Chapter 611
"Is it you talking?"
Newt's cheeks were rosy.
"It's me, not a ghost or anything."
The black cat replied.
"Are you a Kneazle?"
Newt completely lost his shyness toward people and instead became much more at ease and focused.
"... Yes."
The black cat was a bit hesitant; of course, it was a Kneazle, at least part of the time.
"That's truly wonderful."
Newt sighed with slight excitement,
"If you are willing to answer... may I ask where this is?"
"The world behind the veil, my boundary."
The black cat said.
"So, lovely Bastet, are you here to lead me to death, to reunite with my family?"
Newt was slightly distracted.
As a knowledgeable wizard, he naturally knew of the existence of the boundary; this is the world after death, the starting point of a great adventure.
And Bastet is the cat goddess in Egyptian mythology symbolizing war and family. Her personality has two sides, both gentle and virtuous, and brave and warlike.
"Not really."
The black cat shook its head in a human-like way.
"Then, I am here as a guest..."
Newt turned his head and looked into the distance; various bizarre mist clusters were floating, and if one wasn't careful, they would drill into a wizard's head.
The black cat seemed adept at dealing with these mist clusters, using its tail to sweep away the ones that approached.
"Wandering souls, is it true?"
Newt asked cautiously.
"Maybe. If a soul neither wants to leave nor resists death, it is possible to see them here."
The black cat's ears moved, as if thinking.
"Leta Lestrange, have you seen her?"
On Newt's face was an expression the black cat couldn't understand.
"Not at all; wandering souls appear on the eve of dawn, and by that time, I have already left."
The black cat looked into the distance; it was currently daytime, and it wasn't night yet.
"Then, do I still have a chance to reunite with her?"
Newt asked.
"This requires some time... staying here too long, you will get lost."
The black cat's whiskers moved quietly.
"Yes, lovely Bastet, if I want to achieve this, what do I need to pay?"
Newt's eyes narrowed into curved arcs, as if holding light.
He could always get answers by observing magical creatures.
