Chapter 410: The Thwarted King Jin
Li Xin slapped his chest boldly: "No problem, this is Uncle Tong taking care of my business; I, A Xin, when I go into business, rely on three things being plentiful."
"What?"
Shadan Tong asked curiously.
Li Xin held up three fingers: "One, I have many brothers; two, still many brothers; three,..."
Before Li Xin could finish, Shadan Tong interjected: "Still, damn many brothers, right?"
Li Xin shook his head: "The remaining one is plenty of bullets; whoever wants it, I can give them a bit more."
Well, originally Li Xin's third point was also many brothers, but Shadan Tong always beats him to the answer; if he were to nod in acknowledgement.
Wouldn't that look rather foolish?
Shadan Tong looked at Li Xin, speechlessly shaking his head, pointing at him and saying: "You! You!"
The next morning, Kowloon Total District Serious Crime Unit Office.
Chen Sir sat properly opposite Li Jie, tapping the documents and asking: "Mr. Li, your file shows you have a personal grudge against the doctors' organization; regarding those three shots, what do you have to say?"
Li Jie, that is Da Dan, took a sip of coffee and replied leisurely: "Officer, Mr. Li entrusted that gun to me for safekeeping, to be used as evidence."
"That gun belongs to the doctors; everyone knows that."
"But the doctors suddenly lashed out, trying to seize the evidence from my hands; how could that be allowed?"
"This is my first assignment at Hong Xin Security; I can't let the doctors sabotage it, otherwise where would I find such a good job?"
"You've seen my file; as a special forces member, my daily training is all about how to quickly neutralize opponents."
"Due to muscle memory from training, that's why I fired three shots; after all, in situations where we need to act, there's rarely any survivor left—can you understand that?"
Chen Sir glared at Li Jie: "Just go through the motions, where does all this drama come from?"
"Thank you for your answer, Mr. Li; before the case is fully concluded, please don't leave Gangdao; we still need your cooperation."
Li Jie stood up and shook hands with Chen Sir: "All right, officer; you can always find me at Hong Xin Security."
Li Jie left the police station, rode in Xiao Fu's car to Longwei's villa.
As soon as they met, Longwei pressed: "Da Dan, where have you been?"
Da Dan smiled at Longwei: "I'm leaving; from now on you should take care of yourself, or pick up your skills again!"
"Always using a stand-in will eventually be exposed; that'll greatly affect your career."
"Really?"
Longwei grabbed Li Jie's arm, anxiously asking: "Da Dan, where are you headed?"
"If you're not by my side, how can I possibly go on?"
Li Jie comforted: "My wish is fulfilled; if you miss me later, just come to Hong Xin Security to see me."
Longwei knew why Da Dan had come to Gangdao; his saying that meant the great vengeance had been avenged, and he understood the wish.
Moreover, Longwei knew exactly who Hong Xin Security belonged to; he had dealt with Li Xin before and knew he treated his subordinates well.
All he could do was congratulate: "Da Dan, you've avenged your great grudge; I'm genuinely happy for you, so go on!"
Longwei turned back inside, fetched the checkbook, added a figure of one million, and came out to hand it to Li Jie.
"Da Dan, although you normally have a salary, since you're leaving, this is my bonus for you; you should settle down."
Li Jie didn't take the check, instead he hugged Longwei, picked up his luggage, and walked straight out of the villa, following Xiao Fu straight to Sai Kung.
Xiao Fu returned to Sai Kung and hurried straight to Li Xin's residence, without saying a word, just placing the newspaper in his hands before him.
"Boss! Take a look."
Li Xin first glanced at the newspaper's header, which read "Ming Pao".
After he finished reading, the smile vanished from his face, replaced by a look of icy frost; even Xiao Fu shivered.
There was a kind of fierce little flame flickering uncertainly in Li Xin's eyes.
When that newspaper slipped from his hand and fell to the ground, a striking headline was clearly written on it.
"Ruffian = Tycoon?"
This headline didn't make Li Xin angry; it was the content.
One of the Four Talents of Gangdao, Ni Kuang, wrote an article using a vague Spring‑and‑Autumn style about some hearsay.
The article never mentioned Li Xin's name, yet every sentence was about him.
Li Xin stared at Xiao Fu, furious yet laughing: "Xiao Fu, you say this pen‑pusher—is he fiercer than us knife‑wielders?"
"How could that be?"
Li Xin pointed at the newspaper: "Isn't there one? Just because he's a bit famous he thinks he can do whatever he wants."
"He's just gone mad!"
"Give me one day; I want all the info on this bastard—get moving!"
"Understood!"
After Xiao Fu left, Li Xin puzzled over why this bastard was so obsessed with gains and losses,
daring to provoke him!
561 King's Road, Tsim Sha Tsui.
This is the headquarters building of Ming Pao; following his daily habit, King Jin came to work after finishing his morning tea.
He picked up the newspaper on the desk and glanced at it, mainly checking the layout.
Just a glance, and his sparse hair stood on end—he was startled!
Ni Kuang had gone mad!
The chief editor had also gone mad!
Everyone knows what kind of person Li Xin is; even King Jin is well aware.
He hurriedly called for the secretary and asked anxiously: "Has Chief Editor Sun arrived yet?"
The secretary was puzzled as to why Mr. Jin had asked about the Layout Chief Editor today.
But he still respectfully replied: "Mr. Jin, Chief Editor Sun is not at work today."
"Call him, and send someone to his house; by any means necessary, we must find him."
After the secretary left, Jin Yong picked up the phone and called Shao Lao Liu.
"Liu Ge, I am A Yong; I would like you to help me pass a message to Mr. Li: the report on Ming Pao, I am completely unaware of it, but I will certainly give Mr. Li an explanation."
Shao Lao Liu was also reading the newspaper; upon hearing Jin Yong's words, he understood what was meant.
Frowning, he replied: "For a small matter, A Xin can still give me face, but this matter oversteps the bounds—I am powerless!"
"If it weren't for this kind of Spring-and-Autumn style writing, just stating the facts would be nothing; even when A Xin got engaged, he never hid this."
"But this kind of veiled, fabricated nonsense—he must be furious right now, and I don't want to provoke him."
Shao Lao Liu had already experienced Li Xin's methods back in 1982; he certainly wouldn't, for Jin Yong's sake, bear the wrath of that little bastard.
"Liu Ge! Just passing along a message will do!"
"Alright! I'll only pass on the message—I won't say anything else."
"Thank you!"
Jin Yong hung up the phone; after a while, the secretary came in to report: "Mr. Jin, Chief Editor Sun isn't answering his phone, and the person sent to his residence also called—his family has moved out; according to the neighbors, they all left this morning."
"Fuck your mother!"
Chief Editor Sun's conduct has even broken the defenses of this cultured man, Jin Yong!
