Chapter 27: Album Sells Massively
On the night the recording work was entirely finished, Xiang Qian stood alone on the rooftop of the recording studio, gazing at the night view of Victoria Harbour. The night breeze was slightly cool, ruffling his hair.
"Qian Zai," Zhou Huimin's voice came from behind, "why are you here alone?"
Xiang Qian did not turn around, merely saying softly, "Thinking about some things."
Zhou Huimin walked to his side and handed him a cup of hot coffee. "The press conference is tomorrow. Are you nervous?"
Xiang Qian took the coffee; his fingertips accidentally brushed her hand, and both of them were slightly stunned.
"It's fine," he took a sip of coffee, "but what about you? Have you decided on the album name?"
Zhou Huimin gazed at the distant neon lights and said softly, "I want to call it 'Starlight'."
"'Starlight'?"
"Mm," she turned her head to look at Xiang Qian, her eyes shining brightly in the night, "just like these songs you wrote for me, illuminating my musical path like starlight."
Xiang Qian looked into her eyes, momentarily speechless. The night breeze brushed past, carrying the saltiness of the seawater and the faint fragrance from her hair.
The next morning, the banquet hall of the Peninsula Hotel was packed with reporters.
"Mr. Wu," a reporter with glasses raised his hand to ask, "I heard that you personally handled all the lyrics and music for this album, and it was done in just a few short days. Is that true?"
Xiang Qian sat on the stage, his expression calm: "It is true."
A sudden uproar erupted below.
"This is too incredible!" another female reporter exclaimed, "Can you reveal the creative inspiration?"
Xiang Qian's gaze accidentally swept over Zhou Huimin sitting beside him: "Inspiration given by life."
Zhou Huimin sensed his gaze, and the tips of her ears turned slightly red.
When it was Zhou Huimin's turn, the reporters were even more enthusiastic.
"Young Lady Zhou, the lyrics of the song 'The One I Love for a Lifetime' are very moving. Did you have any special feelings while singing it?"
Zhou Huimin held the microphone, her voice gentle: "Every time I sing this song, I think of..." she paused, "I think of some very beautiful scenes."
One week later, the albums were officially released.
'Rebirth' and 'Starlight' swept across major music charts with the force of thunder. In radio stations, on streets and alleys, songs from these two albums were playing everywhere.
"It's too crazy!" Sun Li rushed into the office holding sales reports, "First-day sales broke the record! 'Let Me Be Happy, Let Me Be Worried' and 'The One I Love for a Lifetime' have already topped the first and second spots on the charts!"
Zhou Huimin clapped her hands happily: "That's great!"
Xiang Qian, however, appeared distracted, staring at his phone the whole time.
"Qian Zai?" Zhou Huimin touched his arm, "What's wrong?"
Xiang Qian locked his phone screen: "Nothing."
In the evening, Xiang Qian walked alone on the streets of Tsim Sha Tsui. The audio shops on the street were playing 'Fong Yuen Kaap'; the powerful rhythm made passersby stop.
"Qian Zai."
At this moment, someone chased up from behind and patted his shoulder. Turning his head to look, it turned out to be Jackie Chan.
"Big Brother, how did you get here?"
"I just asked A Min, and she said you might be over here. Congratulations, the album sold massively. By the way, my senior brother Hung Chin-Pao wants to see you. Are you free?"
"Of course I'm free," Xiang Qian said with a smile, "Big Brother's senior brother is my Big Brother too."
Jackie Chan instantly laughed upon hearing him say that. "Alright, I'll take you to see him tomorrow. At this time, he's probably at the film set."
"Okay, Big Brother," Xiang Qian said to Jackie Chan again, "By the way, can you come to help with the music video for 'Fong Yuen Kaap'?"
"No problem," Jackie Chan answered, patting his own chest.
