Chapter 482: Report

~5 min read 989 words

Verifying this isn’t difficult.

If [Wisdom] is an extension of a wizard’s inner [Order], then reality should change according to the wizard’s inner state.

This means that if Wizard Sean can reshape a spell, alter its magical force, and discover a different external pattern, he can prove that the wizard’s path relies more on [Order] than on external [Wisdom].

For example: if Wizard Sean, using the same incantation and gestures as before, forcibly transforms the Lumos spell into a Brightlight spell, then finds new incantations, runes, and gestures better suited to Brightlight, he proves that wizards change the world—not merely conform to its laws.

Oh, what a marvelous thing—it will be hard, perhaps even entirely wrong.

But Wizard Sean’s joy remained undisturbed; exploring the deeper mysteries of magic always stirs a wizard’s heart.

Wizard Sean felt a long-forgotten passion and calling, like reading Master Libashu Polachi’s books late at night, sensing the guidance of deeper magic, feeling the ceaseless exploration and journeying of the wizarding people.

The quill stopped. The roasted lamb before him still steamed.

Wizard Sean exhaled slowly, then turned to today’s newspaper.

【Scamander Master’s New Work Announced After Years of Silence—You Haven’t Heard? Merlin, how dare you claim to be a Scamander fan?】

Wizard Sean had a faint sense of dread; he pulled the paper closer and saw Mr. Newt smiling shyly in the photograph.

The magical radio on the long table now crackled to life; once used by Wizard Sean to study the fusion of magic and science, it now emitted a sound unlike any before.

At any time, the radio seemed to chatter about celebrities’ trivialities:

like the Weird Sisters’ concert at Durmstrang being attacked by fans, or the popular witch singer Cetina Wobble’s hit song “A Pot of Hot Love” being plagiarized…

But as always, when the radio began broadcasting serious news, that news would be significant for a long while.

The last time Wizard Sean heard important news was on Professor Tera’s radio, when he had just returned from the International Alchemy Conference, and the entire magical world buzzed with one name;

the time before that, it was Lockhart’s arrest—the second Dark Arts Defense professor still imprisoned far away in Azkaban.

Now, the radio crackled again.

“Will this be your final book, Mr. Scamander?”

A voice, barely containing excitement, came from the radio.

“...Yes.”

Wizard Sean recognized the shy Hufflepuff senior’s voice in a single second.

“You just said…”

“Gods may exist.”

“What an astonishing revelation! If gods exist, what do they look like?”

“A black cat.”

Wizard Sean fell silent, then turned off the radio.

He looked up; the head table was now silent.

“Why not turn it back on?”

Dumbledore winked at him.

“If you insist.”

Wizard Sean placed the radio on the table; Dumbledore smiled more warmly.

The scene was harmonious: young wizards listened nervously to the broadcast, while a group of elder wizards watched with interest, gathering around the radio to form a long seated circle.

Some professors were intrigued by Newt Scamander, the master of magical beasts; others were entirely the opposite.

“A black cat? What kind of black cat?”

The radio continued.

“A black black cat.”

“Hmm…”

Wizard Sean heard the host stifling laughter.

“Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Scamander has confessed: our god is a black cat…”

Wizard Sean suspected the host had received professional training; otherwise, he surely would’ve burst out laughing by now.

“No.”

“What did you say?”

“The god is not the black cat—it merely wears that form. The god may not even be a god at all; it could be a powerful magical beast.

Our perception of it is like Muggles’ perception of magical beasts: they cannot comprehend magic, so they cannot comprehend magical creatures.

We cannot comprehend greater magic, so we cannot comprehend gods.”

“You mean…”

“Not long ago, I encountered it as I once encountered powerful magical beasts in childhood.

If I were the first wizard to meet a Diricawl, I would believe it a god of instant teleportation; if I were the first to meet an Invisibility Beast, I would believe it a god of instant vanishing.”

“So when did you encounter it?”

The host, now clearly captivated, asked with slight tension.

“When I needed it. Ms. Blaina, have you ever dreamed?”

“Of course, Mr. Scamander—I had a wonderful dream yesterday.”

“Dreams make our fantasies possible; in dreams, we even cross the boundary between life and death. That is how I encountered it.

Under its guidance, I crossed the boundary of death and embarked on a great adventure.

I wrote everything into my book and named it:

Master of Dreams and Mists, Bridge Between Life and Death, Symbol of Eternal Fortune—”

Newt paused.

“What is its name?”

The host asked, tense and eager.

“I never asked.”

“Oh! Mr. Scamander!”

Even the professionally trained host could no longer control her emotions.

“But I call it Bastet. I hope it likes my name.”

The radio fell silent.

There was no follow-up because Wizard Sean had quietly slipped out of the Great Hall.

He hadn’t expected that after turning away, Mr. Scamander had written a book.

He now felt like the man who had discovered the Peach Blossom Spring—regretful, and unwilling to let anyone else enter it again.

“Dear Bastet?”

Down the corridor, the old wizard smiled as he passed the young one.

“Oh, dear Bastet—my, what a delightful name! I must write him a letter…”

Even after the old wizard had left, his laughter still lingered in the corridor.

Wizard Sean sighed and spread out the newspaper.

He still had important matters to read.

The Daily Prophet devoted vast space to retelling Mr. Scamander’s strange adventures; other reports occupied only a small portion.

Wizard Sean examined it carefully, finally finding what he had been searching for.

【Ministry Employee Wins Grand Prize】

Arthur Weasley, Head of the Ministry’s Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office, won the annual Daily Prophet Golden Galleon Prize.
