Chapter 15: The Old Witch's Clothing Store

~8 min read 1,450 words

"It's impossible to rely just on gears and steam technology, you know. Do you think you're Y?" Yun Mu muttered to herself.

"What's with that look of disbelief?" The silver-haired Young Girl saw through Yun Mu's thoughts and said with a hint of dissatisfaction in her tone.

"That's not right, I clearly didn't have any expression on my face!" Yun Mu thought in surprise.

"Heh heh, don't even think about it. Because every time I finish saying that, no one believes me, so I can guess what you're thinking even with my eyes closed."

"."

"If there's nothing else, I'll be going now," Yun Mu said expressionlessly.

"Wait!"

The Young Girl called out to Yun Mu, who was just about to leave: "Do you know who I am?"

Yun Mu frowned, feeling a sense of foreboding in her heart.

She walked out of Frost Bank without looking back, saying rapidly: "I don't want to know who you are, I just came here to withdraw money. I didn't see anything today, so a big shot like you shouldn't concern yourself with a small fry like me. Goodbye!"

"Hey, listen to me finish first!"

"It's not anything dangerous!"

"Come back!"

"I'll pay you a salary, how about 100 Gold Frost Coins!?"

"Hiss." Yun Mu's footsteps paused slightly as she walked forward. Seeing this, the Young Girl's face lit up with joy and she shouted again: "200 Gold Frost Coins, if you agree, I'll give you 50 right now!"

"When do we start?" Yun Mu turned around quickly and shook the Young Girl's hand enthusiastically.

"."

The Young Girl's mouth twitched slightly. She avoided the hand Yun Mu had grabbed with an Immovable expression and said: "Don't be so impatient."

"Tomorrow night, come find me here after 12 o'clock, and I'll tell you what to do then."

"Can we change the time?"

"Why?"

"It's late at night, I'm afraid you're plotting something against me."

"Pfft." The Young Girl was actually amused to laughter by Yun Mu.

"What could I possibly plot against you? Is there anything about you worth plotting?" she said, looking at Yun Mu, whose entire outfit combined was likely not even worth one Gold Frost.

"."

That was a heart-stabbing remark. Thinking about it carefully, it was true; if the other party really wanted to plot against her, they could do it now—why bother waiting until tomorrow night to go through all that extra trouble?

"Alright, then I'll be going now?" she said.

"I'll see you out," the Young Girl said with a faint smile.

Yun Mu did not refuse—or rather, she had no way to refuse. The two walked to the Gate of Frost Bank.

As soon as the door was pushed open, the guard who had been tricked by Yun Mu earlier lunged to block the entrance, his face dark as he said: "Hmph, to think you dared to play tricks on..."

Before he could finish his sentence, he saw the silver-haired Young Girl following behind Yun Mu.

"I, I..."

The moment he saw the Young Girl, the burly man's expression froze instantly. For a moment, he was incoherent, unable to say a single word.

The white-haired Young Girl ignored the guard and looked at Yun Mu, winking at her.

"I'll see you off here. Remember to come find me tomorrow night."

As she spoke, she took a bag of Gold Frost Coins from her bosom.

"Let's forget about this money for now."

Yun Mu silently pushed the money bag away and said: "I don't even know what you want me to do yet. Let's wait until tomorrow night to talk about it."

"That works too." The silver-haired Young Girl nodded: "Then see you tomorrow night."

"Mm, see you tomorrow night."

Yun Mu nodded, then walked away from Frost Bank at a fast pace.

It was only after she disappeared around the corner of the street that she finally let out a sigh of relief.

"What is all this."

She had only come to the bank to withdraw some money; how did she happen to run into something like this?

That silver-haired Young Girl possessed the technology to create those Bionic Dolls; her status must be either wealthy or noble.

Considering a place like Frost Bank and the guard's reaction when he saw her, the latter possibility was clearly more likely.

She wondered what the other party wanted her to do; she just hoped it wouldn't be anything too troublesome.

Actually, she had wanted to refuse at first, but the other party offered way too much.

She would listen to what it was tomorrow night; if it felt too dangerous, she would just refuse.

After all, no matter how important money was, you couldn't spend it if you were dead.

"Next, it's time to go to the clothing store," Yun Mu thought.

Although there had been some accidents along the way, that didn't affect her original plan.

After all, now that she had money, she couldn't keep walking the streets every day wearing rags and smelling foul.

West side of Frostfall City, Yongle Street.

As the commercial street closest to the western harbor of Frostfall City—Frostfall Port—it was still very lively even at a time when most laborers were still at work.

Sailors who had just returned from the sea gathered in groups of three or five, holding empty wine bottles and boasting loudly about their experiences from the voyage as they walked.

Besides them, there were Pirates disguised as merchants, busy offloading stolen goods, and prostitutes standing by the roadside soliciting customers in revealing clothing, almost ignoring the freezing weather.

"It should be here."

Yun Mu moved through the crowd in a low-profile manner and arrived at the corner of the street, in front of a quaint wooden hut.

This was a building that felt out of place with its surroundings; after all, it was hard for a normal person to imagine that in this icy, snow-covered city where steam engines roared, such a small wooden hut could exist.

On the plaque above the wooden house, the six small characters "Old Witch Clothing Store" were carved.

People on both sides of the street turned a blind eye to this building, and only Yun Mu stared quietly at the name on the wooden house.

Jingle-ling.

Pushing open the wooden door, as the crisp and pleasant bell rang, a warm breath and the scent of various marvelous plants rushed toward her.

"The smell on you is truly terrible; my little darlings are about to be smoked away."

Just as she stepped into the shop, a lazy female voice sounded inside.

Yun Mu looked toward the sound and saw a woman with fair skin, a graceful figure, and wearing a pale green classical long dress sitting behind the counter.

She was currently resting one hand on the counter, and a pair of massive weapons were almost jumping out from her neckline.

A head of bright golden long hair was draped casually behind her, over her shoulders, and onto the counter, while a pair of emerald-green pupils gazed at Yun Mu as calmly as autumn water.

As for the "little darlings" she spoke of, she likely meant the various plants planted in the flowerpots hanging on the walls.

"Welcome, is there anything you want?"

The woman yawned casually and said, as if she had long forgotten that the predecessor had once been here.

"I want to change into a new set of clothes."

Yun Mu moved her gaze away from the other party's conspicuous Elf ears and said.

Yes, the owner of this shop was an Elf, which perhaps also explained why the decoration style of this clothing store was so out of place with the rest of Frostfall City.

Besides, only an Elf proficient in magic could make the people around the street turn a blind eye to this building.

The predecessor had once stumbled upon this place by accident, but at that time, the predecessor was penniless and could not afford any items here at all.

And after leaving, she had never been able to find this place again; even where she had originally discovered it had been forgotten by the predecessor.

It was not until Yun Mu sorted through her memories that she discovered she had actually recalled the location of this place.

PS: The race that first invented magic was the Elves, so in this world, the impression Elves give people is that they are mysterious and powerful.

Furthermore, the public generally believes that all Elves can use magic, as for whether this is actually true...

Note: The first Elf to invent magic was named Laila, and she was also the later Magic God.
