Chapter 127: Returning to the Embrace
News that "Wolf Warrior 2" had been pulled from the schedule spread to the mainland, and public opinion instantly boiled over.
The "People's Daily" magazine published a special commentary:
"A masterpiece showcasing the Chinese people should not be buried!"
Teachers and students of the Beijing Film Academy jointly launched a support campaign, hanging banners across the campus:
"Director Xiang Fei, the mainland welcomes you!"
On the streets and in the alleys, citizens discussed heatedly:
"I heard Director Xiang Fei went bankrupt just to make a patriotic film?"
"For a director like this, we will definitely support him!"
"Xiangjiang won't keep people; the mainland opens its arms!"
At four in the morning, the old Xiang family residence was shrouded in a hazy morning mist.
Xiang Fei knelt before the main gate and picked up a brush to write:
"Grandfather, Father, Dad, Mom, your son is unfilial, but the backbone of the Chinese people cannot be broken."
Zhou Huimin gently pushed the door open and came in, holding packed luggage:
"I've already made contact with Dad's side; he has an old friend in Shenzhen to meet us."
Xiang Fei gripped Zhou Huimin's hand tightly:
"Minmin, once we leave, it might be..."
"Don't say it," Zhou Huimin interrupted him, her eyes firm, "I said when I accepted your proposal that I would follow you to the ends of the earth."
Before the bluestone steps, the couple bowed deeply three times to the century-old residence. As they rose, Zhou Huimin's tears had already soaked her clothes.
At the airport VIP passage, dozens of media outlets had already surrounded the area, leaving no room to squeeze through.
"It's Xiang Fei! They're here!"
Flashbulbs instantly merged into a sea of light as reporters shoved forward wildly with microphones raised.
Suddenly, the crowd was forcibly parted. Two burly men in suits, accompanied by more than a dozen sturdy young men, rushed in.
"Brother Long! Brother Hu!" Xiang Fei was both surprised and delighted; it turned out to be the two mysterious men who had saved him during Wang Yu's incident last time. Later, Xiang Fei learned they had been arranged by his grandfather to protect him.
Bai Long grabbed the stumbling Zhou Huimin by the arm: "Take the freight passage! The car has already been arranged!"
Hei Hu snatched a reporter's microphone and smashed it on the ground: "Move aside! Don't block the way!"
As Xiang Fei was pushed forward, he suddenly grabbed Bai Long: "You guys..."
"Rest assured!" Bai Long grinned, "Once we finish our business at hand, we'll bring the brothers north to find you tomorrow!"
Hei Hu pressed a slip of paper into Xiang Fei's hand: "Call this number when you reach Shenzhen; someone will meet you."
Before the gangway of the Boeing 747, Xiang Fei turned back for one last look at the city where he had lived for twenty years.
Zhou Huimin held his hand tightly: "Do you regret it?"
Xiang Fei shook his head and pulled a crumpled "Wolf Warrior 2" poster from his pocket:
"As a Chinese person, I never regret."
The flight attendant smiled and reminded them: "Mr., Ms., please board."
As the plane surged into the clouds, the morning sun just leaped out of the sea of clouds, bathing the wings in golden light.
At Shizhen Airport, the arrival hall was already packed with fans who had come spontaneously to welcome them.
The banner reading "Welcome Director Xiang home!" stood out exceptionally prominently.
An elderly man with white hair hurried forward and gripped Xiang Fei's hand tightly:
"Child, you have suffered."
Xiang Fei choked up and bowed deeply: "Thank you..."
Suddenly, a commotion arose from the back of the crowd. Bai Long and Hei Hu were seen arriving, dragging luggage and covered in dust, leading more than twenty brothers.
"Brother Fei!" Hei Hu waved with a loud laugh, "I said we'd arrive right after you; didn't I lie to you?"
Zhou Huimin stopped crying and smiled: "You guys..."
The elderly man patted Xiang Fei's shoulder: "Let's go, settle in first. Tonight I'll take you to meet a few friends from the film industry."
That evening, in a hotel conference room in Shizhen, several mainland filmmakers were discussing heatedly.
"Leave the mainland distribution of 'Wolf Warrior 2' to us!"
"Set the release date for National Day; it perfectly matches the theme!"
Xiang Fei looked at the revised promotional plan; a new line had been added to the opening credits:
"Dedicated to all Chinese people who hold passion in their hearts."
