Chapter 418: Improvement of Spellcraft Talent

~6 min read 1,064 words

Countless magical artifacts operate on principles that are not difficult to understand.

For example, wizarding chess is merely a form of Transfiguration.

For example, the ever-burning candles are simply Lumos charms.

But to create magical artifacts, one must face countless difficulties.

Entering a person’s memory is a time-consuming task; last time they entered Professor Dumbledore’s memories to view a few scenes, it took them an entire day.

Now, Wizard Sean’s mind was packed with memories of knowledge, yet he only slept for two hours.

It’s undeniably magical.

As for how Lady Ravenclaw found the material to hold these memories and preserved them for over a thousand years, Wizard Sean had no idea.

——The scroll has vanished.

【Encountered special circumstances…】

【Absorbed special circumstances…】

【Completed…】

The panel’s prompts rang out three times in succession, leaving Wizard Sean momentarily stunned.

【Your spellcraft talent has improved.】

【Wizard Wizard Sean, Spellcraft Talent: Pale Purple (Spellcraft Proficient already applied). Note: Average wizards are Green.】

【Evaluation: You possess rare talent in spellcraft; through study, you will become a true Master of Spells.】

My spellcraft talent improved?

Wizard Sean was surprised, but quickly understood why his spellcraft talent had improved.

He raised his hand, preparing to cast a Cleaning Charm on his robe stained with pumpkin juice, but a familiar sensation arose unbidden in his mind.

It was as if he had become Ravenclaw herself, following her past motions to cast the spell.

【You practiced a Cleaning Charm to master-level standards. Proficiency +300.】

When the robe was clean, he happened to glance at the wand beside him.

Wait…

He stared at the clean hem of his robe, lost in thought.

Was that just now… wandless casting?

Wandless casting is a skill only wizards of exceptional magical prowess can master.

Dumbledore and Tom had both demonstrated this ability.

Another wizard Wizard Sean knew who excelled at wandless casting was Professor Terra.

Although ancient wizards almost all used wandless casting, by the twentieth century, when wands had become widespread, wandless casting had vanished entirely from Scotland.

Wizard Sean recalled briefly, and certain memories of ancient magic became clear in his mind.

“Magic…”

Wizard Sean knew this was Lady Ravenclaw’s memory, describing ancient magic.

“It is the wizards’ description of the power to make wishes come true. Firm belief is its banner; knowledge and wisdom are its wings. Beyond this, there are no chains.”

As he recalled, recalled, Wizard Sean’s head grew increasingly dizzy; after a few seconds, his vision went black and he collapsed onto his seat.

He didn’t know how long had passed before he opened his eyes and saw Mr. Owl staring at him with wide eyes.

“Enough! Enough! Clever little wizard! Greedy little wizard!”

Mr. Owl chirped incessantly.

Wizard Sean understood now: using the vast memory in his mind seemed to demand a price.

At least a mental one.

After a while longer, he suppressed his joy.

He had gained Ravenclaw’s wisdom—the wisdom contained in knowledge and magical intuition;

His spellcraft talent had improved, and he had unintentionally learned wandless casting.

He smiled, then opened his panel:

【Wizard Wizard Sean, Potions Talent: Blue】

【Wizard Wizard Sean, Herbology Talent: Blue】

【Wizard Wizard Sean, Magical Creatures Talent: Pale Purple】

【Wizard Wizard Sean, Spellcraft Talent: Pale Purple】

【Wizard Wizard Sean, Transfiguration Talent: Purple】

【Wizard Wizard Sean, Dark Arts Talent: Gold】

【Wizard Wizard Sean, Alchemy Talent: Gold】

Two legendary, three epic, and two elite talents now composed Wizard Sean’s current aptitudes.

He raised his head, somewhat satisfied; the sky had brightened considerably, and the owl post had finished delivering mail, flying off toward distant horizons.

Wizard Sean felt he had forgotten something, but the memories in his head were chaotic, and he couldn’t recall what.

Meanwhile, in the hospital wing, Madam Pomfrey stared at the empty bed and let out a startled cry.

Last night, Hogwarts Castle had rained; now the rain had stopped, the sky a crisp, clean pale gray, the grass beneath his feet damp and springy underfoot.

Wizard Sean went to the Forbidden Forest; Hagrid had entrusted it to him, and he always took extra care.

But an accident occurred: Bai Yi, upon seeing Mr. Owl perched on his shoulder, erupted into a furious dragon.

Mr. Owl shrieked and fled; it took Wizard Sean several moments to calm the enraged Bai Yi.

Now, he had other tasks to complete, such as delivering the two-way mirror.

He still felt he had forgotten something, yet could not remember what.

Walking outside the castle, Wizard Sean continued sorting through his memories—ancient magic.

These magics possessed power Wizard Sean could scarcely imagine, yet their difficulty was equally high.

Just now, when Wizard Sean attempted to cast a spell to uproot a tree, he had instantly blacked out.

Lady Ravenclaw’s memory had granted him a certain chance of success, but had not reduced the magical cost.

And the spells he found in her memories rarely required little effort.

Wizard Sean distilled one spell, whose effect was to move a mountain and crush giants;

Another spell summoned lightning to strike down a dragon…

But Wizard Sean’s opponents often lost all combat capability after a single Expelliarmus.

As for deeper ancient magics, their memories were mostly blurred—perhaps because Wizard Sean had not yet reached that level, or perhaps they required something to trigger the memory.

Just like when Wizard Sean had cast the Cleaning Charm earlier.

Entering the castle, Wizard Sean saw a group of young wizards hurrying past, as if searching for someone.

He paid no mind, heading toward the Transfiguration office and the dungeons.

But halfway there, he encountered Professor Snape.

His eyes were bloodshot, fixed intensely on every corner of the castle.

“Professor Snape.”

Wizard Sean said.

“Wizard Sean Green!”

Snape roared, then snatched him up.

Wizard Sean was bewildered, only feeling himself lifted.

He thought quickly, transforming into a black cat, then leapt onto the windowsill.

He sensed something was deeply odd.

“You dare…”

Snape laughed bitterly.

The black cat, confused, then saw Professor McGonagall approaching in a hurry.

“Wizard Sean Green!”

She looked as if she were suppressing panic; her stern face twisted into fury.

“Oh, I suppose this is another little mishap.”

At that moment, the black cat noticed Dumbledore behind her.

Dumbledore winked at him with a smile.

“Albus, have you finished your duties?”

Professor McGonagall said quietly.

“Dumbledore, I told you, I’ll handle this matter.”

Snape stared fixedly at Dumbledore.
