Chapter 28: Bat Nest, Female Ghost
After the two discussed it, they followed Captain Lou to the church behind the mountain. The vampire was the church's previous pastor; the reason he became a vampire seemed to be that he betrayed his faith for love, so he was killed by another priest. Father Qi was infected with the vampire virus and committed suicide.
Now, several nuns have arrived at the church to reopen it. The plump woman is the Mother Superior, Maria, and the other five beautiful girls are newly graduated nuns.
They were in the middle of putting a cross on the church when they were interrupted by Captain Lou. Captain Lou is a good-for-nothing, and he intended to bully Mother Superior Maria, but he almost got himself into trouble instead.
Fortunately, Daoist Priest Da Yi and Zhang Cheng arrived in time. Daoist Priest Da Yi immediately snatched the gun from Maria's hand and explained the purpose of their visit.
Although Mother Superior Maria agreed to let them search inside, she did not allow the soldiers to enter, so Zhang Cheng and Daoist Priest Da Yi followed Mother Superior Maria inside to inspect.
Soon, they found the priest's meditation room. Daoist Priest Da Yi used a little trick, and with Maria's help, they walked into this meditation room.
After listening to Maria's account, he was even more certain that his junior brother was not wrong. It seemed there really was a vampire, but judging from the scene, the priest should have defeated the vampire.
Zhang Cheng saw his senior brother's doubt, so he gave him a look. He then got up and went to another small room, where he looked up and saw dense clusters of bats.
He hurriedly shouted, "Senior brother, the bats are here!"
Maria ran over first, saw the pile of bats, and exclaimed in surprise, "Lord, how can there be so many bats? They are filthy things and must be destroyed."
As soon as she finished speaking, Zhang Cheng spat out a mouthful of Samadhi True Fire. The bats above were all set ablaze and soon turned to ashes.
"Killed a group of vampire familiars, gained 300 merit."
Maria looked at Zhang Cheng in surprise and said, "You... you are..."
Zhang Cheng smiled and said, "This is the magic of our country."
Maria nodded and said, "Is that so? A young man like you should believe in the Lord; that way you will be even more powerful."
Zhang Cheng frowned, quite displeased, and said, "Madam, if you want to preach here, you had better understand the local customs. I have my own gods I believe in. Your behavior just now is equivalent to me asking you to forget your Lord and believe in my gods."
Mother Superior Maria wanted to retort, but she understood she was wrong, so she apologized, "I'm sorry, it was my fault just now. Please forgive me."
Zhang Cheng nodded slightly and then said to Daoist Priest Da Yi, "Senior brother, let's go."
The two left the basement. As soon as they got up to the church, they saw A-Hao and A-Fang showing off their magic to tease the nuns.
Daoist Priest Da Yi only felt they were disappointing and not living up to his expectations. He stepped forward and slapped each of them, saying, "You two good-for-nothings, you still have time to tease girls? That's enough!"
A-Hao and A-Fang immediately said goodbye to the nuns with aggrieved expressions.
On the way, Zhang Cheng said to Daoist Priest Da Yi, "Senior brother, you go help Village Chief Wu and the others find a water source first. The whereabouts of that vampire will likely take some effort to track down."
Although Zhang Cheng knew where the vampire was, he couldn't just point it out directly; it was mainly difficult to explain.
Daoist Priest Da Yi asked, "Junior brother, why are you so sure that foreign ghost is still around?"
Zhang Cheng smiled and explained, "It's because of those bats. Among Western monsters, if a vampire dies, its familiars will also die. But now, a large group of bats is still alive, which shows that the vampire is not dead. So I think that Father Qi did not kill the vampire, but only sealed it."
After hearing this, Daoist Priest Da Yi nodded and said, "So that's how it is. Junior brother is truly remarkable and knowledgeable; you even know about Western ghosts."
Zhang Cheng laughed, "A few years ago, before I met Senior Brother Ying, I traveled all over the country,
I went to the Shanghai Bund and met foreigners, so I know quite a few things."
Daoist Priest Da Yi nodded in approval, but seeing his two disciples, he couldn't help but sigh.
A moment later, Daoist Priest Da Yi took out some red rope and a compass to find a water source for Wu Jia Cun. He soon determined the spot to dig, though they would have to wait until the afternoon to start.
After setting the location, Zhang Cheng accompanied Daoist Priest Da Yi as they left. Once everyone was gone, a group of bats flew out, picked up the marker, and placed it above the vampire.
Zhang Cheng knew this, so he didn't give a warning; he just waited for those people to dig the vampire out.
In the evening, they returned to the Daoist hall. A-Hao and A-Fang were still up to no good and wanted to steal money. This time, Daoist Priest Da Yi was preparing to take a bath, so A-Hao and A-Fang succeeded.
Daoist Priest Da Yi finally heard the sound of money and hurried out to look. As a result, A-Hao and A-Fang took a few silver dollars and ran off immediately. Daoist Priest Da Yi wanted to chase them, but he was only wearing his undergarments and shorts, so he could only make some empty threats.
He didn't dare to curse too loudly for fear of losing face in front of Zhang Cheng.
At night, A-Hao and A-Fang came running back, shouting and yelling, while Zhang Cheng and Daoist Priest Da Yi were eating a big meal, and the little zombie on the side was also sucking on a fresh tomato.
Hearing his two disciples shouting, Daoist Priest Da Yi was furious and picked up a bench, intending to teach them both a lesson.
A-Hao hurriedly shouted, "Master, wait a moment, there's a female ghost that followed us back!"
Daoist Priest Da Yi poked his head out to look and laughed, "Ah... there's a female ghost? That's perfect, you can solve it yourselves."
Having said that, he chased the two out and closed the door.
Zhang Cheng laughed, "Senior brother, won't this cause trouble?"
Daoist Priest Da Yi took a sip of wine and said contentedly, "No worries, it's fine. Today I'm enjoying the good fortune thanks to you, junior brother."
The two ate for a while, and A-Hao started shouting again. Daoist Priest Da Yi glanced through the window and immediately realized something was wrong. He immediately grabbed a probe, stuck a spirit talisman on it, rushed into the courtyard, and lured the female ghost out of A-Fang's body and into a jar.
Daoist Priest Da Yi said sternly, "A-Fang, even if you know, don't talk nonsense, so as not to cause trouble. However, you must find the corpse of this female ghost."
Zhang Cheng did not intervene. This matter was not a big problem for A-Hao and A-Fang; the main problem now was still solving that vampire.
The next day, Zhang Cheng said to Daoist Priest Da Yi, "Senior brother, let's go to Wu Jia Cun and take another look."
Although Daoist Priest Da Yi did not understand the meaning, he still came to the Wu Jia Cun water source construction site with Zhang Cheng. Here, Captain Lou was accompanying Wu Xiaoru as she practiced riding a bicycle.
They watched for a while, then heard a worker shouting there, "Captain, we found something here!"
Upon hearing this, Zhang Cheng immediately ran over. He saw the scripture book covered in mud, as well as a clay figurine. He thought to himself: I've found you!
