Chapter 91: Tang Renjie Script Final Draft

~5 min read 862 words

Morning sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains into the bedroom; Xiang Fei gently moved his arm away from Zhou Huimin and rose quietly. He turned back to look at his sleeping lover, an involuntary smile tugging at his lips. After finishing the script for "Tang Renjie Detective" last night, he had finally gotten a good night's sleep.

"Hey, Fatty, get over to my place right now." Xiang Fei dialed Wang Jing's number, his tone leaving no room for refusal.

On the other end of the line, Wang Jing's voice came out muffled: "Brother Fei, it's only half past six..."

"No excuses. You've got ten minutes." Xiang Fei hung up and turned toward the kitchen to brew coffee.

Twenty minutes later, the doorbell rang. Wang Jing, hair disheveled and eyes puffy, clutched a notebook tightly in his hand. "Ah Fei, what's the emergency?" He yawned, but his gaze was already locked on the script on the coffee table.

Xiang Fei pushed a steaming cup of coffee toward him: "Take a look."

Wang Jing flipped open the script, his drowsiness vanishing instantly: "'Tang Renjie Detective'?" He skimmed through the plot, his eyes brightening with each passing line, "A genius detective and a street-smart uncle? This pairing is perfect!"

"I'm planning to cast Uncle Da as Tang Ren," Xiang Fei sipped his coffee, his tone casual.

Wang Jing shot up in surprise: "Ng Man-tat?" He slammed his palm on the table in delight, "Perfect! Uncle Da's sleazy-yet-loyal acting style was made for this role!"

Xiang Fei nodded: "As for Qin Feng..."

"Who are you thinking? Liang Chaowei? Liu Furong?" Wang Jing flipped through the script excitedly, "This high-intelligence detective role will test any actor's skill..."

"Me." Xiang Fei set down his coffee cup, his tone absolute.

Wang Jing's hand froze midair, his eyes wide: "Huh?"

"What? You have a problem?" Xiang Fei raised an eyebrow.

Wang Jing swallowed hard, his eyes darting around: "No... Ah Fei, your acting is obviously flawless, it's just..." He chose his words carefully, "You've always played roles like God of Gamblers—suddenly switching to a cold, genius detective..."

Xiang Fei sneered: "So you think I can't pull it off?"

"No no no!" Wang Jing waved his hands frantically, "I mean... this contrast will be the film's biggest selling point! The audience will love it!"

Xiang Fei finally nodded in satisfaction: "You handle the rest of the cast yourself. I won't interfere."

Wang Jing's eyes lit up: "All the supporting roles are up to me?"

"Mm." Xiang Fei leaned back on the sofa. "You can cast your girlfriends as Landlady Xiang."

Wang Jing's face broke into a wide grin, his fat cheeks bunching together: "Brother Fei, you're brilliant! I've got a few newcomers I want to push..." He rubbed his hands together, already plotting which girlfriend to assign.

"But..." Xiang Fei added suddenly, "They must have real acting ability. Don't shove in eye candy."

Wang Jing patted his chest confidently: "Don't worry! Every actor I train is a powerhouse!" He leaned in with a sly grin, "Want to see some photos? All of them have long legs..."

Xiang Fei threw a pillow straight at him: "Get out!"

Wang Jing dodged nimbly, clutching the script like a treasured relic: "Then... what about the action scenes?"

"Add some, but don't go overboard." Xiang Fei rubbed his temples. "Focus on the logic of the investigations."

Wang Jing nodded eagerly, already visualizing thrilling sequences in his mind.

At noon, Xiang Fei met Ng Man-tat in the company conference room to sign the contract.

"Uncle Da, have you read the script?" Xiang Fei greeted him with a smile.

Ng Man-tat waved the script in his hand: "I read it! Tang Ren is fascinating—full of nonsense but deeply loyal. Playing him will be a blast!"

"Good." Xiang Fei clapped his shoulder. "By the way, do you know who's playing Qin Feng?"

Ng Man-tat asked curiously: "Who?"

"Me." Xiang Fei pointed to himself.

Ng Man-tat blinked, then burst into laughter: "Brilliant! You play the cold genius detective, I play the street scoundrel—this pairing will spark fireworks!"

The two men exchanged smiles, both filled with anticipation for the film.

That night, when Xiang Fei returned home, Zhou Huimin was preparing dinner. Seeing the uncontainable excitement on his face, she smiled and asked: "Everything arranged?"

Xiang Fei nodded: "Uncle Da loves his role, and Fatty has accepted the director's job."

"You're really going to act in it yourself?" Zhou Huimin ladled soup into a bowl for him.

"Of course." Xiang Fei took the bowl. "I've been crafting this character for a long time. No one understands Qin Feng better than I do."

Zhou Huimin gazed at him tenderly: "Then give it your all. I believe you can do it."

Xiang Fei took her hand: "With your support, I'm willing to try anything."

In the quiet of night, Xiang Fei stood on the balcony, gazing at the night view of Victoria Harbour. He was already envisioning every detail of the film. This movie, blending mystery, comedy, and action, would become another milestone in his acting career.

"Just wait and see," he murmured softly, "'Tang Renjie Detective' will leave everyone stunned."
