Chapter 351: I'll Just Take a Look

~7 min read 1,223 words

"It really is lively."

At night, near one o'clock, Yun Mu, Brenna, and Lucy arrived by car at the Magic Fountain.

It was just as bustling here as it was during the day; crowds of people constantly moved back and forth between the various floors using elevators, and the snack stalls that only opened at night were especially packed with customers.

In contrast to the lively atmosphere of the surroundings, the Old Days Front production team's area looked very desolate, giving off a feeling of being out of place.

Two security guards, completely encased in armored exoskeletons, stood guard at the entrance to the production team's area, forbidding anyone from approaching.

Not in a rush to go over, Yun Mu looked around and successfully found Vivian at a snack stall.

As soon as she had arrived here, she had smelled the scent of the other person's blood.

"Good evening, Miss Yun." After they walked closer, Vivian greeted them.

"Good evening."

Yun Mu nodded, then looked at the fried noodles she was holding in her hand.

"Boss, give me a serving too." She turned her head to look at the snack stall boss and pointed at the fried noodles in Vivian's hand.

"Coming right up!"

The boss was a Bear-kin, his entire body covered in gray-black fur; his large bear paws looked very nimble, and with a few swishes of his iron spatula, he spread the noodles out evenly.

Lucy watched curiously from the side, her long golden hair shimmering along with the firelight.

The rich aroma of onions, ham, and eggs made Yun Mu, who hadn't eaten for seven hours, swallow her saliva.

It smells so good, just like being back at a snack stall on Earth.

"Here you go, customer." The Bear-kin boss put the fried noodles into a paper box and handed it to Yun Mu.

Although the boss had thick fur on his body, there appeared to be no signs of shedding; not a single foreign object could be found inside the paper box.

"Mmm, this is too delicious!" She began to promote it to Brenna and Lucy beside her: "Don't you want to try some?"

"This is my first time seeing this method of preparation; I'm a bit tempted to try it," Lucy said, feeling moved.

"I'll pass." Brenna wasn't used to eating on the street, so she shook her head to refuse. After a brief moment of silence, she said: "Let's talk about business."

"Business?" A look of confusion appeared on Vivian's face: "What business?"

"Hmm?" Yun Mu and Brenna looked at her in surprise almost simultaneously.

"... Hehehe, alright, alright, I won't tease you anymore." Seeing the two's reactions, Vivian chuckled.

She turned her head to look at a public bench not far away and suggested: "Let's go over there to talk."

"Sure." Yun Mu nodded, then looked at Lucy.

The latter was busy picking out food at the snack stall; she just waved her hand casually, signaling for Yun Mu and the others to go ahead.

Anyway, even from a distance of several hundred meters, she would still be able to hear their conversation.

Arriving at the bench, Vivian took a small object out from her bosom and placed it beside them.

"This is a Shielding Device, used to prevent people from eavesdropping," she explained to the two. After she finished speaking, she blinked her eyes: "It's just in case; even if we don't use it, it wouldn't matter."

"So..." After the group sat down on the bench, Brenna asked first: "What did you want to say by calling us here?"

"Of course it's something important, *ahem*." Vivian coughed lightly and said seriously: "Do you remember the power supply interruption accident from a few days ago?"

"I remember that it wasn't just a power interruption; Miss Yun was even attacked by an Old Days mechanical body lurking in the city, right?" she said.

Seeing the two nod, Vivian continued: "This matter is actually very strange. According to my understanding, the energy of the Magic Fountain should be very abundant."

"In history, the highest load the Magic Fountain ever reached was only eighty percent of its capacity."

"The media reported at the time that because of an attack by the Legion, the magic load became too high, and therefore power supply was stopped in some areas."

"The Legion was indeed attacking the shields of various cities at the time, but the scale was no different from usual; theoretically, it is impossible for the Magic Fountain to interrupt power supply."

"Although emergency repairs afterwards found that there were no problems with the Magic Fountain itself, and the issue was with the pipelines responsible for power supply—because they were severely aged and then encountered the Legion's attack, they malfunctioned—but!"

"This lady feels it's not that simple, so I had Talitaluosi investigate it." She crossed her arms over her chest and continued: "According to the results of Talitaluosi's investigation, the energy inside the Magic Fountain was drained in large quantities not just once when facing the Legion, but twice!"

"The reason the aging pipelines malfunctioned was because they were hit by magic surges twice in a row, and that drained energy is located directly beneath the Magic Fountain!"

"..."

Yun Mu and Brenna were silent for a moment. After a long while, Yun Mu slowly spoke: "So, does this have anything to do with the Old Days Front?"

"Of course it does." Vivian held up a finger: "That day happened to be the time the Old Days Front production team came to the Magic Fountain to install their competition devices."

"There's no mistake, those suddenly drained energies must be the work of the Joy Corporation; my intuition tells me so!"

"What kind of device would drain such a massive amount of energy?"

"Don't you want to know?" she said.

"Uh, not really..." Two black lines fell from the top of Yun Mu's head; she suddenly regretted believing Vivian's nonsense.

"Cheer up!" Seeing her expression, Vivian put her hands on her hips with some dissatisfaction: "This lady's intuition is always accurate; you have to believe me."

"Generally speaking, a device that uses such massive energy must be reported to the Association, but the Joy Corporation chose to secretly misappropriate it while the Legion was attacking; there must be something shady in there."

"Hmph, as long as we catch them in the act, we can... anyway, let's go take a look!"

"Were you just about to say something outrageous?" The corner of Yun Mu's eye twitched slightly. Should one say it's to be expected of a councilor's daughter? This person... "Isn't Talitaluosi a member of the Joy faction? Won't doing this..."

"It's just a look, nothing will happen." Vivian interrupted her: "Besides, that Joy God doesn't care about anything except fun."

"Even if that fun is His own." After a brief pause, Vivian stood up and said: "Anyway, let's start quickly."

"Talitaluosi is getting impatient."

"... Then it's just a look, okay? Just one look. If something goes wrong, don't pin the blame on me." Yun Mu was persuaded by Vivian; in truth, she was also a little curious about what the Old Days Front was up to.

Anyway, she had the Champion-level Lucy backing her up, and several gods behind her.

Taking a quick look shouldn't be a problem, right?
