Chapter 789: Cruel Memories

~7 min read 1,236 words

First, the entire body began to emit steam, and then patterns gradually appeared on the turtle shell.

By the time Sean picked it up, it had already transformed into a qualified teapot.

Sean looked at the teapot carefully and tapped it again; the teapot began to move unhurriedly until it completely transformed back into a turtle.

Having finished all this, Sean silently checked his mental state; he was a bit tired, but not much.

Wandless magic requires stricter control than using a wand, and most of Sean's energy was spent on this aspect.

As soon as he looked up, he met Professor Marcus Marcus Maige's stern face:

"Wandless magic... a dangerous technique... you need more practice."

Professor Marcus Marcus Maige said slowly, and a few seconds later, her brow relaxed again,

"But there is no doubt that you achieved a perfect score, child, well done—"

After finishing the Transfiguration exam, everyone hurriedly finished lunch and immediately returned upstairs to take the Charms exam.

"How did you do?"

In the corridor, Hermione looked up and asked Sean.

"Not bad."

Sean said.

"That means a perfect score, but I will also get a perfect score. If everyone gets a perfect score and we only consider subsequent mistakes... I think this time I will have a chance to surpass you, Sean."

Hermione said while holding her book, and then she turned her head to look at Jia Siting,

"And you."

"I think so."

Jia Siting conceded blindly.

Harry and the others couldn't get a word in, but they didn't mind.

Harry was single-mindedly thinking about achieving 'Exceeds Expectations' in Charms, Transfiguration, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Potions, so that he would meet the requirements for an Auror in "History of Magical Careers";

Luo En harbored the same vague idea as Harry; he placed "History of Magical Careers" at the bottom of his book pile and left a cryptic mark on the Auror page.

Neville was as nervous as ever, holding his notes and reviewing constantly.

"I think Professor Fuliwei might test a special spell, the Cheering Charm; you had better look at it in advance."

Before entering the exam room, Hermione suggested, racing against time.

Harry and the others were very concerned; after all, everyone knew Hermione was Professor Fuliwei's second favorite wizard.

Sure enough, Hermione was right; Professor Fuliwei did indeed test the Cheering Charm.

Because of his nervousness, Harry's movements were a bit excessive, and Luo En, who was paired with him, burst into fits of hysterical laughter; in the end, he had to be taken to a quiet room and stay for an hour before he could complete his own spell.

When Sean performed the spell, Jia Siting started laughing before the incantation was even finished, which for a moment made Sean wonder if he had already cast the charm.

After dinner, the students hurried back to the common room, not to rest, but to start reviewing Potions and Astronomy.

The day ended just like that.

In the evening, Sean was reading by the stained-glass window of the Ravenclaw Tower.

He read "The Tale of the Three Brothers" once again, and the mist also rose slowly under the deep blue, tranquil sky.

Faraway Dorset.

Newt lulled the three noisy Kneazles to sleep, at which point he involuntarily thought of those days during the last Christmas.

When he saw the mist gradually rising, he had a relaxed smile on his face and slowly fell asleep.

I don't know how much time passed, but Newt opened his eyes and slowly turned around in place; the surrounding scenery seemed to materialize before his eyes.

This was a vast, expansive space, bright and clean, and there was a dilapidated building right before his eyes.

It was an old Victorian residence, with a "Children's Home" sign still hanging on the wooden door.

A black cat... no, a Kneazle, was lying right on top of the sign, looking at him with emerald eyes.

"Mr. Scamander."

The black cat said.

"Respected Bastet."

Newt said with a smile.

He occasionally came into the dream, and when the black cat before him studied weather magic and space magic earnestly, he would feel that perhaps the ancient legends were all true.

"What do you want to know today?"

Newt asked.

While asking this, he also thought of his long-lost creative enthusiasm; the manuscript for "Dreams and Gods" was already mostly perfected.

Perhaps before long, Bastet would be able to see this book in the dreams of others.

"Today I ask for nothing."

The black cat said; it sat on the wooden sign, its fur gleaming under the streetlamp, presenting a kind of fantastical sense of holiness.

"That is... Leta, I... when can I see her."

Newt was slightly distracted.

"I need some memories, Mr. Scamander."

The black cat stated gently.

It looked cryptically at its own chest, where there was not only an alchemical creation like a stone slab but also a profound stone.

The Resurrection Stone.

Its function is to be able to pull back departed souls, but it naturally has its limitations.

—The user must have a certain impression of the departed soul.

And the black cat could not find a single image of Leta in its head.

"Naturally, naturally, a trade must be fair."

Newt was distracted for a moment before saying.

Dear Bastet possessed the magic to command dreams, but for a mortal to trade with it, a price must inevitably be paid.

He would not think that some inconsequential magical knowledge could make this powerful magical creature cross the boundary of life and death for him.

"I will give you my memories, I voluntarily give them up, I just want to see her..."

Newt said incessantly.

"What did you say?"

After Newt agreed, the black cat kept searching for something in the mist; a few seconds later, it used its tail to throw out a Pensieve.

This Pensieve was thrown into Newt's hands, and his face flushed slightly:

"Can a Pensieve be used in the world behind the veil as well..."

He muttered to himself.

"This place is my dream."

The black cat raised its paw and elegantly drew a circle, indicating it was this big.

"Ah..."

Newt smiled; he used the Pensieve while harboring shock at such powerful magic and heartfelt joy.

"I need to be with you."

The black cat jumped over, curiously examining Newt's silvery memory strands.

Its paws stepped on Newt's shoulder, and its fur brushed against Newt's face; Newt thought this might be the most wonderful dream he had had all year.

"I need to see her, Mr. Newt."

The black cat repeated at the end.

"I understand..."

Newt, as if shy, did not look the black cat in the eye, but simply buried his head into the Pensieve along with it.

In the memory, it was a rainy day.

A young Newt Scamander sat alone in the dim waiting area, staring blankly with wide eyes.

A moment later, he felt something tugging at his wrist; he looked down and saw Pickett the Bowtruckle swinging on a loose thread from his cuff.

The thread snapped, Pickett fell, and Newt's button rolled away into the distance down the corridor.

Newt and Pickett watched it go, then they both ran to chase it.

Newt got there first; as he bent down to pick up the button, he discovered a pair of women's feet in front of him.
