Chapter 117: Halloween Plan

~5 min read 931 words

For many days to come, Wizard Sean would be planning for one thing.

That thing was the upcoming Halloween.

Early in the morning, Wizard Sean smelled the sweet, tempting aroma of roasted pumpkin drifting through the corridor.

He gazed out the stained-glass window; the Quidditch pitch looked especially empty beneath the gray sky.

A massive figure moved across the withered grass, like a walking hill. In his arms he cradled a gigantic pumpkin—so enormous its orange skin had been carved into a grinning, fanged ghoul’s face, and from its hollow eyes glowed the fuzzy texture of his mole-skin coat behind.

Few knew that the source of Hogwarts’ Halloween jack-o’-lanterns was Hagrid’s pumpkins, each as large as a small shed.

Hagrid’s Hut.

Bats had been hung as decorations; Jia Jia Siting was crafting candies, and a faint milky scent drifted from the table.

The door opened softly, but no one was there—so it closed again.

Hermione was practicing the silent levitation charm, but whenever she had to stay quiet, she always found herself distracted.

That distraction made her notice Neville trembling—he stared nervously at the door, lips quivering as if he wanted to speak but couldn’t.

“Wizard Sean!”

“Wizard Sean?”

Hermione and Jia Jia Siting spoke at once; Wizard Sean appeared in his seat as if shedding an invisibility cloak.

His slightly curious gaze turned to them, as if waiting.

“Your scent, Wizard Sean—it’s unmistakable.”

Jia Jia Siting smiled as he shaped the soft candy dough, looking up.

“The light, Wizard Sean—I’d never spot you at night.”

Hermione frowned, skeptical.

“Is this… the Disillusionment Charm?”

Wizard Sean nodded.

“Really? I thought it was some magical artifact… That’s a spell only upper-year wizards can learn! I’ve only seen it in *Standard Spellbook: Level Six*…”

Hermione exclaimed, then looked at the feather still stubbornly floating nowhere, then at Wizard Sean, visibly frustrated.

She hadn’t even finished *Standard Spellbook: Beginner*, let alone *Standard Spellbook: Level Six*—there were two full books between them!

Neville’s trembling stopped instantly the moment he saw Wizard Sean:

“Oh, it’s Wizard Sean…”

This small incident ended quickly.

Wizard Sean stared at the Squeakvine before him; it always made a “squeak” sound, faithfully accompanying Wizard Sean as he practiced quiet charms.

Today, Wizard Sean’s proficiency in the quiet charm would advance.

【You practiced the Quiet Charm to expert standards. Proficiency +50】

【A new charm mastery title has been unlocked】

Wizard Sean opened his panel with anticipation:

【Title: Charm Practitioner】

【Greatly increases perception of charms, greatly enhances charm talent】

Increased perception?

During his afternoon Disillusionment Charm practice, Wizard Sean had already felt the effect of heightened perception:

With stronger perception, he could sense subtle shifts in spell intensity and adjust his incantation and gestures accordingly.

Thus, he quickly reached the beginner stage.

When he opened the panel again, the improvements were now visibly apparent:

【Name: Wizard Sean Green】

【Identity: Wizard】

【Title: Charm Practitioner】

【Proficiency】

【Levitation Charm: Expert (600/9000)】

【Stopspell: Expert (120/9000)】

【Quiet Charm: Expert (10/9000)】

【Disillusionment Charm: Beginner (6/300)】

【Advancement: Twelve Expert-level charms or five Master-level charms unlock the Charm Mastery Expert title】

How many?

Wizard Sean thought he’d misread.

He silently closed the panel, reopened it—sure he’d opened it wrong.

【Advancement: Twelve Expert-level charms or five Master-level charms unlock the Charm Mastery Expert title】

Now Wizard Sean saw clearly—and accepted it calmly.

He had finally grasped what Miss Miranda had written in *Magical Theory*:

“One truth of learning magic is to master as many spells as possible, including ancient ones—the more spells you know, the more you can accomplish;

another truth is that after mastering a spell, you must practice it relentlessly—skilled casting and clumsy casting differ vastly.”

In short:

The more spells you know, the stronger the wizard;

the more proficient your charms, the stronger the wizard.

The panel’s charm advancement combined both principles.

But it seemed becoming a Charm Expert wouldn’t be easy.

Based on prior analysis:

【Practitioner】 was the charm level of some upper-year and adult wizards;

【Expert】 likely matched the level of Aurors.

Thus,

【Master】 must be the level of professors.

As for levels beyond Master, Wizard Sean had no idea.

Before the Squeakvine.

Wizard Sean sipped steaming pumpkin juice as his Quick-Quotes Quill scribbled furiously.

Halloween was coming soon.

For young wizards, the festive holiday meant another chance to run wild—but for Wizard Sean, it signaled change was near.

On Halloween Eve, Professor Quirrell would release a troll to cover his theft of the Philosopher’s Stone, and Hermione would face grave danger in the girls’ bathroom.

Simultaneously, the troll’s arrival would mark the beginning of Harry’s second major confrontation with Voldemort.

The Chosen One, the greatest white wizard, the Dark Lord, the double agent… would all be dragged uncontrollably into this drama.

As the prophecy stated: one must die at the hand of the other, for both cannot live, only one shall survive.

For Wizard Sean,

the stability of the plotline was most advantageous—it meant he could learn magic under relatively safe conditions.

In the original story, the troll’s arrival, Harry’s victory over it, and the trial of the fourth-floor corridor formed the first-year’s central arc.

Logically, everything should be under Dumbledore’s control—but Wizard Sean couldn’t help wondering: the original story never mentioned a wizard named Wizard Sean Green. What if his presence introduced new variables?

Would Hermione truly face danger? Would others?

So Wizard Sean devised a new plan—to master everything possible.

If he could avoid Voldemort and secretly observe the troll, he could detect any deviations immediately.

In this plan, the Disillusionment Charm and his own combat ability were the most critical elements.
