Chapter 3: The Charred Town

~7 min read 1,328 words

Evening, Frostfall City sewers.

Yun Mu followed the location in her memory, constantly changing directions within the intricate, complex passageways.

As a city with a long history, the underground of Frostfall City had been excavated into drainage routes by the ancestors of the Frost Person over seven hundred years ago.

And as the city continued to expand, the Frostfall City sewers were renovated many times in succession; now, perhaps even the official personnel do not know what its structure is actually like.

This has also led to many vagrants, Thief, bottom-tier gang members, bounty criminals, and even cultists, including Yun Mu's predecessor, hiding here.

Of course, there are also some very dangerous Monster.

The most common are Slimes wrapped in mud and acid, and Cave Rats that carry germs and will definitely cause illness if one is bitten.

Some have even encountered Fishman in the sewers!

It's just ridiculous.

However, those are only creatures found in areas with little human activity; within the safe range, there shouldn't be any problems.

Besides, the sewers are warm in winter and cool in summer; setting aside certain factors, isn't it quite comfortable to stay here?

"It should be here."

In a dead end of the sewer, Yun Mu stopped and looked around.

After confirming there was no one around, she laboriously cleared away the Stone piled on the ground, revealing the hole hidden beneath them.

This was the place where her predecessor usually lived, and it was also the safest place she had determined after searching her predecessor's memories.

Using Stone to cover the hole was, firstly, because they were cheap and could be picked up anywhere, and secondly, because it made people feel it was too much effort to clear, so naturally, no one would discover this place.

If it were replaced with wood or cloth, I'm afraid it wouldn't take a few days before someone took it away as firewood and then discovered this place.

Descending along the wooden ladder placed at the hole, Yun Mu reached out and felt around in the pitch-black 'room', then grasped a cold metal Gate valve.

Click!

As the valve was gently turned, a bright flame rose in the 'room', instantly illuminating this narrow space.

In this space that could fit about four people lying down, besides the Gas Lamp beside her, there was a huge blanket on the ground, rags rolled up to use as a pillow, and an ugly crate made of nails and wooden boards.

This was all the predecessor's belongings; the crate was made by her, so it was ugly, and inside were all the savings the predecessor had accumulated until now, a few pieces of hard-as-rock black bread, and five bottles of watered-down rye ale.

The blanket and rags were things she had scavenged, as was the Gas Lamp.

As for the gas, when the predecessor first discovered this place, this gas valve was already here, which was also the reason the predecessor was willing to find someone to repair the broken Gas Lamp.

Anyway, the gas company was wealthy and powerful, so they wouldn't notice if she secretly used a little.

The predecessor used it for so long without incident, so it couldn't be that it would fail the moment she arrived.

"Sigh, this transmigration."

Looking at the predecessor's dilapidated 'home', Yun Mu couldn't help but sigh.

Although she couldn't be called the most miserable Chuanzhezhe, she belonged to the relatively miserable type.

She sat down on the blanket, then took off her leather coat, revealing the wound on her left arm.

"Thankfully, the wound isn't deep." Looking at the few bloody holes on her fair arm, Yun Mu breathed a sigh of relief.

She took the watered-down rye ale from the crate and carefully poured it onto the wound; as for bandaging, forget it, she had no clean cloth.

"I have quite a strong ability to adapt, don't I?" Enduring the pain coming from the wound, Yun Mu lamented to herself.

She considered her mental state to be relatively normal, yet she didn't have much feeling after killing that zombie that resembled a human.

Even though the environment after transmigration was one hundred and eighty thousand times worse than before, she didn't give up on herself or suffer a mental Collapse.

Perhaps it was because the predecessor's memories influenced her?

"That's about it."

After treating the wound, Yun Mu closed her eyes tightly and summoned the Golden Finger panel again.

【Detected player logging into the game, updating player panel!】

【Panel (omitted)】

【Dungeon Exploration】

"I remember before transmigrating, I hadn't done any of the Dungeon content at all."

Looking at the Dungeon Exploration button, Yun Mu thought to herself.

Before transmigrating, she had only completed the basic framework of the game; theoretically, there was a combat system, but as for the Dungeon content, it could only be described as

the level of a newly created folder.

"However, there is no Scarlet Path in the game, and I have never even heard of the Scarlet Curse."

Thinking of this, Yun Mu decisively said: "Explore Dungeon, let me see your limits!"

【Error! Dungeon file missing!】

After Yun Mu clicked Dungeon Exploration, the first line of text appeared quickly. Upon seeing this line, her heart skipped a beat, but soon, the next line of text refreshed right after the first.

【Detected Path【Scarlet】, creating Dungeon...】

【Dungeon【Charred Town lv3 (Apprentice)】created! Enter Dungeon? Yes/No】

"Enter!"

【Please select the Path you will use in this Dungeon: Scarlet lv1】

【Scarlet lv1: Attack +1, Spell Strength +1, effect doubles when HP is below half!】

【After each victory in battle, Max HP +1.】

"A single-choice question, huh? I choose Scarlet!"

【Selection complete, entering Dungeon...】

As soon as she finished speaking, the world before Yun Mu's eyes collapsed violently. After a state of superposition that felt like being asleep and awake at the same time, Yun Mu found herself in another space.

The sky here was blood-red, and no celestial bodies could be seen, but eerily, the entire world was shrouded in a blood-red light.

She stood on a rammed-earth path, and in the distance of the path was a charred town.

Vaguely, in front of the small town, she seemed to see a human figure.

【You have entered the Dungeon 【Charred Small Town lv3 (Apprentice)】!】

Yun Mu looked around; apart from the small town in the distance, there seemed to be nothing else in the surroundings.

She tried to leave by going backward or walking to either side of the rammed-earth path, but was soon blocked by an invisible wall.

"An air wall?"

Yun Mu touched the invisible air wall in front of her with some surprise.

"Damn it."

With no other choice, she could only follow the rammed-earth path and walk toward the charred small town in the distance.

And as the distance closed, the human figure she had seen earlier gradually became clear.

【Alert!】

After she approached, two scarlet-colored characters suddenly appeared above the figure's head.

"Grass!"

After the figure turned its head, Yun Mu saw its appearance clearly and couldn't help but blurt out a curse.

That shriveled body and skin covered in scarlet spots—what else could it be but the Bloodline Living Corpse she had encountered before!?

She turned to run, but the next moment, her body automatically took out the Gray Iron Knife from her pocket and then assumed a combat stance.

The Bloodline Living Corpse did the same; it opened its mouth wide, its two arms with sharp claws hanging low in front of it.

【You have encountered an enemy—【Bloodline Living Corpse lv1 (Apprentice)】】

The game's notification sound arrived late; only then did Yun Mu recall that the game she had created

was turn-based!

PS: Hey hey hey, didn't expect that, did you!

The inspiration for the Golden Finger came from Darkest Dungeon and Honkai: Star Rail, both of which are also very fun games~
