Chapter 30: Morality Bounds the Upper Limit

~7 min read 1,210 words

Fang Hong gestured to Yu Xian, then walked over to the shade beneath a tree, leaning his shoulder against the trunk.

He held up his phone and said: "There's this girl I like—she's beautiful and has great conditions, but I don't know how she feels, and I'm not confident at all."

He only revealed his most genuine thoughts to his mother.

Because his mother was the only person he truly trusted!

"Nowadays, girls are few and all spoiled—you need to talk to her more, accommodate her more!" Xu Liyun said.

Their family's conditions are poor, and nowadays girls all look at conditions, so that's why his mother thinks this way.

This is also one reason why lickspittles are so common!

"I know. I'll work hard to pursue her," Fang Hong said.

"Good. Don't mess around outside, and don't do anything illegal—behave yourself, understand?" Xu Liyun warned.

"I understand. I won't do anything inappropriate," Fang Hong replied.

The mother-son conversation was plain and ordinary, with no emotional appeals or touching moments.

It was just a normal mother-son relationship.

But Fang Hong's words betrayed submission—he never contradicted her, accepting all her life lessons.

He had never shown this attitude to anyone else; with everyone else, he did as he pleased—he demanded others listen to him, and what he said was law.

Because his father died early, and he was the only son, his mother had worked outside all these years to support him.

Fang Hong might not have understood before, but since entering society, he realized how hard and difficult it was for people like them to earn money.

When he returned successful, his mother was already white-haired, lying in an ice coffin.

Not worrying his mother was the only thing he could do right now.

As for the image his mother hoped for—if Fang Hong lacked even basic self-control, he wasn't worthy of success or of leading anyone.

Because morality bounds the upper limit!

Of course, he didn't want to be a saint—just to live as the version of himself that would make his mother proud.

Fang Hong put away his phone and walked over to Yu Xian's side.

Yu Xian saw Fang Hong's serious expression and didn't dare joke—he stayed silent.

He knew the guy had family matters.

After a long while, Fang Hong pointed ahead and asked: "Is this the way back to your place?"

"Isn't this the way to your place?" Yu Xian countered.

"I don't have a home!"

"I don't have one either!"

"."

Two single men with no homes didn't even bother renting an apartment—they stayed in a small hotel with twin beds.

Mainly because it was convenient—no need to clean!

"Wash this separately—don't mix it."

In the hotel room, Fang Hong, bare-chested, tossed his freshly changed underwear to Yu Xian.

Yu Xian caught the underwear—it smelled faintly of sweat—and grumbled: "Why do I have to wash your clothes?"

"I paid for the hotel, so you wash the clothes," Fang Hong said as if it were obvious.

"I've edited your films, colored them, done the post-production—and I didn't ask for a single cent!" Yu Xian felt it was unfair.

"Why are you being so picky? We're in a critical time—shouldn't we be rowing together through this hardship?"

Fang Hong spun nonsense to avoid laundry, seeking free labor.

Yu Xian was too honest—he felt ashamed. Right now, it really wasn't the time to be so precise; they had to get through this together.

Thus, the two began their shameless cohabitation: during the day they monitored post-production, at night Fang Hong wrote scripts and drew.

Sometimes he drew the future blockbuster Animation, sometimes storyboards—really, they were nearly the same; storyboards could serve as Animation.

He also drew classic game characters.

He didn't draw them in fine detail—just quick sketches, using pencil to outline shapes.

This made them abstract, but it didn't matter—once Yu Xian filled in the colors, they became instantly clear, just like watching an actual Animation or movie.

The game characters came alive!

Yu Xian understood color well—even if Fang Hong's drawings were poor, he could help refine them.

Coloring also helped his directing—it improved his sense of space and aesthetics.

Since they had nothing else to do, polishing these works would make future use more intuitive and efficient, saving time and cycles.

Because Fang Hong couldn't constantly be there to transmit every detail from his mind to the executors—but with these, others would know exactly what to do.

Besides, these could be copyrighted; having such clear visuals completely blocked others from copying.

Text can be copied and disputed, but colored artwork plus story—such clear material? You can't deny it!

In the deep quiet of night, Fang Hong leaned against the headboard, faint light illuminating his hand as pencil lines swiftly sketched a figure.

At that moment, the room rang with a "creeak-creeak!" sound.

Fang Hong sighed, grabbed a pillow, and hurled it at Yu Xian's bed.

"Damn it, jerking off!"

Time quickly moved into August; "Love Announcement" entered the Propaganda Department phase.

At the Modu media meet-up, reporters swarmed and fans surged, holding signs of their idols and banners bearing names: Liu Tianxian, and Wang Laoer.

Liu Tianxian appeared in a stunning golden pleated skirt, her long hair coiled up.

"Wife! Husband!"

Male and female fans erupted in chaotic, mindless shouting.

The reporters were also snapping away "click-click-click" as if film rolls were free.

Liu Tianxian wore her professional smile, waving to the people on site; with her fair skin, beauty, and jewels, she had a captivating noble air.

Now she has shed her girlishness—beautiful and elegant!

Once Wang Laoer and the other actors entered, the meet-and-greet officially began.

Reporters were everywhere, shoving their microphones toward Liu Tianxian and Wang Laoer.

It's a press conference, so of course it's for the media—no host.

A reporter asked: "This is your first film collaboration. Director Wang, how would you evaluate Yifei?"

"She never complains on set—she's a very hardworking girl. And for this film, she even went on camera bare-faced. She's perfect," Wang Laoer praised.

"Haha, thank you!" Liu Tianxian let out two dry laughs beside him.

The reporter asked again: "And Yifei, what about you? How do you evaluate Laoer?"

"Through this collaboration I saw Laoer's all-around talent—he can do everything, and that's terrifying. It's hard to believe this is his first time directing, yet he already has a style—the Wang Style," Liu Tianxian rattled off without hesitation.

It was unclear whether she was talking about Fang Hong or Wang Laoer.

Either way, Wang Laoer took it well and said modestly: "No, no, this is just my first time directing. I've been learning from a lot of directors and film people."

The two of them went back and forth with mutual praise and flattery, laughing together in a way that looked quite affectionate, and the reporters even asked them point-blank if they were dating.

They neither confirmed nor denied, leaving it deliberately ambiguous for everyone to guess.

This is a publicity stunt, written into the contract—the actors have to cooperate. Once the film is released, they'll clarify and go their separate ways!

The reporter asked again: "Yifei, I heard you gave your first on-screen kiss—is that true?"

Please cast your votes, thank you!!!
