Chapter 134: Chinese Fireball Dragon
LiTa appeared at a very inopportune moment.
John slowly released Hermione and gave LiTa a hostile look.
He barely managed to hold Hermione once, only to have you, long‑tongued woman, spoil the atmosphere.
LiTa, however, paid no heed to John's unfriendly gaze, turning her head to look at the other contestants.
She also took a photo of each of them, a smug smile lifting the corner of her mouth.
"All right, Warriors, you're almost ready, right?"
At that moment, Dumbledore entered the tent accompanied by two Headmasters and Old Barty.
"Everyone gather around; the competition is about to begin."
"Sirius, you may go wait in the Spectator Seats."
Saying that, he gently pushed Sirius and Hermione toward the tent entrance.
John and Harry could only watch them leave, then moved to Dumbledore's side.
Dumbledore's gaze swept over the four Warriors, his expression solemn yet gentle.
"The first event tests courage and adaptability; next, you will face a genuine Fire Dragon."
"Your task is to snatch a Golden Egg hidden among the dragon's eggs from the Fire Dragon's lair."
"Inside the Golden Egg lies the clue for your second stage."
Upon hearing the specific task, the contestants each let out a sigh of relief; after all, they wouldn't have to fight the Fire Dragon head‑on.
If they only needed to take the Golden Egg, there would still be room to maneuver.
"Barty, the bag."
After finishing the briefing, Dumbledore called out to Barty.
Old Barty, cradling a black bag, stepped into the middle of the contestants.
"Now, each of you extend your hand in turn and draw the Fire Dragon you will face from inside the bag."
"Miss Delacour, you go first."
Saying that, Old Barty held the bag out before Furong.
Furong glanced at Ma Ke Xi Mu Fu Ren behind her, inhaled deeply, and slowly slipped her hand into the bag.
She then carefully retrieved a green little dragon model; its wings quivered slightly, and a thin wisp of flame puffed from its nostrils.
"Welsh Green Dragon."
Old Barty glanced at it and said slowly.
Then he turned to John beside him and gave the bag a shake.
"Mr. Merick."
John, as instructed, reached in, feeling around, and seized a dark‑red little dragon model whose scales glimmered metallically, its serrated tail spines trembling faintly.
Old Barty announced in a deep voice, "Chinese Fireball Dragon."
Not bad, that's exactly to my liking.
John was quite pleased with this draw.
Next it was Krum's turn; he drew an earth‑yellow little dragon model.
"Swedish Short‑nosed Dragon."
Krum gave a slight nod.
Harry, being last, already knew without drawing what he would face.
Hungarian Tree Bee Dragon.
Nevertheless, he extended his hand and retrieved the jet‑black little dragon model, its surface covered with fierce spikes, its eyes set with dark‑red rubies that glowed menacingly.
Barty's voice rang out immediately: "Hungarian Tree Bee Dragon."
Seeing the four Warriors finish drawing, Dumbledore gave a slight nod, his gaze flickering over each of their faces before he spoke slowly.
"All right, good luck to you, contestants."
"Next, you will take the stage in order, showing everyone your courage and wisdom."
Saying that, he looked at John.
"Mr. Merick, you'll go first later; as soon as the cannon fires…"
Bang!!
Before Dumbledore could finish speaking, the manager on the upper rack, hearing the word 'cannon', slammed the cannon.
Thick smoke rose skyward with a deafening roar.
The spectators outside, hearing the cannon, realized the competition had officially begun and erupted in thunderous cheers.
"Meilik! Meilik! Meilik!"
The order had been set from the start, so the audience had long been eager to shout support for John.
At this point, no one cared how John had been chosen as a Warrior.
They cared about the upcoming human‑dragon battle.
Dumbledore said no more, waved his hand, signaling John to set off at once.
John nodded, looked at Harry, and gave him a slight smile.
Then he turned, strode toward the passage without any hesitation.
"Meilik! Meilik! Meilik!"
As a roar like a tidal wave swept the Jing Ji Chang, John's figure slowly emerged in the dust‑filled passage.
His blue‑black robe billowed in the gusting wind; he stepped steadily onto a Giant Rock and surveyed the arena.
The space here was vast, rock walls towering all around, sand and stones scattered, roughly the size of a football field.
On the central rock platform, the Chinese Fire Dragon was coiled within, its scarlet vertical pupils fixed on the uninvited guest.
A sturdy iron chain hung around its neck, binding it tightly within this Jing Ji Chang.
Sure enough, the Ministry of Magic still imposes restrictions on these Fire Dragons.
And the Golden Egg lies among several genuine dragon eggs behind it.
To obtain it, one must cross this raging Beast.
John slowly raised his hand holding a wand; long before the contest he had studied all four dragon species thoroughly.
The Fire Dragon's size, compared to other dragon species, is somewhat petite, only seven or eight meters long, yet its explosive power is extremely terrifying.
Compared to other dragon species, its movements are even swifter and more agile; whether in the sky or on the ground, it possesses considerable mobility.
Most crucially, humans are included in this creature's diet.
Roar!!
Suddenly, the Fire Dragon threw its head back and let out a thunderous roar, a spherical blaze spouting from its mouth straight toward John's position.
"Multitudinous Obstacles!"
John acted decisively, swinging his wand; a Stone Wall rose instantly from the ground, precisely blocking the flame's impact.
The scorching gust lifted dust into the air; the Stone Wall stopped the flame's frontal strike, yet the edge flames still writhed like poisonous snakes.
John felt his skin burning, as if standing inside a furnace of flame.
But he did not retreat; instead he waved his wand again, casting an Isolation Spell that blocked all heat and flame.
When the flames finally dissipated, the Stone Wall was already riddled with cracks.
As John dispelled the Magic Spell, the Stone Wall crashed down with a thunderous boom.
The Fire Dragon, seeing that this human before it had not been reduced to ash, its scarlet vertical pupils flashing with a hint of ferocity, directly smashed the rock platform beneath its feet and lunged fiercely toward John.
It leapt among the jagged rock walls as if on flat ground; in a single breath it covered half the arena, its claws raised high and slashing straight down.
But at the instant it was about to reach John, a Stone Wall suddenly rose beneath it, pressing against its lower jaw and flipping it over.
"Oh oh!!"
This truly left the audience trembling with fear.
Because John just now looked as if he were stunned by fear, standing motionless in place.
It wasn't until that hair‑raising moment, when the Stone Wall burst from the ground, that people realized it had been planned all along.
As the Fire Dragon rolled, losing its balance, it let out an angry roar, its tail suddenly sweeping toward the Stone Wall.
The Stone Wall cracked in response, shards scattering, but all were blocked by John's Iron Armor Spell.
Comparing with the opening scene, John still stood atop that Giant Rock, while the Fire Dragon clumsily fell into the crevice between the rock walls beneath John's feet.
The superiority was clear.
