Leave of Absence Note: I woke up with severe foot pain; the joint of my big toe is red, swollen, and shiny, and I can barely touch the ground. It's my own fault for sneaking a snack last night—I ate a few skewers of barbecue, and my gout flared up.

Acute gout is incredibly painful; even sitting at home without moving, the pain comes in waves, and I have absolutely no focus to write.

I've already taken medicine, but it hasn't provided relief yet. If I'm still not better tomorrow, I'll have to go get an IV drip.
