Chapter 82: My Heart Will Go On
At two in the morning, the recording studio in Wing Sang Building was still lit.
Xiang Fei sat at the piano, his slender fingers resting lightly on the keys as a lilting melody flowed out. He frowned slightly, as though something was missing.
"Still not enough…" he murmured to himself, picking up a fountain pen and swiftly revising the notes on the staff paper.
Outside the window, the neon lights of Xiangjiang reflected on the side of his face; his gaze was focused and deep.
《MyHeartWillGoOn》
He wrote down the title, the pen tip pausing for a beat, then continued composing.
At five in the morning, Xiang Fei finally set down his pen and rubbed his aching temples.
The coffee on the piano had long gone cold, and the ashtray was piled high with cigarette butts. He stood up, walked to the recording equipment, put on the headphones, and pressed play.
The piano's prelude began softly, followed by the distant sound of bagpipes, as if carrying the listener through time and space, back to that legendary great ship.
Xiang Fei closed his eyes, and the film's images surfaced in his mind—Rose standing at the bow, the sea wind lifting her long hair, Jack gently embracing her from behind…
"That's the feeling," he said softly.
At nine in the morning, Zhou Huimin pushed open the studio door and found Xiang Fei asleep on the sofa, a few sheets of music still clutched in his hand.
She walked over quietly, picked up the score and glanced at it, then froze.
《MyHeartWillGoOn》
She tried humming a few lines, and her eyes gradually welled with tears.
"Ah Fei…" she called softly.
Xiang Fei opened his eyes, saw it was her, and smiled faintly: "Vivian, you're here."
Zhou Huimin lifted the score in her hand: "Did you write this?"
"Mm, just finished it last night." He sat up, his voice still carrying a trace of fatigue. "I want you to sing it."
Zhou Huimin hesitated: "This song… it's too beautiful. I'm afraid I won't do it justice."
Xiang Fei took her hand, his gaze steady: "Only you can sing its soul."
Afternoon, inside the recording studio.
Zhou Huimin put on her headphones, stood before the microphone, and drew a deep breath.
The prelude began; she closed her eyes and softly sang the first line—
"Every night in my dreams, I see you, I feel you…"
Her voice was clear and tender, as if carrying an endless longing.
The sound engineer and the staff all stopped what they were doing and listened in silence.
Xiang Fei stood at the control desk, his gaze focused, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly.
When Zhou Huimin reached the chorus—
"Near, far, wherever you are, I believe that the heart does go on…"
The entire studio seemed enveloped by an invisible force; everyone held their breath.
When the song ended, Zhou Huimin slowly opened her eyes and found the studio utterly silent.
She looked at Xiang Fei uneasily: "How was it? Should we record it again?"
Xiang Fei stepped forward and gently embraced her: "No need. It's perfect."
The sound engineer took off his headphones and sighed: "Sister Vivian, this song… it's so moving."
Zhou Huimin's eyes reddened: "It's because Ah Fei's song is so well written."
Xiang Fei shook his head: "It's your voice that gave it life."
That evening, Xiang Qiang came to the studio, and Xiang Fei played him the finished demo.
As the music began, Xiang Qiang's stern expression gradually softened.
When the song ended, he was silent for a long moment before speaking: "This song… will become a classic."
Xiang Fei nodded: "It will be remembered by the whole world, along with the film."
Xiang Qiang clapped him on the shoulder: "Ah Fei, you always know how to surprise me."
Over the next few days, Zhou Huimin spent every day in the studio, polishing every detail over and over.
"The emotion in this line could go deeper," she told the sound engineer.
Xiang Fei stood nearby, watching her focused profile, a warm feeling rising in his heart.
"Vivian, don't be too hard on yourself," he said softly.
Zhou Huimin shook her head: "This is your heart's work. I have to do my very best."
A week later, the final version of 《MyHeartWillGoOn》 was officially completed.
Xiang Fei and Zhou Huimin sat in the studio, quietly listening to the finished product.
When the song ended, Zhou Huimin leaned on his shoulder and said softly: "Ah Fei, this song… will accompany many people through their lives, won't it?"
Xiang Fei took her hand: "Just like the film, it will become an eternal memory."
The next day, Xiang Fei told everyone: "For this scene, we'll use 《MyHeartWillGoOn》 as the background music."
When the melody began, everyone on set stopped what they were doing, immersed in that deep tenderness.
Cai Shaofen's eyes reddened: "This song… it's so perfect for this film."
Qian Xiaohao nodded: "With it, the film's soul is complete."
Night fell, and Xiang Fei and Zhou Huimin stood on the rooftop of Wing Sang Building, gazing out at Victoria Harbour in the distance.
"Ah Fei, thank you for letting me sing this song," Zhou Huimin said softly.
Xiang Fei smiled: "I should be the one thanking you, for giving it life."
The sea breeze swept past, carrying a salty, damp scent, as if telling the story of that love that transcended time and space.
And the melody of 《MyHeartWillGoOn》 would forever linger in people's hearts…
