Chapter 17: A New Look

~8 min read 1,542 words

After selecting her clothing, Yun Mu returned to the room where she had first entered the clothing store.

Just as she pushed open the wooden door, she saw the female Elf shopkeeper, Mira, sitting on a chair behind the counter, looking down at a certain book.

From her angle, she could just see the content on the pages, but it was not written in the language of the Frost Kingdom, so even though she had reached the content of the book, she did not know what was written on it.

She did not disturb the other person, but stood quietly to the side, waiting silently for the other person to finish reading.

Before long, seemingly remembering that there was still someone in the shop, Mira slowly put down the book in her hand.

"Oh, have you finished selecting?" Mira asked, looking at Yun Mu standing in front of the counter.

"Yes."

Yun Mu nodded, then stated the names of the five items of clothing she had chosen.

When she said the name 【Cat Bracelet】, the look the other person gave her suddenly became a bit strange.

Yun Mu could roughly guess why, but the effect of being able to increase her Destiny Points by one every day was just too tempting; how could she bear to pretend she didn't see it?

"Wait for me here for half an hour." After Yun Mu finished speaking about the five items of clothing she had chosen, Mira stood up from behind the counter and said.

"Okay." Yun Mu nodded, then watched Mira disappear behind a door.

The other person must have gone to alter the sizes of the clothes; she wondered how the magic on those clothes was attached.

She had looked carefully just now and hadn't found any traces of runes or magic arrays on those clothes.

Perhaps the production process was different from what she had imagined.

Yun Mu waited quietly in the room, and after a few minutes, she curiously walked to the counter and looked at the book Mira had just been reading.

Hmm, she couldn't understand the words written on the cover either.

Based on the other person's identity, Yun Mu guessed that this book should be written in Elvish, and she had no idea what the content was.

"Can I check the attributes of this book?"

Suddenly, a thought occurred to Yun Mu.

The moment this thought popped into her mind, it grew uncontrollably; anyway, there wouldn't be any loss, so she might as well try.

Thinking this, she decisively checked the book resting on the counter!

【A Brief History of the God War—A Brief Discussion on the Influence Mortals Could Exert Under the Great Power of Gods (White)】

【After reading for the first time +1 Spell Strength】

【Reading the entire book requires 【Elvish lv3】】

【No one remembers what caused the God War to break out in the first place anymore; it is only described in the records of predecessors.】

【The night was split open by a massive crack from lightning, and the Roar of ancient gods resounded through heaven and earth; in that instant, people could only see an incomparably blinding light.】

【When everything fell silent, a brilliant star fell from the night sky. Its massive body released light and heat like a fireball, then sank into the sea, kicking up ten-thousand-meter waves, and gray-white mist rose, shrouding the horizon.】

"Alright, can't read it."

There was only an opening segment; to read the whole book, one needed to learn Elvish.

She hadn't even learned the language of the Frost Kingdom yet, so where would she find the time to learn Elvish?

"Learning a new language is painful, but being illiterate is even more painful."

Yun Mu secretly made up her mind that when she had the chance later, she must find time to properly learn the language of the Frost Kingdom.

Half an hour passed quickly. During this time, she had wanted to take a look at the flower pots hanging on the walls, but as soon as she thought of the experience of being swallowed earlier, this idea was suppressed by her.

"Creak."

Mira returned carrying a wooden box. She placed the box on the counter and said to Yun Mu: "The sizes of the clothes have all been altered. There is a fitting room on the right; you can go there to change."

"Thank you!"

Yun Mu thanked her, then took the wooden box from Mira's hand and hurried toward the fitting room.

After arriving in the fitting room, she took off all the rags she had been wearing previously, then changed into this more comfortable magical attire.

When she was fully dressed and looked at the mirror in the fitting room again, she was completely stunned.

She saw the Young Girl in the mirror wearing a pure white shirt on her upper body, a light gray short skirt on her lower body, and further down, her slender legs were wrapped in gray-black thermal stockings, paired with a pair of pitch-black Quiet Boots.

The Young Girl was wearing a pitch-black coat with a hem reaching her knees, and her jet-black, beautiful hair was draped casually behind her head.

The traces of her days wandering the streets had completely dissipated, like a shattered phantom, seemingly unable to stir up even the slightest ripple ever again.

Perhaps, from now on, her journey in this other world had only just begun.

"Whew."

Yun Mu let out a soft sigh, then picked up the clothes she had thrown on the floor.

Ah, don't misunderstand; she didn't want to keep them as a souvenir, it just felt bad to leave them at someone else's place. She would find a trash can to throw them into after she left later.

Damn it, don't you dare say "original scent"!

Yun Mu left the fitting room and returned to the initial room.

"Not bad." Seeing Yun Mu come out of the fitting room, Mira praised softly.

"If the clothes get damaged, you can come to me for repairs, but I will charge a fee."

"Also, if you come to buy clothes next time, you will have to pay the original price."

"Mhm." After hearing Mira's words, Yun Mu asked curiously: "This set I'm wearing, if bought at the original price, how much would it cost?"

"Not much, about 50 Gold Frost Coins per piece," Mira said casually.

"Holy crap, that expensive!" Hearing Mira's words, Yun Mu couldn't help but let out a curse.

But then again, how could she be sure she would come again? Could it be...

"Do you remember that I have been here before?" She looked at Mira and asked.

"I will remember everyone who can come to me a second time," Mira said with a soft laugh.

"Alright, you should go; I want to read."

She picked up the book on the table that she hadn't finished reading, looked down, and opened it.

Seeing this, Yun Mu no longer disturbed the other party, turned her head, and left the Old Witch Clothing Store.

Come to think of it, why did the other party choose such a store name? Even for an Elf, whose lifespan far exceeds that of a human, Mira could probably indeed be considered an old witch, but...

Forget it.

Yun Mu shook her head and stopped thinking about this matter.

What kind of store name others choose has nothing to do with her; for the rest of the day, she should go find a place to stay for the night.

There is no need to go back to the sewer; she should go find an inn.

Tomorrow morning, she will go to the Guard Hall to get her Identity Card processed, then go to the Painting Association to see if there are any opportunities to earn money.

Once she has money, she can go rent a house...

"Damn it, why do I still have to find a way to earn money to buy a house even after coming to another world?" Yun Mu suddenly felt something was wrong and said.

Grumble~

Suddenly, her abdomen let out a sound of hunger.

"Ah, so hungry."

Yun Mu touched her stomach.

Thinking carefully, it seems she only ate a piece of rye bread and had a bottle of inferior liquor this morning.

Afterwards, she was first intercepted in the sewer by that woman with Scarlet eyes, then went to the Guard Hall to provide clues, and after coming out, she went to the bank to withdraw money and encountered that silver-haired Young Girl.

Finally, she came to this Old Witch Clothing Store to purchase a set of magical attire.

"I really did a lot of things today," she couldn't help but sigh.

PS: Houses in the Frost Kingdom are actually not as expensive as one might imagine; take Frostfall City, where Yun Mu is located, as an example.

The price per square meter is about 8 Gold Frost Coins.

It is worth mentioning that, besides the Energy Tower in the city center providing heating for the city, most buildings also have additional Heating Heaters inside.

Even during the day when the Energy Tower is not working, the interior of the houses remains as warm as spring.
