Chapter 578: Small Greenhouse
The greenhouse was warm and cozy.
All kinds of plants grew vigorously here.
When Sean walked toward the corner on the right of the greenhouse, he could see Neville and Jia Siting leading Hermione to handle simple plants in Greenhouse One.
They wove under the flowers—those flowers hung down from the ceiling, about as big as an umbrella.
"The ones with heart-shaped round leaves, downy on both sides, and fine serrations on the edges... those are Lady's Mantle.
It is an indispensable ingredient for making beauty potions."
Jia Siting explained.
Hermione nodded.
Neville beside her didn't say much, only popping out a few words when handling them:
"You have to choose the ones where the down is about the same length as the serrations..."
With the two of them leading, Hermione's learning progress was very fast.
Sprout watched this scene with a smile, then looked at Sean on the path. She had seen such a scene once a year ago, but she could never get tired of it.
Greenhouses, such things happened every year.
Professor Sprout was probably the professor most respected and loved by the young wizards in all of Hogwarts.
Her greenhouse was always open to young wizards who loved nature.
For example, Neville and Jia Siting; diligent as they were, they even had the key to Greenhouse One.
Or for example, Sean; he even had a small greenhouse here, located in the corner on the far right of the greenhouse.
At this moment, he stood here, inside the fence, among a group of brightly colored, lightly scented flowers. These were his lavender; after some special treatment, they could be used to make sleeping draughts.
Besides that, he planted some nettles, mistletoe, daffodils... and recently, more monkshood.
These herbs were the raw materials for Sean to make ordinary antidotes, boil-cure potions, swelling solutions, deflating draughts, and so on.
As soon as he stepped into the work area, a notebook popped up above Sean's head, fixed by a suspended wooden frame, and dropped in front of Sean.
It was exactly Sean's practice notes.
Due to the strong correlation between potions and herbs, Sean not only had to learn the identification, cultivation, and preservation of herbs, but also had to learn the different processing methods required by potion-making and carefully distinguish the state of a specific plant.
These were tedious and time-consuming tasks, but Sean had been doing them tirelessly for over a year, leaving behind a notebook revered as a holy scripture by the Hufflepuffs.
In terms of erudition, this notebook was not as good as the herb science books in the Hogwarts library;
In terms of professionalism, it was even further behind books that delved into a single field, such as "Encyclopedia of Carnivorous Trees" or "Encyclopedia of Poisonous Fungi."
But it was still a notebook that every Hufflepuff had a copy of.
Because, it started from the perspective of the most stupid wizard, guiding a wizard with no talent in detail and scientifically on how to learn herbology.
It was not known for being erudite or professional, but it silently wrote more than seventeen pages on the introduction of dittany.
It was not known for being rich in content, but it had been continuously updated for over a year, with the total number of pages growing from one hundred at the beginning to seven hundred now.
Perhaps just as its cover page said:
【Dedicated to every wizard who loves nature; going to the greenhouse is not a must, and talent is not a must. When you are willing to pick up the hoe, herbology truly begins.】
And for Sean, its original manuscript was not this sentence, but:
【Discovering that you have no talent, yet still being willing to pick up the hoe, is the beginning of herbology.】
Professor Sprout would occasionally catch a glimpse of this sentence when Sean was focused on processing herbs, and whenever that happened, her warm smile would become even brighter.
Greenhouse One had no concept of time.
Sean tended to his small greenhouse, letting it burst with vitality.
It was also in this process that the proficiency of the panel gradually increased:
【You processed a monkshood completely to the standard of an experienced hand, proficiency +10】
【You processed a monkshood completely to the standard of an experienced hand, proficiency +10】
【Title: Herb Scholar】
【Herb Cognition: Experienced Level (25700/30000)】
The exhausted Sean also gradually stopped. Although he could use magic to complete steps like pest control, weeding, and watering, the specific identification, processing, and the perfection of the notes all required him to do it personally.
And as a second-year young wizard, his energy was very limited.
"Come here, children, drink some honey lemon water and rest for a while."
Professor Sprout was as satisfied as could be. The stout witch waved her wand, and everyone was handed a cauldron cake, a box of shiny candies, and a cup of steaming honey lemon water.
"My dear little flower bud, your mother told me that you completed the Animagus transformation?"
Professor Sprout naturally pulled Sean away, and the two came outside the greenhouse.
And inside the greenhouse, senior Bruce and the other two also came to rest—they had just processed Bubotuber pus, and their bodies were still stained with the thick, yellowish-green pus, emitting a pungent smell of petroleum.
"Bruce!"
Leon saw Bruce rushing toward the small wooden dining table and knew what was going to happen.
"Don't eat mine!"
Now Piste also became worried; after all, this guy Bruce would directly snatch the food away without leaving them a single bit.
"Next time I come to the greenhouse, I'll give you my share."
Bruce was already very close to the small wooden dining table.
The edge of the small wooden dining table.
Hermione looked in surprise at the three senior Hufflepuffs who had appeared suddenly.
"Don't pay attention to it, it happens a few times every month."
Jia Siting said with a helpless smile.
"Senior Bruce is actually quite serious at other times..."
Harry added.
"Mmm-hmm—yes, as long as you don't let him meet other Hufflepuff friends or Sean."
Ron's mouth was stuffed with snacks, and his speech was a bit slurred.
"Damn it—your share has already been overdrawn until graduation—"
Leon was angry.
He had already been fooled countless times.
"Everyone, then draw your wands! Only the winner deserves the professor's reward!"
Bruce hadn't finished speaking. A spell flew toward him.
Piste's wand waved quickly:
"Tarantallegra!"
Immediately, Bruce's legs began to twitch uncontrollably, as if he were dancing a fast-paced dance.
"Piste, heartbreaking—you learned to sneak attack—"
Amidst the noise, Hermione didn't know how to bring it up to them.
She had thought of many possibilities for failure: such as the seniors being hard to get along with, or that this would be a secret that couldn't be revealed casually...
But she still couldn't understand why anyone would duel over cauldron cakes.
Clearly, such food was everywhere in the Hogwarts Great Hall.
"It'll be fine in a while."
Jia Siting and the others were used to it, and Jia Siting even hid Sean's share by the way.
After all, when there was no danger, Senior Bruce would secretly create some danger. ===== CHAPTER 579 =====
