Chapter 179: Pranking the Judges 1
At Yongsheng Building, Xiang Fei and Zhou Huimin snuck into Auntie Xiang's office on the sly.
"Auntie!" Xiang Fei sidled up with a grin. "Do us a favor, eh?"
Auntie Xiang was looking over the show's run sheet and didn't even lift her head. "In trouble again?"
Zhou Huimin pressed her lips together in a smile. "No, no. We want to play a little game."
Xiang Fei rubbed his hands together. "Tonight on 'Xiangjiang's Got Voice,' Ah Min and I want to go on as contestants and prank the judges."
Auntie Xiang finally looked up, raising an eyebrow at them. "You two? A big shot of the film world and a diva of the music world, going on as rookie contestants?"
"That's right!" Xiang Fei said, fully justified.
Auntie Xiang held her forehead. "You're both parents already, and still this playful!"
Zhou Huimin looped her arm through Auntie Xiang's and acted coy. "Auntie, just let us play once, please. We promise we won't cause trouble."
Auntie Xiang burst out laughing and shook her head helplessly. "Fine, fine, but don't go too far. The judges are old friends of yours."
Coming out of Auntie Xiang's office, Xiang Fei and Zhou Huimin headed straight for the makeup room and found Zeng Zhiwei touching up his makeup.
"Zhiwei-ge!" Xiang Fei threw an arm around his shoulder. "Do us a favor!"
Zeng Zhiwei squinted his little eyes warily. "What scheme are you two cooking up now?"
Zhou Huimin explained with a smile, "We want to disguise ourselves as contestants and go on stage to prank the judges."
The moment Zeng Zhiwei heard that, he was immediately intrigued. "Wow! That's fun! How are you planning to do it?"
Xiang Fei lowered his voice. "Ah Min goes first, sings a song, and we'll see if she can get all four judges to turn around."
Zeng Zhiwei grinned wickedly. "And what if they recognize Ah Min?"
"So what if they do? It's just for fun anyway." Xiang Fei shrugged. "After a few more contestants go, I'll go up."
Zeng Zhiwei slapped his thigh. "Deal! I'll arrange it for you!"
The show officially began. Zeng Zhiwei stood on stage and introduced the rules with a beaming smile.
"Tonight on 'Xiangjiang's Got Voice,' we have four heavyweight judges — Zhang Xueyou, Zhang Guorong, Mei Yanjiang, and Chen Huilin!"
The audience cheered. The four judges sat in their swivel chairs, backs to the stage, waiting for the contestants to appear.
After the first few contestants finished singing, Zeng Zhiwei picked up the microphone mysteriously. "Our next new contestant is a great beauty! Sweet voice, sweet looks. Please welcome — Li Xiaomei!"
The lights dimmed. From the center of the stage, a woman wearing a half-veil slowly walked out.
The audience went silent for a second, then erupted into thunderous applause and screams — even though her face couldn't be seen clearly, that elegant air and familiar figure had many already guessing who she was.
The musical intro began — it was the melody of "A Lifetime of Love."
Zhou Huimin began softly:
"Once, and now, the past will never come again…"
Before she even finished the first line, Zhang Guorong slammed down his button and the chair swiveled around with a whoosh!
"Wow! That voice —" He hadn't finished speaking before he saw clearly who was on stage, and his eyes went wide.
Mei Yanjiang had been listening with her eyes closed. Hearing Zhang Guorong's exclamation, she immediately pressed her button too, turned around, took one look, and burst out laughing.
Chen Huilin had still been hesitating. Hearing the two judges' reactions, she turned around curiously as well. The moment she saw it was Zhou Huimin, she collapsed onto the table laughing. "Hahaha—"
Zhou Huimin fought back her laughter and kept singing:
"In the sea of suffering love stirs up waves, in this world one cannot escape fate…"
At the chorus, Zhang Xueyou had been listening seriously, but suddenly felt the voice was oddly familiar. He hesitated for a moment, pressed his button, and the chair slowly swiveled around —
"Wow!!" He shot straight to his feet. "Vivian-jie?!"
The whole audience burst out laughing!
Zhang Guorong held his forehead. "Hey! Is the production team messing with us? Zhou Huimin coming on as a contestant?"
Mei Yanjiang slapped the table. "Exactly! How are we supposed to judge this? Just hand her the championship!"
Chen Huilin laughed until she couldn't straighten up. "Ah Min, when you sing like that, how could we possibly not turn around?"
Zhang Xueyou looked utterly helpless. "Senior, you're putting us under a lot of pressure here!"
Zhou Huimin finally couldn't hold it in and broke character laughing. "Sorry, I just came here to have fun."
Zeng Zhiwei popped up at just the right moment and grinned wickedly. "So, what do you think? Four judges, are you taking this contestant or not?"
Zhang Guorong raised his hands in surrender. "Take her, take her! Who'd dare not to?"
Mei Yanjiang teased, "Ah Min, don't do this again next time. We judges have our pride too!"
The whole audience was in stitches, and thunderous applause rang out.
