Chapter 396: with translation of chapter title

~7 min read 1,375 words

Night fell.

Yuer donned a dark robe, and when she pushed open the door, the hallway was already empty.

She sneaked out of the Common Room and headed outside the Castle.

Although John had gone out at night a few times before, Yuer was still doing it for the first time.

So she volunteered to go to the Beating Willow to switch John out again.

The little girl, upon reaching the empty hallway, couldn't help but hop and skip.

"The feeling of sneaking out at night is great!" Yuer muttered softly, her steps light as a mouse that had stolen cheese.

She followed the route John had pointed out in her mind, all the way to the Corridor Bridge in the castle's backyard.

Moonlight spilled over the trees in the backyard, casting dappled shadows.

Yuer poked her head out of the hallway, carefully checked that no one was around, then dashed across the Corridor Bridge to the open space in front of the Beating Willow.

"Brother, I'm here." she murmured, her gaze falling on the Beating Willow standing still in the moonlight.

【Leave the rest to me】

John's voice echoed in her mind, and then Yuer closed her eyes where she stood.

When she opened her eyes again, it was John's clear gaze.

John waved his hand, and a pebble struck precisely the knot on the Beating Willow's trunk.

The restless Beating Willow immediately calmed down.

John, familiar with the way, entered the Secret Passage and hurried toward the Screaming Shack.

Soon he arrived at the Screaming Shack.

He pushed open the trapdoor and crawled out from the Secret Passage.

He brushed off the dust on himself and looked around.

In the upstairs room, a faint light seeped through.

John tiptoed up the stairs, the wooden steps creaking softly under his feet.

He pushed open the ajar door and saw Titus sitting in an old chair by the window.

Titus heard the movement, raised his glowing wand, and looked toward the newcomer.

But as soon as he saw the visitor's face, his composure shattered instantly, and his eyes reddened.

Because John had returned to his original form.

He looked at him helplessly, with a hint of heartache: "Titus, you've lost weight."

Titus gritted his teeth, holding back tears, his voice tinged with stubbornness and anger.

"You, you still have the nerve to say..."

"You bastard!...!"

His words carried a hint of gritted-teeth resentment, yet could not conceal the deep-seated concern and grievance.

Seeing Titus agitated, John also realized he was in the wrong and did not retort.

"Is it fun to toy with me!"

"And you even went so far as to turn into a girl to approach me!"

"That Yuer is you, isn't it!"

"You deliberately acted like a little girl to disgust people, right!"

Titus continued to pour out his fury at John, his voice trembling more and more.

Through Luna's hint and his own speculation, he had already figured out that Yuer was John's true identity.

But he did not know that Yuer actually existed.

So in his view, John was a complete scoundrel, a despicable guy.

He deliberately turned into a girl to approach himself, and all day long put on a disgusting little-girl act just to watch himself make a fool of himself.

John was about to step forward to explain when his body suddenly jerked, and the next second Yuer took over.

"I'm not pretending; I am Yuer, why would I pretend!"

The little girl, wearing John's face, struck a little-girl pose with hands on hips and spoke aggressively.

Even her tone changed.

Titus still wanted to lash out, but was stunned by this "John" maneuver.

Yuer had barely spoken when John immediately snatched back control of the body.

"Cough, cough, Yuer, don't cause trouble first; Titus, hear me out."

"Yuer is my sister, she...."

He hadn't finished explaining when Yuer took over again.

"No, he said I'm disgusting, I must argue it out clearly!" Yuer shouted, hands on hips, talking to herself.

"I'm not my brother's disguise; I am myself...."

Once again, John retook control.

"Yuer, don't add to the chaos; wait till I finish explaining before you come out."

John pressed his forehead helplessly, his tone tinged with fatigue and apology.

But Yuer refused to give up, repeatedly taking over, determined to make Titus clarify what exactly was disgusting about a little-girl act.

Titus stared at the face before him flipping back and forth between two utterly different demeanors, and for a moment he felt dazed.

"You... do you have split personalities?"

After a long while, Titus tentatively asked.

The struggle between John and Yuer for control of the body ceased at the same time.

"It's not a split personality, it's two people." John's voice finally steadied, and while Yueer wasn't fighting for the number, he quickly said.

"I didn't mean to deceive you, Titus, I have a reason."

"I..." He had just said a few words when John suddenly collapsed straight down.

With a bang, his face fell straight to the ground, making a dull thud.

Titus looked at the scene before him with a bewildered expression, his brain somewhat unable to keep up.

Until ten seconds later.

"Uh... hurt hurt hurt... bro, what's wrong with you......"

John's voice turned back into Yueer again; she rubbed her reddened nose in pain and sat up from the ground.

Just half a day, with no reply from John.

Yueer panicked inside, and quickly sank her consciousness into the Consciousness Space.

She discovered that John's soul had fallen back into a sleeping state.

"Uh......"

Yueer seemed to have understood something.

Because they kept fighting for the number, John's soul, not yet recovered, couldn't bear the load of such frequent switching and finally passed out.

She embarrassingly returned to her body and looked at Titus, who had a bewildered expression.

"Um, my brother fell asleep......"

Yueer somewhat embarrassingly scratched her head.

"Your brother?"

Titus, hearing this address, asked strangely: "Your brother? Then who are you?"

"I'm Yueer! I've said I'm not pretending!"

"How can you say I'm disgusting!"

Upon mentioning this, Yueer got worked up again and shouted at Titus in dissatisfaction.

Titus: "???"

Seeing that he still had a clueless look.

Only then did Yueer let out a sigh.

She pushed herself up from the ground, walked to the sofa and sat down; her movements and demeanor were naturally those of a little girl.

Not at all like she was pretending.

But paired with John's body, the sense of incongruity was really strong.

"Let's reintroduce ourselves properly."

"My name is Yueer, Yueer Merick."

"I am John's sister, more precisely, a sister who shares a body with him."

Yueer sat upright on the sofa, legs together, hands properly placed on her knees, just like a little girl's sitting posture.

Soon, Yueer recounted everything between her and her brother John from beginning to end.

Including how John died in a battle with Voldemort, and she kept his soul hanging on, allowing him to be revived.

Also, after the revival, John's soul was weak, so she had to temporarily take over his body in his place.

And for Yueer, it was the first time in many years that she had come into contact with the outside world.

Her contact with Titus and the others was purely because Titus is John's best friend.

Under the influence of the soul, she also naturally felt a closeness toward them.

Of course, there was also John's intention; John also wanted to check on how his brothers were doing.

As for why they had to keep it secret from them, it was due to strategic necessity, to let Voldemort misjudge their strength on this side.

After hearing everything piece by piece, Titus's worldview suffered a strong shock.

"I had originally planned to call you all tomorrow to go to the Headmaster's Office to explain, but you discovered the truth first."

"If you don't believe it, tomorrow we can go find Headmaster Dumbledore to talk and then you'll know."

And that last sentence was the final nail in the coffin.

After all, even Headmaster Dumbledore personally came forward to guarantee it, so it must be true.

In an instant, all the misunderstandings, resentment, and grievances vanished like smoke.
