Chapter 302: A Fresh Flower Stuck in Cow Dung

~10 min read 1,888 words

The three of them went inside; Heizi wagged his tail around them, and Xu Liyun had already finished cooking.

Fang Hong had told his mother in advance that Liu Tianxian was coming today, so she'd eat at their place.

The house was warm, so Liu Tianxian took off her jacket—tall and straight in build—and went to the kitchen, where a table was already laden with dishes.

Since it was breakfast, they didn't drink; they just sat down and ate together as usual. With Liu Tianxian joining them, the meal was much more enjoyable.

Liu Tianxian held her chopsticks, still serving this person a bit of food, then that one—looking very lively: "Auntie, you've really gone all out."

"It's all simple dishes, eat more."

Xu Liyun said warmly, then added: "Oh, son, Yu Xian called me yesterday to wish me a happy new year. He said once you're back, give him a call."

"Okay," Fang Hong said.

"How's he doing over there now? Has he got a girlfriend yet?" Liu Tianxian remembered the guy; she hadn't seen him in years.

She wondered what he looked like now.

"You'll have to ask him about that," Fang Hong said.

"What's wrong with you as his buddy? The guy's been working himself to the bone for you over in the United States all these years, and you don't even bother checking in on him," Liu Tianxian scolded him.

"I think you'd better pay more attention to me. Over there he switches girlfriends every couple of days—I can't even tell which one is his girlfriend," Fang Hong said.

"Huh?! He's changed that much?" Liu Tianxian was surprised.

She still remembered how shy and bashful he used to be, and how he'd even tried to chase her.

"You'd be surprised. Every time I call him, the girlfriend next to him is a different person—and that 'girlfriend' needs quotation marks," Fang Hong said.

Liu Tianxian could hardly picture it; in her mind, Yu Xian was still that bashful, sunny boy.

Hearing this, she realized that a few years apart could really change a person.

Xu Liyun listened, then said in a very traditional tone: "You should talk to him about it. Find someone and settle down properly; once you're together, live your life well. Don't mess around out there."

"Alright!"

This was something Fang Hong actually found hard to comment on—everyone has their own fun, and that was his fun.

Saying too much would just be meddling.

They chatted about it casually; the meal was soon finished. Today Liu Tianxian would stay here and keep them company; she wasn't going back.

After eating, Fang Hong said to Liu Tianxian: "I'm going to video call Yu Xian."

"I'll come with you. I haven't seen him in ages either—let's see how he's doing."

Liu Tianxian said, then called out toward the kitchen: "Auntie, we're going upstairs."

"Okay," Xu Liyun replied.

The two went upstairs to the study, where a laptop sat on the desk. Usually when Fang Hong video-called Yu Xian, he used the laptop.

WeChat already had a video-call function by now, but it was still in the testing phase; it wouldn't be officially launched and promoted until next year.

Besides, there was no WeChat overseas, so they could only video-call through the laptop.

Liu Tianxian and Fang Hong sat close together, watching him flip open the laptop and connect the call with Yu Xian.

The time difference between the two countries was about twelve hours. It was morning for them, so over there it was roughly evening—just the start of the nightlife hours.

"Hello."

The laptop screen showed Yu Xian sitting in a chair, greeting them in a very standard American way.

His manner and speech had taken on some European-American flavor—natural after living there so long.

Liu Tianxian smiled, waved at Yu Xian: "Hi, happy new year. Do you still remember me?"

She saw that he looked much more mature now; his features had changed a bit.

"Sister Fairy, why are you here?" Yu Xian looked a little surprised.

Fang Hong said nothing, his arm around Liu Tianxian's shoulder.

"I came to Fang Hong's place for new year. He said he was going to call you, so I figured I'd take a look. So, how are you doing over there?" Liu Tianxian was chatty.

Yu Xian saw the two of them sitting close together, their manner intimate and natural, and he felt a bit out of sorts—after all, she was the goddess he'd once pursued.

Although he'd long known the two of them were together, for all these years he'd only heard Fang Hong bragging about it; he'd never once actually brought her around to show him.

He'd even suspected at one point that they'd broken up—otherwise why would there be zero real progress to show?

"I'm doing great. I've got food and drink over here, living well. How about you two?" Yu Xian said.

"We're doing great too," Liu Tianxian said.

Fang Hong still said nothing; he just planted a loud "smack" on Liu Tianxian's fair cheek.

Liu Tianxian didn't dodge, letting him do it.

Yu Xian saw it and was completely speechless. He had reason to suspect Fang Hong was absolutely doing it on purpose.

This was getting payback.

"Hey, why didn't you come back for new year?" Liu Tianxian asked again.

"There's no one at home. Going back would be pointless—might as well earn more money over here and enjoy the freedom," Yu Xian said.

"Oh, then take care of yourself out there, and stay safe. If anything comes up, you can call me too," Liu Tianxian said with concern.

She didn't ask whether he had a girlfriend or anything—already no need to ask, since she'd heard from Fang Hong that he switched women constantly.???? Besides, her position wasn't suited for lecturing people on their private life.

"Sure, come visit the United States sometime when you're free—I'll host you," Yu Xian said. He felt Liu Tianxian was really too kind; her tone was full of nothing but care.

Unlike that bastard man next to her, who was kissing her on the lips again.

Damn it! How could Liu Tianxian end up with a guy like that—fuck, it's like a fresh flower stuck in cow dung.

Fang Hong kissed Liu Tianxian's little mouth.

"Are you that bored?" Liu Tianxian was unhappy—they were in the middle of a conversation, and he kept fidgeting around.

"A little bored," Fang Hong said with a smile.

Actually, he just wanted to get payback—because Yu Xian was always bragging in front of him about which Hollywood starlet he'd bagged today.

Once when he called, he even heard their bed sounds, and felt completely unwell.

Liu Tianxian shot him a look, then turned back to the laptop and put on a smile: "Sure, when I'm free I'll come over with Fang Hong to see you."

"Seeing you two getting along so well, I feel quite gratified. Blessings to you both." Yu Xian cupped his fist.

"Thank you!" Liu Tianxian smiled gracefully.

"You have to be happy too, you can't just keep watching us be happy." Fang Hong started putting on an act again, pulling Liu Tianxian closer as the two of them snuggled up some more.

"I will."

Yu Xian couldn't stand Fang Hong's ghostly antics, turned his head and called out: "Honey."

"Hi."

A young blonde, blue-eyed beauty walked into frame; Yu Xian wrapped his arm around her slim waist, and the two kissed the left cheek, then the right cheek, taking the guest's role as host.

Fang Hong and Liu Tianxian watched, dumbfounded.

"Call him Brother, call her Sister-in-law." Yu Xian pointed at the camera.

"Brother, Sister-in-law."

The blonde beauty called out twice at the camera in English, very obedient, and quite pretty too — her features sharply defined — just that they didn't recognize her.

Fang Hong simply wasn't familiar with the young actresses of Hollywood.

"My brother doesn't understand English, speak Chinese, follow me, watch my mouth: ge, e — ge, shi, rao — sao." Yu Xian began teaching the blonde beauty to speak Chinese on the spot.

Liu Tianxian's mouth fell slightly open, she exchanged a glance with Fang Hong, and felt completely unwell.

She sort of understood why Fang Hong liked to hug and kiss her in front of Yu Xian — who could stand it, of course he'd feel unbalanced inside.

Never expected the current Yu Xian to have become like this; before it was only hearsay, no real sense of it.

"Alright, off you go!" After teaching the blonde beauty, Yu Xian patted her pert bottom, letting her leave.

"You're living quite the happy life." Fang Hong sighed.

"Same to you." Yu Xian looked at the camera.

The two shared a tacit understanding — neither would say anything about the other. But after being such close buddies for so long, they both knew it was just showing off, and didn't take it to heart.

Now to discuss business.

"The Beach has finished filming, post-production is also done. Hold this film back, don't release it yet.

First release Fifty Shades of Grey on February 13th — that's the day before Valentine's Day, the day after tomorrow.

The United States doesn't celebrate the Spring Festival, they celebrate Christmas, and Christmas has already been over for more than two months.

This film is an erotic film, the scale is quite large, very suitable for couples to watch on Valentine's Day. After watching, they can go to a hotel and try out the scenes from the movie — very nice.

If we don't release it in this slot, we'll have to wait until next year — a whole year of delay, which Fang Hong can't stand.

So it's been moved up to release on Valentine's Day — this was something Fang Hong and Universal had discussed in advance.

The other matter is the 2013 filming plan.

"Bro, please don't make me shoot any more horror films, I'm sick of them to the point of vomiting." Yu Xian complained.

"Is that so." Fang Hong thought for a moment: "How about a gay film?"

"Pfft!" Liu Tianxian couldn't help but laugh.

"Damn, can you give me something decent to act in? I'm a person with aspirations too." Yu Xian was struggling to keep a straight face.

"This one can win awards — Oscar." Fang Hong said.

"Oscar?! You're kidding me, right?" Yu Xian was astonished, a bit disbelieving.

"For real. If it doesn't win an award, say whatever you want." Fang Hong guaranteed.

"What film?" Yu Xian got serious.

"The film is called Moonlight. The script will be sent to you. When the time comes, take a look — whether you act in it yourself or give it to someone else, up to you." Fang Hong said.

This was a work adapted from a novel; he had long had Meng Jun, the board secretary of the finance department, purchase the adaptation rights to that novel.

Meng Jun ran over to the United States from time to time, so buying it was very convenient.

And this film's ability to win an Oscar wasn't because the film itself was that outstanding — its rating wasn't particularly high either, only barely passing.

It can win the award because of political correctness — who can withstand that!
