took two of you away..."

"It was one, it was Ron!"

Harry corrected him.

Lupin still ignored him.

Lupin looked at Ron and said, "Ron, can you let me see your rat?"

"It's just a rat, what could it possibly have to do with this matter?"

Ron muttered.

But he still took his rat out.

Scabbers was struggling violently in his hand; it seemed terrified of Lupin.

Lupin looked down at the rat in Ron's hand, and then he said calmly, "Hello, Peter Pettigrew."

Lupin's words made everyone present show an expression of disbelief.

"Ha, how is that possible? What lies are you going to make up now? Peter Pettigrew was killed by him long ago!"

Harry pointed at Black.

Black's face twisted, and he lunged at Scabbers.

"I want to kill him, I didn't kill him at all before; if I had killed him, I would never have broken out of prison!"

He struggled to kill Peter Pettigrew, but Lupin held him back.

"Sirius, you must explain it clearly to them, and also, Harry should know the truth..."

He said, and then he took Scabbers.

Ron and the others found it absolutely incredible.

"How could it be? What kind of trick are you playing?"

Ron said irritably.

He even wanted to leave.

But Lupin stopped him with his wand.

"Listen to me, let me tell you everything... this is Peter Pettigrew, there is no doubt about it!"

"Impossible, Peter Pettigrew died long ago, a whole street of people saw him die... I looked up information about him in books.

And I also checked all registered Animagi, there isn't a person named Peter Pettigrew at all."

Hermione said calmly.

Lupin said approvingly, "Excellent, Hermione, you truly are the smartest witch I know, besides Darren!"

Hermione felt a bit embarrassed.

Lupin laughed.

"You checked all registered Animagi, but the Ministry of Magic never knew that there have actually been three hidden Animagi all along..."

Lupin was interrupted by the sound of the Shrieking Shack's door opening.

He turned to the side and looked over.

He asked in confusion, "How did the door open?"

"It's haunted here..."

Ron blurted out.

"No, the rumors of it being haunted are because of me... after I was bitten by a werewolf, Dumbledore took pity on me and built this...

Back then there was no Wolfsbane Potion, so I could only turn into a wolf every month and spend the full moon night here.

... Back then my three good friends, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, and James Potter, noticed that I was... every month... later they became Animagi, they accompanied me in animal form, and I followed them, and my mind was much clearer...

Snape actually has a very correct view of me; I really don't count as a good person.

Actually, I should have told Dumbledore long ago that Black was an Animagus, but I was too cowardly.

I finally had a job, and I could come to Darren's side and take care of him up close, I..."

Lupin said sadly.

"Snape?"

Black was drawn in by the mention of Snape in his words.

"Yes, Snape... back then Snape saw Madam Pomfrey bring me into the Whomping Willow... Sirius told him that as long as he poked the knot on the Whomping Willow, he could enter the roots of the Whomping Willow... After your father knew about this, he pulled Snape out. He saved Snape's life, but Snape had already seen me... so Snape has always known I'm a werewolf, and he's been the one brewing the Wolfsbane Potion for me this year."

Harry looked at Lupin in astonishment.

He remembered that in his first year, Dumbledore told him that his father had once saved Snape.

He had always felt that his father was Snape's savior, and that Snape's treatment of him was returning kindness with enmity.

But if it was as Lupin said, then Snape had every reason to resent him and Darren.

It was simply a prank to the point of being disgusting.

But...

That was his and Darren's father... finally.

He said slowly, "So, Snape has always hated you just because he thought you participated in that prank too?"

"That's right!"

A cold voice came from behind Lupin.

It was Snape.

Snape pulled off his Invisibility Cloak, and he pointed his wand at Lupin.

"Tell me, what exactly did you do to Darren, Darren Potter?"
