Chapter 79

~7 min read 1,284 words

The next morning, John slept until he woke up naturally.

It's great not having to get up early to have passionate sparring sessions with Professor Fuliwei.

He stretched lazily, and after sitting up, he vaguely heard movement outside.

Is Hermione up so early?

"Meow..."

Click, click, click.

Just then, the sound of Big Orange scratching at the door came from outside.

John got out of bed, shuffled in his slippers, and walked to the door.

After opening the door, he saw Big Orange clawing at the door frame.

After seeing John, Big Orange let out a lazy meow, then walked elegantly toward the hall with its tail held high.

John was speechless; this cat must have come to wake him up on purpose...

After Big Orange walked out, Hermione's voice came from the hall.

"Crookshanks, did you wake John up?"

"Meow..."

Big Orange let out a lazy meow.

So it was Hermione who specifically asked it to wake John up.

When John walked to the hall, he saw Hermione appearing before his eyes, wearing an apron and holding a spatula.

John couldn't help but take a few extra looks; he didn't expect Hermione to have such a domestic vibe.

Hermione also smiled when she saw John.

"Morning, John. I've prepared breakfast. I hope you don't mind me using your kitchen without asking."

"I'll have to taste your breakfast before I can decide if I mind."

John leaned against the hallway wall and said half-jokingly.

"Are you questioning my cooking skills?"

Hermione raised her eyebrows and looked at John with one hand on her hip.

"Except for my mom and dad, you're the first person to taste my cooking."

"If you dare say it's not good, I'll flip your skull off."

As she spoke, Hermione waved her little fist, threatening him in jest.

Hey, you.

Why are you being so pushy?

John shook his head and chuckled. After he finished washing up and returned, Hermione had already set the table for breakfast.

And I have to say, it looked quite decent.

"Hmm, it has a bit of my prowess in it."

John looked at the exquisite breakfast and nodded.

Hermione rolled her eyes beautifully upon hearing this.

"Less talk, hurry up and taste it."

John nodded, picked up his fork, and in one bite, popped the sunny-side-up egg Hermione had carefully prepared into his mouth.

He chewed twice and swallowed it.

Then, with the force of a storm, he swept away the breakfast on the other plates.

He finished the milk on the side in the last two gulps.

John wiped his mouth and gave a thumbs up.

"Mmm, yummy!"

Actually, he didn't really taste anything special; he just felt that this breakfast was truly breakfast-y.

Hermione: "......"

Sure enough, it was my mistake to expect John to savor it carefully and give a review...

Hermione sighed, speechless, and held her forehead.

But seeing John patting his belly with a satisfied look, she couldn't help but smile.

This was probably the highest praise John could give for this breakfast.

"If it's good, I'll make it for you again tomorrow."

Hermione said while eating her own breakfast in a leisurely manner.

"Okay, okay."

John nodded happily; having someone feed him was naturally the best.

Hermione looked at him and couldn't help but laugh softly, then continued.

"But you have to go out with me later. We're running low on ingredients at home, so let's go buy some together."

Hearing this, John also remembered that there really wasn't much left in the house.

Because no one had been home for a while, what was left were all ingredients that could be stored for a long time.

It wasn't possible to make any delicate dishes.

It was a good time to replenish some fresh ingredients and fruits.

So John nodded.

"No problem. The weather is nice today anyway, let's go out for a walk."

Hearing John's suggestion, Hermione readily agreed.

It had snowed all night last night, but today was sunny; it was indeed good weather.

After breakfast.

The two cleaned up the table together, changed into thick coats, and went out together.

The street was covered with a blanket of white snow, and the sunlight shining on it refracted a dazzling light.

The snow on the walkway had been cleared early in the morning, leaving a narrow path in the middle, with thick snow on both sides.

Hermione squinted her eyes and looked up, feeling the warmth of the sunlight on her face.

"It's so nice, the sky clearing after the snow, John..."

Feeling the sunlight on her body, Hermione was in a great mood and turned her head, intending to say something to John.

But just as she turned her head, she saw John standing by a snow pile, holding a snowball high, about to throw it over.

"Uh..."

John's movement paused; he didn't expect Hermione to turn back suddenly.

The two stared at each other for a second, and the atmosphere suddenly became a bit awkward.

Seeing that his sneak attack plan had been discovered, John immediately stopped his movement and pretended to say nonchalantly.

"Wow, Hermione, this snow is so white."

Hermione squinted her eyes, a cold smile tugging at the corners of her mouth; she clearly wasn't buying it.

"Is that so? Then let me see how white it is."

Hermione reached out to John, signaling him to hand over the snowball.

"......"

Although very reluctant, John still handed over the snowball in his hand.

Hermione took the snowball, squeezed it gently, and then raised her hand to throw it at John.

With a bang, the snowball hit John squarely in the face.

Caught off guard, John was hit head-on, leaned backward, and fell into the snow pile, splashing up a flurry of snowflakes.

Hermione couldn't help but laugh out loud at John's disheveled appearance.

And John lay in the snow pile, motionless, staring at the sky with a dead-fish face.

"How is it, John? Is the snow white?"

Hermione walked to the side of John's head with her hands in her pockets.

John blinked, and under the deep blue sky in his line of sight, Hermione's little head poked out.

She had a smug smile on her face, looking at John with a grin.

The sunlight shone on the tips of her hair, as if gilding her with a golden edge.

Hermione was wearing a beige coat today, wrapped in a light gray scarf, which made her look even more gentle.

Sunlight was interspersed in her hair, fluttering with the wind, like an elf in the snow, beautiful and stunning.

John looked at her, feeling a bit dazed for a moment, and replied subconsciously.

"Hmm... beautiful."

Hermione tilted her head strangely. What's beautiful? Didn't I ask if the snow was white?

But she immediately noticed that John seemed to be staring fixedly at her face. Could it be that he meant...

Hermione was slightly startled, and a blush appeared on her cheeks involuntarily.

John also realized he had let it slip and quickly looked away.

"Ah... I mean, this snow is indeed quite white."

John propped himself up, patted the snow off his body, and said with a straight face.

Hermione's mouth curled up slightly, and looking at John's guilty expression, her eyes were full of laughter.

She didn't expose John's words, put her little hands behind her back, and turned to walk toward the sunlight.

"Alright, let's go quickly, or the fresh ingredients will be snatched up if we're late."

Hermione walked forward briskly, looked back at John, and said with a smile.

John looked at Hermione's back, feeling a bit strange; Hermione seemed to be in a very good mood.
