Chapter 152: 2023 Summary and Thanks
After thinking for a long time, I decided to post a single chapter to summarize and give thanks for the first year of my first book.
On the evening of November 4th, while I was looking for novels to read, I don't know in which book's comment section I saw a message from a fellow reader, dated September 5th, saying he was going to write a book.
I thought he was just joking, but when I clicked on his avatar, wow, he really was writing; he had persisted for two months and already written over 300,000 words.
In that instant, I felt struck; I don't know when it started, but I began to have severe procrastination, where things I made up my mind to do, I had no impulse to do the next day, always thinking I'd do it tomorrow, that there was still time.
For example, with weight loss, in the summer I'd say it was too hot, in the winter I'd say it was too cold; there were always countless excuses, always feeling like there were countless tomorrows.
In reality, the idea of writing a book existed in January 2023; at that time, I had already downloaded the Qidian Assistant and created an account, which could be said to be the closest I ever got to writing a book, but I couldn't bring myself to start.
This fellow reader's actions were like a sudden enlightenment to me, and I instantly understood: if you think of it, you must do it; regardless of the result, at least you are already taking action.
Since starting to write on November 4th, I was writing entirely on a surge of passion, never even thinking about getting signed.
On November 10th, the day of my 35th birthday (didn't expect the author to be a middle-aged uncle, did you?), I received the message that I had officially signed and become a member of Qidian.
I am very grateful to the editor, Qinghu, for picking me out from among the many new books; I was very excited that day, at least what I wrote was still recognized by someone.
After that, I followed the advice in the author group, maintaining an update of over 4,000 words every day, unwavering, and every day I was conceiving my book; slowly, I discovered that life had become very fulfilling, although sitting for long periods is a bit tiring.
I am very grateful to Qianjin Zhizi; this reader was the first to tip me, and although I don't see him following this book now, his actions undoubtedly gave me great encouragement.
Slowly, the book's readers grew from a few a day to dozens, to hundreds, with the most being 706 in one day, which made me incredibly happy.
Because it was my first time writing a book, I didn't understand Qidian's recommendation process at all, and the beginning of the book wasn't written well, which led to the expected results not being met after the first and second rounds of recommendations, so Qidian stopped giving me recommendations.
Qinghu told me to go straight to publishing, at which point it was only 25 days since the book was posted, and the free chapter word count was less than 140,000.
Many seniors in the author group advised me to apply to the editor and wait a bit longer, otherwise, no one would read it once it was published.
But as a newbie, I didn't understand the logic behind this at all, and besides, I couldn't bring myself to ask.
Seeing the collection count at 4,000+, I felt it was worth a try; even if the results weren't good, it was at least a beginning.
Published on December 1st, due to my update timing and the fact that it was my first time writing a book, I had no idea how to operate VIP chapters and directly posted two free ones.
It wasn't until I asked others in the group that I knew how to operate it; someone suggested I delete those two chapters and re-upload them as VIP. But it had already been posted for over ten hours, so how could I be so shameless? Therefore, in order to maintain my perfect attendance, I buckled down to write and hurriedly posted two more chapters that night.
Since then, I have maintained an update of over 6,000 words almost every day, and for the whole of December, the cumulative update word count was nearly 240,000.
Here, I am very grateful to the fellow readers who have accompanied me, from the initial 4,000+ collections to the current 10,000+ collections; from the first day's subscription of 328 upon publication to today's 995, almost reaching a thousand, which is a huge encouragement for someone who just started writing; I sincerely thank every fellow reader who supports me.
I have said a lot of summaries and thanks above; next, let's talk about updates and content issues.
I am a pure newcomer, I never lie, I don't even know Wubi, my typing speed is limited, and careful readers might have noticed I have some typos, which is caused by typing Pinyin.
Last month, there were a few days where I updated over 10,000 words, which was already my limit; those days I averaged 11 hours of typing per day.
So I can only guarantee an update of 6,000-8,000 words per day, and I ask for everyone's forgiveness; of course, if I occasionally have free time or an explosion of inspiration, I will try my best to burst out a bit.
In addition, if there is the encouragement of monthly tickets or tips, I will also force myself as much as possible, and for this, I have formulated an extra update rule, which I hope everyone will supervise.
1. Tip 5,000, add one update.
2. For every 100 increase in average subscriptions, add one update.
3. If any character on the character card levels up, add one update.
The word count for extra update chapters will not be less than 2,000 words.
As for other things like Alliance Leaders, a struggling author like me doesn't dare to think about it, but if one appears, I promise to add 10 updates.
Regarding content issues, I saw many readers mention the timeline of the works; on this point, I can guarantee that regardless of the work, I will definitely check the materials; it is impossible for a work that has already been filmed, written, or sung by others to be taken out and used by the protagonist again.
However, some materials are indeed difficult to find (such as viewership ratings, which are really too chaotic); if there are any errors or omissions, please point them out, and I will definitely change them.
Including some places that readers complained about before, I have made modifications without affecting the main plot.
Therefore, I want to say that I am very serious about this book, and I have seriously read every comment and message from everyone.
Finally, thank you again to all the fellow readers who support me, thank you all, and I hope that in 2024, we will continue to walk together! (A small suggestion, some readers can change their names; occasionally when I need to cast extras, I can only pick those readers who have names.) (End of chapter)
