Chapter 453: International Merchant
Wizard Sean Green had his own workshop.
After the contract took effect, he would inherit more than half of the Emerald Workshop;
A smaller portion—the international trade division—would be handled in collaboration with the Professor Tela family witch beside him.
“Please review this, I formally apply to become your agent… Oh my goodness, fortune’s favor always arrives when least expected…”
Su Ya bowed her head, nervous and excited, with a furtive tension.
“Agent…”
Wizard Sean took the contract, puzzled.
“Let me explain to you…”
Su Ya couldn’t suppress the smile on her lips, so she spoke earnestly with trembling excitement,
“In the magical world, wizards’ products easily reach every corner of the globe… Esteemed Mr. Hermes, look here.
Those wizards in Ministry uniforms, wearing Ministry badges, are from the International Magical Cooperation Bureau.
They oversee the approval of wizards’ international transactions, including: the International Magical Law Office, the International Magical Trade Standards Association, and the International Wizarding Federation.
Most of them are specialists from the International Magical Trade Standards Association stationed at the Emerald Workshop.
And when we wish to sell magical goods internationally, we must partner with an international merchant approved by the Ministry.”
Su Ya’s words introduced a specific concept—international merchant.
“It’s such an honor to have the chance to apply for cooperation with you… Oh, I hope you know, I am also an international merchant.”
Su Ya smiled with pursed lips, a faint blush spreading across her cheeks, earlobes, and even her neck.
What could be more wonderful than partnering with the greatest future wizard, the thrice-great Mr. Hermes, and sharing in the mysteries of alchemical magic?
Wizard Sean turned his gaze to Professor Professor Tela, read the contract carefully, and began to understand.
Due to the existence of Portkeys, Floo Network, and other means, wizards face little difficulty in conducting international trade, so the Ministry developed a vast department—
The International Magical Cooperation Bureau.
It reviews wizards’ qualifications and permits a select few to engage in legitimate international trade.
The relationship between international merchants and the International Magical Cooperation Bureau is like that between overseas traders and customs.
And because magical items sold by wizards are inherently difficult to regulate—here, Wizard Sean recalled how Hufflepuff’s senior once carried a “nuclear bomb” around— the International Magical Cooperation Bureau officially permits only international merchants to freely carry goods across borders.
It makes perfect sense.
After all, in the magical world, carrying a few wands in an Undetectable Extension Bag could land you a war crime charge.
“It’s your call, Su Ya… Though slow-witted, she’s diligent.
But before that, let Su Ya show you the other international merchants—some have already swarmed like dogs scenting bones.”
Professor Professor Tela said coolly.
Su Ya’s neck flushed red.
The three were walking through a small garden, its every corner lined with magical circuits that silenced sound and maintained ideal temperature and humidity.
“They say you can at least rival Master Nicolas Flamel.”
Su Ya whispered, her trembling wrist betraying her inner unrest.
“Master Flamel is the true alchemical master.”
Wizard Sean said.
“You’re too modest.”
Su Ya murmured.
Finally, they stopped before a sturdy door, inlaid with the Bestiary of Magical Creatures and emerald stone panels, adorned with a brass door knocker.
Su Ya hesitated, then tapped the knocker, immediately stepping back.
At once, the door burst open with a creak, sweeping the decorations aside.
Three wizards behind the door had clearly been waiting.
“Esteemed—”
One wizard fell silent, leapt to his feet, strode across the garden’s fountain, and seized Wizard Sean’s hand in excitement.
“My student, the dull-witted Mar.”
Professor Professor Tela remarked bluntly.
“Mr. Mar, one of Aunt Professor Tela’s few international merchants she still finds acceptable—though sometimes too shrewd to be believed—he adores alchemy.
He invests half his income into alchemical experiments.”
Su Ya added quietly.
Wizard Sean looked at her in surprise.
“Oh, please don’t look at me like that. Though we’re competitors, Aunt Professor Tela always told me: truth is truth, falsehood is falsehood. Fairness brings justice.
More importantly, I believe you’ll choose me—”
Su Ya seemed to be psyching herself up.
Mar gave a self-deprecating chuckle:
“Professor Professor Tela, please spare me what little dignity I have left.”
He pleaded, then turned his intense gaze toward Wizard Sean.
Young… too young…
In the center of the fountain stood a dolphin statue on an intricately carved white stone base, its tail broken and arched high.
Behind the fountain bloomed a rosebush, unusually vibrant, its flowers a deep indigo, some petals edged with faint purple.
Close by, the scent of roses was stronger than ordinary roses.
Beyond the roses, the other two international merchants stepped forward to meet Wizard Sean.
“Dear Mr. Hermes—”
The Latina witch exuded a sharp, capable air.
“Ola, international wizard merchant handling trade with Waga-du.”
Professor Professor Tela’s tone warmed slightly.
“Ola, a rising alchemical genius from Waga-du.
Of course, she’s nowhere near your level—oh, by the way, I heard she became an international merchant only after attending the International Alchemy Congress you participated in.
Thanks to her solid alchemical foundation, her trade has progressed smoothly.”
Su Ya said.
“Respected Senior Professor Tela… and dear Mr. Hermes…”
Her eyes never left the young wizard.
If gazes had heat, Wizard Sean would have melted already.
The last to approach was a stout male wizard, shyly saying:
“Mr. Green, how’s the Hogwarts menu these days?”
This startled Wizard Sean.
“Liravita, the wizard handling Hogwarts’ international trade.
He manages the procurement of potion ingredients, magical equipment, food supplies, and book exchanges for the Hogwarts library.”
Professor Professor Tela said.
Wizard Sean’s eyes lit up—he’d always had a small question.
Wizards could be self-sufficient, but that didn’t mean they shut themselves off.
The Weasleys still went to Diagon Alley to shop.
But who handled procurement for Hogwarts Castle?
Hagrid? He sometimes helped, but most of his time was taken up by the Forbidden Forest;
House-elves? Their status forbade them from conducting such transactions;
Mr. Filch? Wizard Sean knew it wasn’t him.
