Chapter 157: The Princess is Human Too

~7 min read 1,281 words

"Wow, what a cool train!" Walking into the station, Yun Mu caught sight of the Steam Train parked above the tracks at a single glance.

Unlike the old-fashioned trains she had imagined, this train was iron-black overall, and its sharp-edged body exuded a cold aura of Steel and burning coal.

A ferocious, massive ram was mounted to the front of the train's head, and one could even see some brownish-grey bloodstains on it that were difficult to fade no matter how they were cleaned.

Besides that, there were also a large number of traces left behind from repairs on the train's body and the carriage walls.

Clearly, this was a big guy that had seen some years.

"Let's go in," Brenna said, looking at Yun Mu, who was reaching out to stroke the train's outer shell.

"It's very beautiful, isn't it?" After she walked closer, the other person suddenly said with a smile.

"Indeed, it's very beautiful," Yun Mu nodded, speaking the truth.

This was the first time she had seen a train of this style anywhere other than in works of art.

Honestly, it really felt quite dreamlike.

But perhaps this was a feeling that only she, as an outsider, could experience.

After all, to the people of this world, a train was supposed to look like this in the first place.

"Are those weapons used to prevent Monsters?" Walking into the carriage, Yun Mu asked Brenna curiously.

As mentioned before, the wilderness of this world was extremely dangerous, with a vast number of Monsters.

Most of them were tenacious in life and reproduced extremely quickly.

Even in areas where humans were frequently active, if they were not cleared out regularly, they would affect the lives of ordinary people in a very short time.

A very obvious example was the sewers of Frostfall City.

Because the terrain was complex, even the official personnel did not know exactly how many paths there were.

Every clearing attempt could never be cleaned thoroughly, resulting in giant rats, various slimes, Ooze, and other creatures often leaving the sewers to attack humans on the street.

Such a situation would naturally become even more troublesome in the wilderness.

Almost every time the Steam Train departed, its massive commotion would attract swarms of low-intelligence Monsters.

The un-cleanable bloodstains on the train's head and the patched-up traces on the body were all left behind because of those guys.

"That's right, those weapons are all used to prevent Monsters," Brenna replied upon hearing her words.

Immediately after, she added: "Don't worry, for every Steam Train route, the probability of encountering Monsters will drop significantly after multiple round trips."

"Even if you do encounter them, it basically won't cause much of an impact; the Soldiers traveling with the train will ensure the train's safety."

"I'm not afraid of Monsters," Yun Mu replied subconsciously.

The two walked into a forward carriage; along the way, besides the staff, they could only see seven or eight scattered passengers.

And after arriving at the private carriage Brenna had booked, Yun Mu sat on the carriage sofa and asked Brenna:

"Are there very few people who usually take the Steam Train to go out?"

"I didn't see many people in those carriages just now."

"It is very few," Brenna also sat opposite her and replied.

"Very few people in the city are willing to leave their hometown to live in another city, and for the vast majority of people, simple travel is something they cannot afford."

"The main passengers of the Steam Train are those wealthy nobles or merchants."

Pausing, a smile appeared on the corner of Brenna's mouth as she said: "For nobles, the train provides a comfortable environment and space, as well as train cuisine meticulously prepared by master chefs."

"And for merchants, the train provides them with carriages to store large amounts of supplies, ensuring that even when there are few people, the train's departure can still be profitable."

"Otherwise, who would be willing to risk being attacked by Monsters to connect cities with trains?"

"Can't the train be built underground?" Yun Mu thought of something and asked. "Since it attracts Monsters on the ground, there shouldn't be any danger underground, right?" she said.

"Uh..." Brenna was momentarily speechless. She looked at Yun Mu with a look like she was looking at a fool and said: "Do you know what you're saying?"

"Digging a tunnel that allows a Steam Train to pass through, and connecting every city—the amount of engineering required is so large that it's almost impossible to complete, okay?"

"I was just saying it casually... aren't there Transcendental, magic, and Black Technology and such..." Yun Mu looked to the side and muttered under her breath.

Brenna ignored her, just stood up, walked to the carriage door, and pulled the rope hanging beside the door with her hand.

Ding-a-ling... A crisp alarm sound rang out from above the rope.

Soon, amidst a slightly hurried sound of footsteps, a train attendant wearing a sea-blue round hat, dressed in a uniform similar to an OL, and with her legs wrapped in flesh-colored stockings, pushed open the carriage door and walked over.

"May I ask what the two of you need?" she asked, looking at Brenna and Yun Mu.

"I'd like to order," Brenna said.

"One serving of tomato cabbage hot soup, butter-fried meat, Winter Pie, vegetable salad, two toasted pancakes, and a pot of black tea, please."

Taking the menu from the train attendant's hand, Brenna pointed to the dishes on the menu and said.

"It's your turn," she said, handing the menu to Yun Mu after finishing her order.

"You're eating this much?" Yun Mu first asked casually, then looked at the train attendant and said: "I want two servings of grain bread, one boiled egg, and tomato rolled noodles; as for dessert..."

"Give me two toasted cookies and a large glass of freshly squeezed orange juice."

"O-okay!" The train attendant said, somewhat flustered as she noted down the items the two had ordered.

"The food on this train is quite complete," Yun Mu said with some surprise after the train attendant left.

For a modern person who had subconsciously labeled train meals, airplane meals, and such as unpalatable, this behavior of being able to order food at will on a train was truly quite novel.

"Of course it's complete, otherwise how would they swindle money out of the nobles' hands?"

Brenna suddenly slumped on the sofa and said listlessly: "Ordering food on the train is very expensive. If I weren't starving and there weren't any restaurants open outside, I wouldn't order food on the train."

"..."

After a moment of silence, she suddenly said as if sighing: "If Elena were still here, she would definitely have prepared breakfast for me in advance..."

"It's a pity she's gone."

"Heh heh." With two dry laughs, Brenna blocked her eyes with her arm.

"Do I look very disheveled like this? Not majestic at all... not like a princess at all."

"."

Yun Mu did not reply.

She thought that at a time like this, it was better to let the other person have a moment of quiet; she should recover soon.

But... after a long silence, she still could not hold back and said:

"No, because a princess is also a person."

PS: Perhaps I should let myself have a moment of quiet.

I am actually very clear on this, but I... really cannot keep going anymore.

After today's update, I will update for 14 more days at most this year.

It really isn't working out, I'm sorry.

——Hey, hey, hey, don't run, don't run, take a look at the date!
