Chapter 600: Information Agency
"How are things progressing?"
Chen Jiajun looked at the newspaper and said to the Information Officer.
The Information Officer smiled and said, "That guy Dubonrich is truly an old fox; Nathan and his team almost failed in setting the trap. Fortunately, that woman named Sophie used information about Pearson Aviation to get him on the hook!"
Chen Jiajun laughed immediately: "Hahaha, this Dubonrich really has 'true love' for Pearson! Is he still so obsessed even after getting the other party's blueprints?"
The Information Officer smiled and said, "Both of them came out of Yale, but when Pearson was young, he bullied Dubonrich, so..."
"Heh, American tradition, campus bullying!" Chen Jiajun curled his lips in disdain: "No wonder there are so many school shootings."
The Information Officer scratched his head and said to Chen Jiajun, "I always feel that this Dubonrich is not so easy to deal with."
Chen Jiajun turned his gaze back to the newspaper and said indifferently, "If Nathan Ford didn't even have a contingency plan, I would really have to doubt the judgment of IYS Insurance."
"By the way, why do I find this professional con artist named Sophie somewhat familiar?"
The Information Officer frowned and said, "This woman named Sophie has a very vague background. Even we can only find information about her from the last few years; as for anything further back, it's a complete blank!"
"It seems... as if some force has directly erased the news about her. I suspect she might have connections to several intelligence agencies."
Chen Jiajun said with some surprise, "Oh? That's a bit interesting!"
Two days later, early in the morning.
Nathan and the others were setting up in front of an office building.
Since they intended to use the Nigerians, they had to put on a full performance.
It was just that Nathan and his team hadn't expected Dubonrich to not play by the rules.
He actually arrived at the office building an hour early.
Nathan, who was keeping watch outside, immediately notified Sophie: "Sophie, he's here!"
Sophie, who was busy, felt terrible upon hearing this: "What? No, I'm not ready yet!"
"If you don't meet him in the lobby immediately, he'll check the office directory in the building! Guys, our company isn't in the directory!" Nathan said anxiously.
"Why isn't it?" Spencer asked an idiotic question.
Hardison rolled his eyes, speechless, and said, "I don't know, probably... because we're a fake company!"
Sophie immediately walked quickly toward the elevator bank, but unfortunately, the elevator wouldn't come up for a long time, and she said anxiously, "I can't wait for the elevator!"
Upon hearing this, Nathan stood up directly, pulled out a baton, and said, "Fine, I'll distract him!"
Saying that, Nathan grabbed the baton in his hand and smashed it against the window of a car parked on the side of the road.
The windows of several cars were smashed in succession, emitting shrill alarm sounds that almost merged into one; this immediately attracted the attention of many people, including, of course, Dubonrich.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Parker ran over to support Sophie.
She put her usual rappelling gear on Sophie, then took Sophie and jumped straight down from the stairwell on the tenth floor.
It scared Sophie into letting out a scream! Fortunately, they were fast enough; Sophie reached the lobby of the office building within ten seconds and found Dubonrich.
This guy was just about to enter the company name for a search.
Seeing Sophie come over, Dubonrich smiled and said, "You really are glowing!"
Sophie was just scared, so she could only explain, "I'm just too excited."
Sophie's timely arrival resolved this crisis, allowing everyone to breathe a sigh of relief.
After all, whether this matter could succeed depended crucially on the trap set today.
Sophie invited Dubonrich into the elevator, and inside the elevator, Sophie suddenly said, "One thing to note: those gentlemen who provided you with the opportunity to cooperate with the African government, they hope to receive some... compensation. Of course, this doesn't count as a bribe!"
Dubonrich immediately revealed a knowing smile: "A middleman commission."
"That's exactly what it means!" Sophie said with a smile.
However, Dubonrich asked curiously, "Isn't your job to prevent corruption and illegal profiteering?"
Sophie explained, "No, my job is to keep it within a certain range."
Dubonrich nodded immediately, showing a look of understanding.
And in the office upstairs, Spencer pretended to be a janitor and changed the office sign.
After all, they were setting a trap for two parties this time; first, they used Dubonrich's name to make an appointment with the Nigerians.
Then, they used a fictitious company to arrange for Dubonrich to meet with the Nigerians.
Nathan's arrangement was quite clever; soon, Sophie brought Dubonrich to meet with the Nigerians.
After both sides discussed the details, Dubonrich secretly slipped in a check.
And the Nigerians also returned a portion of the "commission" to Dubonrich.
The conversation between the two sides looked very pleasant, which meant Nathan's plan had succeeded.
After sending off Dubonrich and the Nigerians, Nathan and the others walked out of the office building.
Nathan said to Sophie, "Did you handle him?"
Sophie said confidently, "Everything is under control!"
"Very good, let's get out of here; there's still a lot to do tomorrow!"
However, before leaving, Sophie said to Nathan with some worry, "Will the plan succeed?"
"Absolutely no problem!" Nathan said very confidently.
"Boss, it seems there's a slight problem on Nathan's end!" The Information Officer had been observing Nathan and the others' actions, then returned to report to Chen Jiajun: "That cunning guy Dubonrich seems to have discovered some issues! Should we intervene?"
Chen Jiajun said without looking up, "You underestimate the IYS insurance investigator too much!"
"Ah?" The Information Officer said, feeling a bit confused: "But..."
Chen Jiajun said indifferently, "Since that Nathan dares to do this, he has absolute certainty! If you underestimate him, you will suffer for it!"
"But... Dubonrich seems to have discovered the wiretap they installed." The Information Officer frowned and said: "Dubonrich is more cunning than imagined!"
"How do you know this wasn't arranged by Neisen and the others?" Chen Jiajun said helplessly, "Have some patience. Don't jump to conclusions before things have fully played out. Especially when dealing with these clever people!"
"Silva is already very old; he can't always help you clean up your messes. If this guy kicks the bucket, does that mean I have to teach you how to do things every single time?"
What gave Chen Jiajun the biggest headache right now was the issue with his own intelligence agency.
Although his subordinates, the imp slaves, were capable and loyal, their minds were a bit too simple.
Even though they controlled a massive intelligence agency, in the end, they only knew how to follow orders.
As for the people Silva had personally trained, the personnel were too mixed, and there were quite a few plants inserted by other intelligence agencies, whom Chen Jiajun simply dared not trust.
That was why Silva, this old veteran, had been dragged along until now without retiring.
Chen Jiajun sighed, let the Information Officer under his command withdraw first, rubbed his brow, and continued looking at the documents.
……
On the other side, Dubonrich found his assistant to help.
The assistant was already terrified and hurriedly refused, "This is simply too crazy; the risk is too great! Our plan to steal the design blueprints was already risky enough..."
"Shut up, come with me!" Dubonrich pulled his assistant to his office, then bent down to look at the "bug" under his desk.
The assistant's incessant chatter stopped abruptly. Dubonrich saw the shock in the assistant's eyes, then told him not to make a sound and led him out of the office.
"What is that?" the assistant said in surprise.
Dubonrich sneered and said, "A bug. They can eavesdrop on every word I've said!"
"Who are 'they'?" the assistant asked, confused.
Dubonrich took out a photo, which he had taken when he hired a private investigator to tail Sophie.
The photo happened to show the scene of Sophie talking with Neisen.
"What do you think?" Dubonrich said triumphantly to his subordinate, "I also checked; there is no office for the African Trade Alliance in this city at all! They are setting me up; I am very clear about their intentions! The truth will naturally come to light tomorrow! Now go notify the Federal Bureau of Investigation!"
The assistant nodded hurriedly: "Yes, sir!"
The next day, at the Bering Airlines shareholders' meeting.
Dubonrich's assistant was still somewhat worried; after all, if things blew up, he would have to suffer the consequences too.
So he confirmed repeatedly, "Do you really know their intentions?"
"They are very annoyed and are trying every possible way to make me pay the price!" Dubonrich said triumphantly, "How could there be such a coincidence? Just in time for the shareholders' meeting, bugs, a fake office, cash bribes, and what else—Nigerians."
"Good heavens! And Nigerians, this is just like a pathetic email scam, and they even dragged in Nigerian bank fraud letters. Do they really think I'm a fool? To let them lead me by the nose? They will soon find out they are dead wrong!"
Dubonrich's eyes flashed with a playful glint; all he had to do now was wait for Sophie to come to him.
Meanwhile, Neisen and the others had gotten some clothes and left.
As for Sophie, she had already met with the Nigerian delegation.
Both sides arrived together at the Bering Airlines reception.
Dubonrich saw those somewhat reserved black men and said directly to Sophie, "Why don't we go get things done now?"
"Now?" Sophie appeared somewhat surprised.
"Yes!"
"Have the funds been gathered?"
"Of course!" A playful smile appeared on Dubonrich's face, "We can complete the transaction, and then I will issue an announcement to add color to the front-page headlines. No need to waste time here; I'll take them to the conference room! Go, hurry up!"
Sophie paused for a moment and then said to Dubonrich, "I'll be right back!"
Soon, Sophie walked up to those Nigerians and said something, and both sides went to the conference room.
After both sides sat down, the Nigerian representative said, "I think the terms of the contract are clear to both parties!"
Dubonrich, looking like he had victory in his grasp, said, "What I want to say is, the real contract terms are... this!"
As he spoke, Dubonrich pressed a button on the phone, and soon a group of people burst into the conference room.
The person in the lead shouted loudly, "FBI, nobody move! Gentlemen, are you alright?"
Dubonrich thought the FBI was talking to him and said triumphantly, "Thanks for your concern, things are going smoothly!"
But soon he realized something was wrong; the FBI agents were not controlling the group of Nigerians, but instead had surrounded him.
Two FBI agents even grabbed Dubonrich's arms, preparing to arrest him.
Dubonrich was stunned: "What are you doing? Wait, hold on, let me go!"
Seeing that this guy had something to say, the FBI agent waved his hand and let him go.
Dubonrich said unhappily, "What are you looking at me for? The criminals are sitting over there, look at them! Listen, it was I who notified Special Agent Higgins; you can call to verify..."
But at this moment, the lead agent directly flashed his badge: "I am Special Agent Higgins! Victor Dubenlichi, you are under arrest for suspected bribery of Nigerian government officials."
Dubonrich panicked instantly: "I didn't! They aren't Nigerians at all!"
But at this moment, the Nigerian representative walked over directly and took out his passport: "Who says we aren't?"
Two consecutive reversals left Dubonrich completely bewildered; he shook his head and said in disbelief, "No, that's not right..."
The Nigerian representative said coldly, "Your female subordinate knew when she contacted us last week..."
"My female subordinate?" Dubonrich reacted immediately: "Anna?"
At this moment, Dubonrich looked toward the doorway, but where could he still see any sign of Sophie?
Dubonrich hurriedly explained to Special Agent Higgins, "Listen, that Anna is one of them!"
"Nonsense!" The Nigerian representative denied this claim on the spot, "She approached us in your name; she said she could represent you with full authority!"
Dubonrich's mouth hung open: "No, that's impossible! She took me to your office!"
"No, we don't have an office in this city!" the Nigerian representative said firmly, "We met her at your company!"
Dubonrich was struck as if by lightning, and he was completely dumbfounded.
However, he couldn't afford to sort this out, because today was the shareholders' meeting.
He immediately rushed downstairs, intending to stabilize the company's shareholders first.
At this moment, a large number of police cars rushed toward Bering Airlines, causing all the shareholders to look at each other in dismay.
The company's president grabbed Dubonrich and asked sternly, "What on earth is going on?"
For a moment, Dubonrich did not know how to explain it, and said with a panicked expression, "Listen to me, Tom, this is a complete misunderstanding!"
But Agent Higgins would not give Dubonrich any face, and shouted to the crowd, "Is there anyone else involved in the bribery case?"
Hearing Higgins's words, the group of shareholders immediately looked at each other in dismay.
The representative from Nigeria also stepped up and dealt Dubonrich another blow: "I gave this guy an envelope containing a cash check for two hundred thousand!"
Dubonrich immediately denied it: "No, that's not true! I didn't take it... I..."
As he spoke, Dubonrich suddenly remembered a very serious matter.
It was the "kickback" he had given to Sophie when he spoke with her earlier.
Higgins said coldly, "If you haven't cashed the check, that's still optimistic!"
"I didn't!"
"Do you still have the check?"
"I never received a check at all!"
At this time, another FBI agent walked over: "Sir, we sent people to search the Laboratory, and have seized the documents and computers!"
"Well done!" Higgins nodded.
Dubonrich immediately called out to Higgins: "Higgins, you can't do this! You cannot take my computers."
Higgins turned his head with a hint of amusement and said to Dubonrich, "Your company signed a defense treaty, and the foreign-related clauses within it are very serious; the Patriot Act applies here!"
"Sir, I could even take your underwear right now!"
Dubonrich turned his head to look at the Nigerian, and for a moment, he was at a complete loss.
Seeing that the situation was bad, Dubonrich's assistant immediately rushed back to the Laboratory and had his subordinates start shredding the company's documents.
After all, Dubonrich's plans were somewhat unsavory, especially to the FBI.
And at this time, Neisen led his team of master thieves, changed into FBI uniforms, and ransacked Dubonrich's office, not only retrieving the stolen hard drive but also adding a little "something" for Dubonrich. (End of chapter)
